The Giants have rebuffed an overture from Cowboys coach Bill Parcells about returning to the organization as general manager, according to a high-ranking NFL executive familiar with the team's thinking. Parcells had informed the Giants through an intermediary that he would be interested in returning to the organization to replace the retiring Ernie Accorsi, according to two NFL executives and a player. The sources requested anonymity because of the private nature of the search. ... A return to the Giants would give Parcells, who grew up in Oradell and has long had a house at the Jersey Shore, a chance to end his Hall of Fame career close to home. But the Giants appear to be looking for a younger candidate who would stay in the job for the long term.

Long Term?

There is no long term anymore.

How many young coaches stay long term anymore.

They have a team who needs to make some key improvements this offseason to become a team better than this year.

They aren't rebuilding.

Parcells would be a better fit to win now IMHO...

Bill has a clause that let's him out of his contract if he is offerred a GMship elsewhere. This just validates the thoughts that he wants out of Dallas.

He wants to be GM - not coach.GMs stay long term- they have a much longer life expectancy than coaches. In any event, Parcells is a far better coach than GM (as the Giants evidently realize)

If TO returns.
Yesterday, Jerry Jones said that he expects both of them to return, he said this without hesitation. BUT, that was before this latest news came out. There is an obvious contradition somewhere because JJ said that he spoke to Bill and Bill told him that he'll be back...............someone has not been honest...........hmmm.

Really I think its the opposite I think Parcells has a great eye for talent and can build a great team but when it comes to coaching he seems to get outcoached see Saints game. His schemes are very vanilla no lineman stunts, or exotic blitzes.

I don't know. Seems consistent to me. Sunday and yesterday Parcells puts out feelers that he wants to be GM in NY. NY says no. He then tells Jones that he expects to be back in Dallas.

GM is a promotion from coach the way the NFL has it setup. It'd be just like some OC leaving to be a HC.I'm certain Jones would have barked at that and made it the issue it has never been but...for now that's how it is. I believe there's an article in the Pioli thread stating as such too.

I guess the G-men are still bitter with him. Alot of Giant fans still growl a little when his name comes up.
