Parking Ticket BS (1 Viewer)

My wife got a parking ticket ($55) in Culver City a few weeks ago but it was given by mistake. So she asks me to go to the website to dispute it and I do. I get an email saying that they will review it and send me the decision by mail...

I got the decision today and I "won"...the problem being that despite winning they still want me to pay $25 in administration costs. On top of that, it costs $3 to pay the ticket online.

:bs:

Sounds like a nonwin/nonwin situation.

Over the summer I was visiting family in NJ. I took my daughter to the Jersey Shore for first time. We went to Point Pleasant with my niece, nephew and sister in-law. We parked in a public lot near the rides and games. I purchased my parking ticket and place it on my dash. I guess when I closed my door the parking ticket fell off my dash onto my seat. I normally check to ensure the ticket is visible, but my daughter and the kids were so excited I didn't. We go to my car to leave and I see a parking ticket. I was shocked because we still had 45+ minutes before it would expired. As I looked at it closer I noticed the ticket stated "Improperly Displayed Paid Ticket". So the local parking enforcement DBAG saw the paid ticket, and still wrote me a ticket because it wasn't properly displayed.

I called the number on the back of the ticket. I spoke to some woman named Dina or Rochelle. I told her that I was probably targeted because I had out of state plates, and they assume an out of stater will not be in town long enough to go to court and fight it. I went on to say the fact I got a ticket even though the officer clearly saw I paid was nothing more than a money grab. She promptly informed me that Point Pleasant has a city ordinance that parking tickets must be properly displayed, or a ticket can be issued, even if the officer can see the parking has been paid. The fact that this is a city ordinance is pretty pathetic. The ticket was $48 bucks, which I didn't pay because I have some good friends in NJ.

keep going until you get satisfaction. No way you should have to pay anything if the ticket was given to you by mistake

The adjustments also mean that Culver City will become the most expensive municipality in the nearby area for violations such as parking over a specified time limit, parking outside lines, parking beyond 18 inches of the curb, parking the wrong way on the street and parking on public grounds.

Culver City resident Cary Anderson suggested that the money made by the city be fed back into parking enforcement rather than the general fund, so that more parking violators could be caught and deterred.
Please die.

That happened to me once when I went to court to contest a speeding ticket. The ticket was thrown out and I didn't get any points for my insurance, but the "court costs" ended up being more than the cost of the ticket :hot:

Quite a contrast with Stratford on Avon, England. A few years ago, we went to a performance at the Shakespearean Theatre, and I neglected to put the paid parking permit on the dashboard. When I got back (after a post show dinner), the parking lot was virtually deserted, there was a violation ticket on my windshield. I sighed somewhat loudly, and a man who was about 20 yards away getting into his car, said: Is anything the matter? I explained what had happened. He said: "I am a town councilman. If you will write to the office and enclose your paid permit, they will cancel the violation." I did, and they did. (And no administrative fees!)

Maybe I will move to Stratford.

One of the worst things the American people have done is allow the local and state governments to turn the police, and by extension the legal system, into tax collectors.

Similar incedent for me and the family in Wildwood. Came out from Schelengers to find a ticket that said I was parked in a loading zone. I was a decent 3 feet away from the painted part of the street. I took pictures and went home. Next day I called them and they said I could send in a "plea by mail" form. I included the pictures, Alan aerial pic from Google Earth and wrote a letter stating that I didn't feel I should be responsible for ANYTHING. A couple weeks later I received a letter in the mail stating the ticket was dismissed.

I got a ticket in the long term LAX parking lot while I was in Europe. No front license plate.I can't believe those ####ers troll the damn LAX parking lot

A recently retired Los Angles traffic cop also recently told LA Weekly that he was expected to write at least 20 parking tickets per shift, or 32 if he was on overtime. To reach the quota the officers said he would cheat the system, writing tickets before a meter was expired or when cars were just inches over a red zone.

"It’s all about the money," said Campbell. "That's the only way I can put it. It's all about the money."

Welcome to the world of your friendly government, who is here to help you.
Yup.

I still don't know why anyone who has ever dealt with any government agency could ever vote for a politician that thinks more government will fix any problem we have.

I am currently fighting with the state of Illinois for two things:

1) My car accident from almost 1 year ago to get my driving privelages restored. Long story short, after extensive and costly testing, I have three doctors stating what happened and that I am perfectly capable of driving with no limitations. The state is asking for proof of treatment on a condition that has nothing to do with the accident and does not impact my driving at all.

2) The state lost my state tax filing from a number of years back. Ok, fine, I refile. No, they need a 1099 for that year. Which they never need and they have the information showing it. But it gets better, the 1099 is from the state of Illinois. So, the state of Illinois will not finish filing my tax filing that they lost because the state needs a document that I have to get from the state.

I got a parking ticket for being too far from the curb. I think the law the says you have to be within 15" and there was no way I was over this. I should start carrying a ruler...I bet the meter maid just eye balled it.
