Passed Out and Totaled My Truck (1 Viewer)

I hope you're continuing to heal ..slow but sure.
Thank you and that pretty much nails it as how I am feeling. I do notice improvement as each day goes by. Not as much pain in movement. Being able to sit for short periods of time where as I could not sit at all on Friday. A little more range of motion.

Per the Doctors note they gave me at the ER, I am suppose to go back to work on Tuesday. I am not sure if that is overly optimistic or not. I am sure I could secure another note by going to my Doctor if need be but I am shooting to make it back Tuesday.

Went to the tow yard to get stuff out of my truck before insurance takes possession. Wow. I mean, I knew I was lucky already but seeing the truck was another hit how lucky I got off with basically no real injury and cheating death. If I can figure it out, I will try to post some pics of the truck if anyone is interested.

I'm definitely interested. Tia.

Did you find your phone?
Yup. It was in amongst other crap in the foot area of the passenger side. I did not have the ability to look there when I was stuck in the truck.

Another lesson- way too much 'stuff' in my truck. Going to try to make sure that I keep the next vehicle cleaner and not cluttered regardless if there is a compartment or not. That dang middle compartment flung open and all the stuff went all over.

Quick Update:

Feel much better now. Pain is way down and I have much more mobility. I went back to work on Wed and though a bit painful it was just enough to tolerate with the painkiller to be ok with it. Each day has got a little better. Only set back was on Saturday when the wife left me with my 11 month old son and he has a massive poo poo event. I was forced to pick him up and change him (changing him put pressure on my back as well) and by the time I got him back down in his play area, my back went into spasms. But other than that, continue on the slow march of a little less pain each day.

My agent took forever to get the claim in, just got contacted by the adjuster on Friday. Today I was contacted by a manager in the department because the agent knows we are not happy. They viewed the truck and immediately called it a total (as opposed to the process they told me would happen where if the tech thought it was a total they would haul it in to verify)- I suppose the damage if obvious. The manager even said on the phone that the damage apparently looked pretty extensive.

Now, apparently the wife is not sure she wants to buy a used Acadia/Enclave. Maybe new? Maybe buy a used truck and then buy the new Acadia/Enclave a little down the road as our original plan was.

There had to be a better way to get a few days off of work.

Glad you are feeling better, hope in a few days the pain is way down from even yesterday's post.
Yes, making good progress. I was able to pick up my son and change him without going into spasms today. Just some pain and discomfort.

So, the insurance offered me basically $19,500 for my truck. Blue book had me above $22K. Do I have options on handling this? If I do, what are they and how do I take them? I have never dealt with an insurance claim like this.

My guess is it would be hard to go by "blue book." What are similar vehicles going for in the area?

Don't want to harsh your mellow, but.... I use Liberty Mutual, not a low-cost provider like Geico or Progressive... but if they total your car, they give you book value for a car 1 year newer with 15,000 fewer miles. That probably doesn't help..

Sure. Tell them that you think the appraised value should be a lot higher than $19,500. Ask for all of the backup for how they determined it was only worth $19.5. Start there. Then once they give you that information, you'll know better how to fight them.

Neither do I, I have Allstate though that may change after this is all said and done.

I did ask for it and it was suppose to be emailed to me but I did not get it yet. They said they use some service (he told me the name but I do not remember) that then pulls comps on similar trucks in the area and then generates a value. He poo poo'ed the Blue Book as being something "banks and dealerships use to inflate numbers".... I decided to not tell him that I have been in banking for 14 years and that is a load of crap he is selling.

I guess there was not a "I am a Niacin pill that freaks you out and makes you pass out" version.

Yea I would ask again for that info. In writing. And make it clear that this is the second time you've asked for that information.

I don't know what state you are in, but most likely there are strict guidelines (timing of their response, etc) they have to follow when dealing with you. If they don't follow them, they may be liable for violating the state's insurance code.

And like I said, once you get that info, you'll know much better how to attack it.

Look at what other vehicles like yours are selling for or have sold for in your area. That usually helps with negotiations. And get your agent to go to bat for you too. That is one of the reasons you have one.

Chad - just saw this thread. Very glad you are ok!
Thanks bud!

A few more months and it will be a year. My back is still screwed up (came to work on muscle relaxer yesterday... kind of on accident.... my boss kept asking me what the matter was). STILL messing with the State on my license over this. BUT, grateful as heck that I am still alive and typing. :D
