Patrick Crayton (1 Viewer)

Patrick Crayton, surely isn't a sexy name in FF (Yes, I know, don't call you Shirley.). However, it appears Malcolm Floyd isn't going to be playing this week. San Diego is playing against Kansas City's alleged defense, who has given up (I believe) 8 passing TDs in the first 2 weeks of the season. Now I'm sure Gates will get his, as will VJax... but against this defense, could Crayton have any use, one time only? I call him a WR3 this week, you know, assuming he's activated.

No thoughts here? I know a lot of players have been injured early this year, necessitating a 2nd, and sometimes 3rd look at the WW. Gates is still feeling soreness in the foot he injured last season, Floyd is all but out... someones going to catch the ball, right?

I have Floyd as my WR5 and need a WW replacement this week. Crayton's someone I'm considering. What concerns me is he hasn't played this season and I'm not sure the Chargers need him. Last week, they lost Floyd and got nothing out of Gates and Rivers just threw to VJax all day. And that was in a game where they needed to pass a lot. This looks like a matchup which San Diego should control which could mean less passing and a heavier dose of Mathews and Tolbert on the ground. I think any starting WR in this offense has a shot but Crayton strikes me as a real boom/bust guy. Not sure he comes in with a decent game. It'll either be good or it'll suck. That has me concerned about grabbing him to replace Floyd.

I don't know. Floyd went down pretty early and Gates + McMichael only had 2 combined targets and they still didn't look Walters (their #3 WR) way. They just went VJ and their RBs. Perhaps they change this week but KC has been terrible and if they get blown out again SD might just run the ball 40 times the way Buf did. I would start a DAL WR over Crayton right now unless Crayton is named a starter and Gates is out.

You're right, Buffalo did use the ground game, but that didn't stop Fitzpatrick from throwing 4 TD passes, and then Stafford did the same last week. 8 TDs in 2 weeks... obviously they aren't going to to give up 64 TDs through the air this season, but the KC pass d's "consistency" caught my attention.

Crayton is fool's gold. His situation seems promising, but remember he started several games last year due to all the SD injuries. I fell for it & started him twice, only to get burned by Naanee, Ajirotutu, or somebody else getting the points I'd hoped for.

Crayton is strictly a possession receiver & can't run the downfield routes Floyd does. He'll be at best the 4th option behind V-Jax, Gates, and the RBs. If you start him, prepare for a 4 catches for 36 yards day.

Looking increasingly likely that neither Floyd nor Gates will be available this weekend - given that Floyd didn't practice, and Gates tried but couldn't go.

Who else is there to catch the ball? McMichael? Walters? I have no belief that Crayton will be even close to significant in 2011, but this week? Maybe...

Crayton put up some decent #s when he was healthy last year

I too am seriously considering Crayton this week. There are definitely some advantages, but also some disadvantages of taking a risk with him this week. With Malcolm Floyd likely out and Gates an unsure thing or at least iffy thing, someone will have to fill the void. That someone is either Crayton, Bryan Walters or Vincent Brown. Both Crayton and Brown were inactive for the first two games of the season. Chances are Floyd (groin) will be inactive this week, thus opening the door for one of Crayton, Brown or Bryan Walters to have an increased role. Walters has been active for the first two games this year, mainly for his PR duties, but he has caught a few passes too. Crayton's experience in the league far exceeds Walters as well as Vincent Brown and he should get the jump to the starting lineup opposite Vincent Jackson this week.

If Crayton is active (we don't even know that yet, but chances are good), he has a good chance to produce. I'd say 3-4 recs for 45-55 yards and a possible score, simply due to the favorable match up against the Chiefs depleted secondary. My guess is Floyd and Vincent Brown will be inactive and Vincent Jackson, Crayton and Bryan Walters will all be active.

He's a good, not great sleeper play this week. Let's not forget, Tolbert leads the league in catches, plus Crayton is coming off an ankle injury himself. The Chargers could steamroll the Chiefs and therefore not need to pass often. Still, it's Rivers and the Chargers offense we're talking about and Crayton will likely be on the field for 30+ snaps.

For those of us looking at mike Thomas , knox and other clutter, he has to be in the mix. Had performed when given an opp in this offense before and should have some trust from rivers.

A flier with some upside on one of the leagues best passing teams and could be their third option and best intermediary option with Gates out and vjax taking a lot of attention.

I went with Ward over Crayton as my WR5 this week to replace Floyd. I think Ward has zero upside but he's pretty safe in a PPR league and I don't want to take a chance on someone coming up small. I think Crayton has a chance but what worries me is the fact Rivers may not have to throw much and how he ignored all of the other WRs other than VJax last week when Floyd was out and Gates was taken out of the game plan. I think Crayton has some boom/bust potential. If you don't mind the chance of a bust I think he's worth a look.

I think this week, now that Gates is reported to be out, and Floyd is likely out, Crayton can be counted on for WR3 numbers, with upside. He showed last year that he still can move - heck 28 catches for 514 yard = 18.4 yards per reception... that's nothing to sneeze at. Though I heavily considered using Crayton this week, I won't be. But I don't blame anyone who is.

Sneaky play with Floyd and Gates out... I'm starting him as my 4th WR and hoping for big targets. He was looking pretty solid for a stretch last season.
