Listen. Im not gonna move into a 10 minute rant about how our team plays or wins. A 5 minute rant will do. But please do hear me out. These NE Patriots are killing teams right now like Ive never seen before, and they clearly have their reasons. Why worry exactly what they are. Their titles from the past have been 'tarnished' to a degree by certain critics, but certainly not by all. Theyve obviously decided to make a statement. And I'll defend them to the bitter end. Its completely water under the bridge. There's no need for further defense. But clearly this Patriots team we're witnessing is one of the best of all-time, if not the very best. And it will only do this team a disservice to unnessecarily fight all of the little individual battles that this team and its fans will face almost daily. But lets just step back from that, and take a general attitude of clear understanding. Ive been fighting these battles to a point often myself. Im done with it. Again, THIS TEAM NEEDS NO DEFENSE. As I said, theyre on a mission. Dont worry about all the negatives. Save your efforts for the good fight. I fully believe after today's game that we need not go to bat for these boys anymore. Theyve got it fully under control. We owe it to ourselves to focus on enjoying the ride. It is a ride we will likely never experience again in our entire sporting lifetimes. Save your energies for cheers. Not the jeers. And live in the moment. And for those we face who choose not to, lets give them a wink and a nod, and understand how lucky we truly are. The choice is each of ours. Lets represent this team to the level it deserves. With our greatest sympathies and respects to all other teams. This will be my personal approach, and I would plead with others to share a seat, but everyone's ride is their own. Enjoy the ride however you see fit.

This week all questions will be answered. Are the Patriots a product of the incredibly poor record of their opponents or is this truly a historic team.

Impressive indeed. I think the only way they lose is playing a team that can score with them (Indy) or a team that can keep their O on the sideline (like Tennessee running it 50 times). I still say, if it were me coaching the opponent, I'd tell my LBs to hit Brady after the whistle the entire first drive. GIve them 15 yards every snap; they're going to score, may as well try to rattle Brady. Failing that, it's lights out.

Shouldnt you be watching the Red Sox win the World Series?

Yeah, way to promote dirty play. Fool.

It seems every time we devise some logical plan to break them down, basically getting to Brady and hitting him 'til it hurts, they go out and dismantle another opponent. Brady put himself in harm's way a few times tonight, but still nothing. I really think Brady's guts and toughness have earned him a level of respect that makes the thought of cheap shots almost reprehensible. He's reaching an almost 'Wayne Gretzky' or 'Jordan' plateau. Good hard shots he'll see. Cheap shots...I doubt.

if they are going to be beat its going to be a team that can run it up their gut.

That will just anger the offense even more. They may put up 100 points against a team that tries that. No respect card = played.

:confused:Any fool can go do a cheap shot. I seem to recall what was expected to be an awesome Eagles team back in 1991 getting derailed because Randall Cunningham got taken out on a diving hit to his left knee, at GB IIRC. This team needs to get beat by getting punched in the mouth, not by getting stabbed in the back.

Easy there. The first Superbowl they won was against the Greatest Show on Turf. The Pats D did nothing all day but smash the Rams WRs. They didnt care if whistles blew and they gave up penalties. But they completely rattled the passing game and won. Now the roles are reversed and all Dowling is suggesting is that opposing D's do the same thing. If you're gonna dish it out when is suits you then you have to expect to be treated the same. The Pats rock. Its a competitive league and I support them playing with a killer instinct til the final whistle blows. I also support opposing Ds do what they need to do to win. And I would expect BB to do the same if he was coaching against his NE Patriots.

Really? How many late hit penalties did the Pats accumulate that day. I was there. The Pats beat up the Rams receivers from whistle to whistle. And more importantly, Willie McGinest hit Marshall Faulk on every play whether he had the ball or not. Willie got a holding penalty on one play which resulted in a defensive TD being called back. I dont believe Willie got any personal fouls in that game. I dont recall any complaints of cheap shots or late hits.

They are great. I'm wondering though how many Bellicheck defenders would become Bellicheck attackers if Brady goes down to injury when they are up by 38 in the 4th quarter.

I've been ignoring the anti-Patriot crowd all season. Frankly, the Patriots have something truly amazing going this year and they're missing it because they chosing to focus on negative things. But then again, the only thing Americans love more than the rise of a star is tearing that same star down. If it wasn't "camera gate" or 4th quarter TD passes, they'd find some other reason to hate.

You are also hearing from a very vocal minority. I hated seeing my team get dismantled today, and was very  as to why Brady was still in the game so late.

I hear ya, but its all in fates hands at this point. Brady could blow his knee out in a non-contact drill in practice, and who should we blame then. it happens all the time. If its meant to be, its meant to be.

Very true. I think the media attention to Bellicheck would be a bit different if it happend today in the 4th quarter though. I hate them for being so good, i'm jealous......and I'm looking forward to a great game next week, should be quite the shootout.

Dude, get your head out of the sand... its MORE meant "to be" now....

Empirical evidence suggests that Belichick considers any lead less than 40 points unsafe if there is meaningfull time on the clock. From a selfish, uninformed perspective, I agree with him. At 38-0 I wanted more points on the board. At 45-0, I wanted Brady out.It is helpful interpreting Belichick's actions not in terms of an emotional desire to punish others, but as borderline paranoid behavior. I have no doubt that he FEARED a comeback until 45-0.

On point. That's how you beat a bully. You walk straight up to him and bust his friggin' nose. And then you do it again. and again. The 'Skins are moving forward after this tough loss. and they didnt lose this game on defense. Its high time Joe Gibbs takes the training wheels off that O. And I have no doubts that this game is just the wake-up call they needed to realize its time to start attacking teams straight out of the gate. Theyve faced the 'measuring stick'. now, they know what they need to do.

I really don't think that the Patriots are a measuring stick for the Skins. Dallas is a measuring stick. The Patriots are playing a completely different game right now. I'm not sure if they had anything to teach Washington except how to be on the losing end of an ### beating.I've never seen anything like this before. I like Belicheck significantly less for running it up on Gibbs like that though.

The problem is I am not sure they can. The offensive line is the backbone of Gibbs's system, it has been so banged up all year. Cooley a huge threat has been in to block more and that takes away the underneath threat.

Lifetime Bears fan here, I am really warming up to the Patriots lately because of how they are being vicious. This is how I wish my team played. I love the attitude. The 1985 Bears (of course) will always be my favorite but I think we are witnessing history with this New England team. In 30 years I've never seen a better team. It makes it even better that they have an attitude. Don't feel bad for Joe Gibbs, one of the great things about football is it is still a brutal game. If you can't handle brutality than don't step on the field (or sidelines). All of the people complaining about the "poor sportsmanship" would be thrilled if their team were going off like this. Let's not ####ify the game any more, let's revel in the legal violence that the Patriots are committing against the rest of the league. Save the sportsmanship BS for the hand shaking at the end of your widdle daughter's soccer game. I'm going to really enjoy watching the Pats for the rest of the season.

Let's not ####ify the game any more, let's revel in the legal violence that the Patriots are committing against the rest of the league. Save the sportsmanship BS for the hand shaking at the end of your widdle daughter's soccer game. I'm going to really enjoy watching the Pats for the rest of the season.

They are great. I'm wondering though how many Bellicheck defenders would become Bellicheck attackers if Brady goes down to injury when they are up by 38 in the 4th quarter.
I hear ya, but its all in fates hands at this point. Brady could blow his knee out in a non-contact drill in practice, and who should we blame then. it happens all the time. If its meant to be, its meant to be.
Here's where I've got to disagree. Why give credit to Belichick and Brady for good decisions, but then be so willing to attribute an in-game injury in a blowout to fate? It's folly to claim that they're not risking the season by putting Brady in jeopardy late in blowout games. Maybe they'll get away with it, but that doesn't mean it's a good choice.

:goodposting: Any fool can go do a cheap shot. I seem to recall what was expected to be an awesome Eagles team back in 1991 getting derailed because Randall Cunningham got taken out on a diving hit to his left knee, at GB IIRC. This team needs to get beat by getting punched in the mouth, not by getting stabbed in the back.
I agree with whoever said that the Patriots aren't the measuring stick. They're just on another level right now. They're like Tiger Woods winning the 1997 Masters by 11 strokes, when Tom Kite, who finished second said, "I won the Masters - I don't know what Tiger was playing." Two years ago, they went into a 36-0 blowout @NYG after having gone 1-2; they went 1-3 after that. They needed to finish 5-0 to make the playoffs, something which they can't count on repeating, so they absoutely need to do better than that. This will test their resilience.

This 'Skins team has a major o-line injury problem. My hope is that Randy Thomas can come back in December and provide strength to that right side, because it's gone from being a strength of that offense to its most glaring weakness. I also think Gibbs has gotten too conservative, or has allowed Saunders too (but I doubt it's Saunders). Campbell's legit - they need to put it into his hands given that they can't put it into Portis' hands with the o-line the way it is. The WR's, particularly Moss, are underachieving. There's just a lot of work to be done.

Right now, they can thank their lucky stars that they're in the weaker conference because that's why they're still in the playoff hunt. In the AFC they're likely a 7-8 win team and sitting at home in January.

Lets wait until the Patriots beat the Colts to name them top 15 of all time, let alone the best. If they don't win the Super Bowl nobody will care about how they dismantled their opponents, just like the 98? Vikings.

I'm here, my brethren!

totally diggin' that game today, and look fwd to many more just like it.

I wonder if the mighty pats will be able to handle a really good physical defense, if they ever come across one.....

there isn't one post I make on this board defending the pats, or debating the pats.

you'd have to be an idiot to doubt the quality of that team --- jesus, if you watched 10 games of football in your life you should be able to recognize what new england has this year.

an all girls middle school probably would've picked that game 99% right, w/the other 1% huffing glue in the bathroom.

anyway, the point is while I might not waste any time debating, I'm more than happy to slap down any idiotic posting I happen to read on the pats, or any other subject, just like the pats swatted away that obnoxious gnat this afternoon.

Yeah, it's one thing if he's running it up on Mangini. But Gibbs? Come on, that's a scumbag move.
It's strange how some people think the concept of "sportsmanship" is BS and only has a place is a girls' soccer game. Isn't it funny that some of those little girls act more like men than the beer-soaked analysts who think they're a part of the team, when they're really just the cash cow that fuels the league? No offense, but unless you're one of 31 very wealthy families, you don't have a team. That little girl who plays soccer? She has a team. You have a hat and a jersey and a credit card bill to prove it. So pass the pretzels while you wax poetic about how "brutal" the game is that you watch on television.
