As of right now Miami is 0 - 10, Oakland 2 - 8, San Fran 2 - 8 and St. Louis 2 - 8 but St. Louis beat San Fran today so they would be 4th overall.

Keep losing San Fran. This pick is a gift since the Patriots lost there own 1st round pick.

How will they wheel and deal with that 3rd overall pick I see it only getting better and not worse how bad the 49ers are.

I believe if two teams have identical records, they coin flip for draft position. head-to-head meetings are used for playoff seedings, not draft seedings.

We were both wrong...Strength of Schedule is the 1st determining factor....

Strength of schedule for the previous season is the first tie-breaker for teams with the same winning percentage.

• Divisional and conference records are the next step in the tie-breaking procedure.

• As a last resort, a coin toss is used to determine the order of selection for teams with the same winning percentage.

That Niner win certainly did not help the Patriots 2008 pick.
In a way it did the PATS will more than likely be looking to trade down. It'll be easier to move the #7-#10 than it will be to more the #2-#5 pick.
I agree trading down will probably be the move. They'll probably deal the pick to Cincinnatifor their 2009 first. The Bengals will then go 1-15 in 2009.

1. Miami (0-13) - plays Baltimore

2. St. Louis (3-10, .53 SOS)

3. NY Jets (3-10, .52 SOS) - plays KC

4. Atlanta (3-10, .52 SOS)

5. San Francisco (4-10)

6. Baltimore (4-9, .53 SOS) - plays Miami

7. Oakland (4-9, .51 SOS)

8. Kansas City (4-9, .51 SOS) - plays the Jets

In theory, the 49ers could finish 6-10 and end up with a pick in the teens.

Really amazing that people are considering New England getting a worse pick as being "good" for New England.
 They may fall out of the McFadden race...Though I could see them taking an ILB to get a little younger. Or a CB with Samuel gone after this season (contract states they cannot franchise him again)If they aren't careful that D will get old really fast like BAL...

I just can't see the Patriots taking a RB in the first round, even McFadden. They need help on defense, and their offense this year has been perhaps the best ever, and that is without a great or even very good RB. The defense is in much greater need of help right now.

I have come to realize that New England can do no wrong. Everything lines up for them, call it whatever you want, but I would not bet against whatever player falls to them will end up being the perfect fit for their system.

Maybe the pats will screw up and take a kicker like the Raidas. or wait too long and lose there pick ala vikings.

I don't think NE would take McFadden even if they had the 1st pick overall.. Maroney is their guy, he wasn't healthy this year but they know what he can do. Even if they were in the "McFadden Race" they'd probably trade the pick down to another team that is willing to be extorted for a playmaker like him... possibly grabbing two lower but not horrible draft picks.

But on the other hand the emergence of Sammy Morris did make Maroney expendable.. It's highly unlikely but a Maroney trade maybe? Morris looked more solid then him all season even when they were both healthy.

Maybe they'll draft a kid right outta CIA school. One that's adept at covert operations and can avoid get caught videotaping. OK Pats fans don't get bent outta shape, just inserting a little humor. I'm sure the Pats aren't the only ones who've videotaped(06 Jets), they just got caught. What '08 draft pick do the Pats lose for that incident?

The Pats probably couldn't afford McFadden given the number of players they need to re-sign and their cap situation (not that I really think they would take him even if they were able to shell out that much for a RB). The Pats have explained numerous times that for the type of players they want to play LB in their scheme they would not invest an early drat pick (and they would prefer to sign or acquire proven players from other teams). The conjecture among the so called experts around here is that if they keep the pick they would take DL or OL help.
