The L Bell thread has a post where Bells suspension is possibly being g negotiated to just 1-2 games; due to him being punished twice? This makes no sense to me. The way I understand it is that the new policy has a rule about DUI and marijuana arrests. The punishments for those 2 = 3 games. If Bell gets his suspension reduced, and Brady's full 4 games is upheld, I'd have to agree with NE fans who cry foul (about this specific aspect of this situation.

Apples and oranges. Bell is being punished for the off-the-field conduct. Brady is being punished for on-the-field cheating. It isn't hard to see why the NFL would come down harder on the cheater than the guy who picked up a DUI.

Rotoworld:

Sources tell ESPN's Adam Schefter that Tom Brady and the NFL were still discussing a settlement as of Tuesday morning.
It remains highly unlikely the two sides will reach an agreement before Patriots training camp opens Thursday. Stephen A. Smith is "hearing" the four-game ban will be upheld within the next 24-48 hours, which is the no-brainer outcome given Roger Goodell's stance on the matter. Of course, none of this matters too much as Brady is widely expected to challenge the NFL in court. He will "seek an injunction that will allow him to play while his case works its way through the courts," per ESPN.

Admit you were wrong and take a negotiated reduction in how many games you miss or deny any wrongdoing and threaten to sue if you are suspended even one game. Brady would have nothing more to complain about than any criminal who refuses a plea bargain, gets found guilty and has the maximum sentence imposed.

Not sure how destroying a cell phone helps, since you can always subpoena phone records from the carrier, who will have a record of every text message. But it makes Brady look more guilty, albeit of something that I have long said is not that big a deal, but the coverup is worst than the crime, and that is what we are seeing again.

I was willing to give Brady benefit of the doubt, and I thought he was getting screwed in this deal. However, destroying your phone, which you know they are asking about, is not the action of an innocent man.

It's ironic that destroying the cell phone was not part of the Wells report. Had Brady taken his lumps and moved on, this would have never been disclosed and his reputation would be intact. Now, he is forever unclean.

Even if the suspension is ultimately tossed by the court, I think he has done more harm to his own reputation that Goodell could have ever done.

FOREVER UNCLEAN!

NFL is going to get destroyed in court and they know it. Tarnishing Brady now is their last chip to play in an attempt to win the PR battle ahead of losing yet again in court.

Doesn't the destruction of his cell phone ultimately hurt his chances during the appeals process? If your whole argument is against the process and the unnatural punishment being doled out, haven't you completely destroyed your argument by essentially giving the NFL another feather in their cap? You didn't cooperate with the investigation and while not cooperating, you destroyed potential evidence. We are no longer comparing apples to apples (ala Brett Favre). You've created a whole new precedence that needs to be set.

If I am a multimillionaire/living legend celebrity...I am not handing my cell phone over to anyone unless compelled by a court of law. And I am not a Pats fan or Brady fanboy.

do you destroy your phone, or do you put it in your vault?

If he were clean, he could have presented his phone at his hearing, and again at the impending trial. Too bad he's forever unclean.

Habit or not, if Brady destroyed the phone with awareness of the pending request to review its contents, that's a problem.

Can someone find out something about the "habit" bit? Not seeing anything...
His argument for destruction is that he does it every 4 months. Notwithstanding the fact he still has his phone from the 4 month period before the destroyed one...
:excited: Maybe Gisele is the one that needs to subpoena the records.

I suppose; but this isn't a criminal matter and the PSI rule (IMO) didn't give any significant advantage. The fact remains that Brady is still refusing to admit wrong doing, and that seems to be the difference. I'm just looking at each situation where the NFL has a rule in place but don't seem to be applying the same standard. Although, it's possible they offered the same reduction, but Brady refused.

Just saw that Brady destroyed his cell rather than share its contents. What possible explanation can there be for that?

I can't believe people aren't more upset at the idea of a "frivolous lawsuit" of this nature. Stop clogging up our legal system Brady! Take your lumps like a man!

if I were a celebrity and had his kind of money, I would absolutely destroy my old phone when I was done with it.
This is a no-brainer. If you have the money he does and the wife he does, believe me...NOBODY is going to get within ten feet of your phone cause you know what kinda stuff is on that thing. TMZ would have ALL kinds of pics by tomorrow.

Think about it, none of us are Tom Brady, probably don't have his wealth or a wife and lifestyle like he does and still, how many of us would want to let a stranger look through our phone all they want?
