TE Brian Jones joins Patriots
By Os Davis on August 13, 2007 11:50 AM
The New England Patriots have performed a swap at the bottom of the depth chart at tight end, signing Brian Jones and releasing Matt Kranchick.
Commentary: The Belichick brain trust hopes to have found yet another diamond in the rough in Jones, who was a decent blocking TE with the Jacksonville Jaguars in his first two NFL seasons before spending the 2006 season on injured reserve. Jones is a bit of an insurance policy, it seems, looking up the depth chart as he currently is at Ben Watson, Kyle Brady and Marcellus Rivers.
Fantasy Football Impact: Almost zero impact. Even if he gets playing time and succeeds brilliantly, Jones is just not much of a stat guy: In almost twenty-nine games played, he's managed nine receptions.
