Patriots @ Falcons - Preseason Game (1 Viewer)

Very Impressed by Marooney.

First time seeing him run in pads - much bigger than I thought -

Runs upright and style reminds me of Steven Jackson. Big, Shifty, Has good speed - May have more shifty moves in his style than Jackson, but smoother and much more natural in the execution of them.

I really like his inside moves. I want to see more of this kid, but between the tackles he reminds me a little of Emmitt Smith (small moves, but enough to make people just miss).

To me the debate over who was a better value - Marooney or Addai - is over. Marooney looks ready now.

I didn't see any missed blocks - they are leaving him in there too. Has anyone seen any mistakes by Marooney in the passing game?
Please stop saying Marooney. TIA.

:lmao: Ooops. Tryiing to type quick and not thinking. Thanks - :bag: Info is accurate though - :) .... Except that....

Laurence Maroney looked like he was running downhill during the first half. Of course, the ATL run defense wasn't very good last year (ranked 26th) and it doesn't appear that situation has been rectified (thus far) in 2006.

"Welcome to the New York Jets, Mr. Duckett. Go ahead and use Blaylock's old locker. We're happy to have you. Oh, and Mr. Norwood has a message for you. It reads 'No hard feelings TJ. You've been great.'"

Koenen = :moneybag: Punts, kickoffs, fieldgoals... Get me on that bandwagon.
He'll be a nice last pick.....
:yes:How far would that kick have been good from? 60? :eek:J
Easily, but did you see how low the kick came off? A guy from NE ran right by it and the ball had to be neck high when he did. Nice to see the leg and accuacy though (in a dome.....).Norwood just scored - he is special in open space and has nice low center when he runs. Bound to take some reps from Dunn. Looking more like RBBC in Hotlanta -

Announcer just offered

"Norwood is going to make it very hard for the coaching staff to keep him off the field this season"

looked good on the screen, juked a defender and outran a tackle

Man they gotta give Branch his money. There were two or three passes when the starters were in that I thought Caldwell and others should have had.

Enberg's an idiot. He also just said people just keep getting better and better on Rock Star Super Nova, and earlier when he threw to Jim Nance and the golf update I honestly thought Enberg was having a stroke...beautiful live TV moment

Doubt he takes any meaningful carries from Dunn this year. First and foremost he has to be able to protect Vick on passing downs, and I'm not sure the coaching staff believes he can do that. He's definitely someone to watch for though, and should have a couple highlight reel plays during the year.

I thought Caldwell had a shot on a short slant into the endzone early....couldn't tell if he alligator armed it or not though - bad angle.

I haven't seen enough of him in pass protection to say that definetevely. What I will say is Warrick Dunn isn't the best blocker out there in the first place (he's an outlet most of the time from what I've seen). There are reasons why MV runs alot. I'm not saying, but I'm just saying. Its a long, new season. Norwood has talent and size. Maybe not more of a RBBC, but certainly Norwood is bound to become some kind of "role" player with nice upside.

One More Note

- Falcon Defense Looked Basically Good - fast to the ball. B+

- NE defense looked thin, a bit shaky. C

I could have told you Maroney would look awesome.

I'm on double deck in my draft. I had Maroney preselected all day, but the guy on the clock is now 23 hours into his pick and will time out around midnite.

Just watch, one of the guys ahead of me will grab him now.

Actually, if he times out, there's just one guy (with a preselection IN) between me and maroney...

Please keep us posted.
Its probably not TOO big of a deal...its mostly that its a dynasty-type league, and I don't really have a stud RB. I got Kevin Jones, Julius Jones, and Warrick Dunn. Maroney is a guy that I guess could be my stud RB, but I wouldnt be taking him for 06 really, anyway. I might protect him next year if things go well.

Hmm, the one guy ahead of me after this guy times out has in his RB stable:

Shaun Alexander

Clinton Portis

Reuben Droughns

Joseph Addai

I doubt he pre-selected an RB...

Despite being a Pats fan, I liked the poise and leadership shown by Shockley on the game winning drive. I was also extremely impressed by Koenen. That 50 yard FG looked like he could've banked it from 55-57 yards easy.

Michael Jenkins looked good, Roddy White didn't. I may have to recant my statement, that White, not Jenkins is the Falcons number 1 option this year. But i'll wait till after pre-season week three before I say anything final.

Although I'm a Maroney fan, everyone in here should temper expectations. Atlanta was ranked 26th overall in run defense last year, but they were tied DEAD LAST for yards given up per attempt. They had about 20% fewer rushing attempts against them than the other teams bringing up the rear so they likely would of been dead last had the teams playing against them run the ball more.

I thought Cassel was more of an up than a down...maybe I was not expecting as much out of him. Reiss was right on with the rest I think.

From boston.com Ups & downs

Up

Corey Dillon/Laurence Maroney -- Together they rush for 93 yards on 14 carries, both bringing a different style when they have the ball. Credit to the first-string offensive line as well.

Patrick Cobbs --Running back makes three catches for 80 yards and a touchdown, and adds five rushes for 25 yards.

Garrett Mills -- Rookie leads the team with five catches, totaling 75 receiving yards.

Jeremy Mincey/Pierre Woods -- Rookie outside linebackers looked like they belonged more often than not.

Down

Matt Cassel -- The numbers looked OK -- 13-of-26 for 229 yards and 1 touchdown -- but Cassel himself said he wasn't consistently sharp enough.

Don Davis -- Leading tackler on special teams in 2005 had a tough start at inside linebacker.

Brandon Gorin -- Playing left tackle against John Abraham, he is beaten for a strip sack of Matt Cassel and the Falcons score on the next play.

Freddie Roach -- Inside linebacker doesn't record a defensive tackle, although he did have two on special teams.

I also saw this, figured it was noteworthy.

Tebucky Jones, was injured in Friday night's game. Jones was seen in the locker room after the game with a wrap around his right thumb and wrist. The Patriots announced that they have re-signed rookie defensive back Gemara Williams. Was the injury more serious than let on?

I think the void of Pat WRs as been omitted by many. If Branch continues to hold out, I see the Pats as a team running the ball a ton.

I personally think Schaub should start over Vick. Jenkins had a nice catch but if Vick was in there that would have not been thrown. :football:
 Totally agree. Shaub is better at QB than Vick. Vick obviously can scramble better than any QB in the game though. Mora has to stick with herpes Vick.
