We must live in 2 separate worlds?! An average fan is a guy who maybe has a family and wants to take said family to a game. His kids love the team, but he isn't willing to or can't afford season tickets or mini-packages.So, he says, "come on loving family, I just bought 4 tickets on StubChub.us for double face value, but it is a one-time per year occasion.Official agreement, in exchange for money? Now, THIS is a plan where the clubs are trying to make money. I don't disagree with them trying to get a cut. I just dont' feel that joe average fan want's to pay a price of a 6 game package for one game. Call me crazy, but that's not average fan there. Average fan is on the season ticket list.StubHub recently signed a deal with MLB. This is from a Rockies article in the Denver Post:Who are these guys? Major League Baseball? The Patriots used to buy tickets off of EBay a few years back and whoevers tickets showed up they would cancel the season ticket holder. But despite the high prices, Pate said StubHub gives average fans a fair way to get into the games and avoid possibly unscrupulous on-street scalpers. Plus, he said, if fans find the current prices too high, they will come down.
Matthew Gould, vice president of corporate communications for MLB.com, agrees. Starting next year, StubHub will become the official secondary marketplace for MLB.com, the online arm of Major League Baseball. The websites of participating teams will refer fans wanting to resell their tickets to StubHub.
"Both us and StubHub believe in a free and open marketplace where the market will dictate the pricing," Gould said. "... With only a certain amount of tickets available to such a marquee event, it gives (fans) another opportunity to participate in the event and go to the game."
That is the average fan to me.
