Pats ask for protection from... (1 Viewer)

This is great stuff. Who says the Pats don't have a sense of humor?

The New England Patriots have formally asked the NFL to ensure the safety of Patriots employees when the team hosts the Indianapolis Colts and their explosive president at Gillette Stadium on Sunday night, Nov. 5.

The move, an evident tweaking of the Colts, comes after Colts President Bill Polian apologized to a Jets employee earlier this month for shoving him before the Colts-Jets game at Giants Stadium on Oct. 1.

The Colts complain about the field in New England so the Pats "retaliate" and raise this issue. Gamesmanship that means verry little in the end. Judging by the number of players these two teams list on their injury reports each believe in every perceived edge they can find.

It's all a bunch of bs imo.

Good thing the latest NFL expansion moved the Colts out of the AFC East. Imagine if these two teams still played twice a year. :argue:

HILARIOUS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Great jab at a team that historically cannot beat the Patriots...............but instead of trying to improve/devise a way to counteract the Patriots..........attempts to change some rule every year to nullify a perceived advantage.

Attn Bill Polian: The reason the Colts lose to the Patriots every year is defense! ......................but when you invest 70% of the salary cap in overpaying your WR's/QB it's not possible to have one!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ah yes, instead of taking time to find a legitimate WR, they are doing crap like this!

They are the new circus in town.

Just to be clear- Did you just call the Patriot Organization a circus?

The last time I saw these two teams play, the Patriots were getting blown out at home.

Very true. The colts are a good football team and Polian is a very good GM. I don't think this type of jabbing back and forth reflects badly on either team, it more just good natured fun. Like the Clinton people breaking all the "W"s on the White House keyboards before Bush took over.

Good point on the first part but you're wrong on the 2d. They are spending a LOT on D. Just not for players that earn it. friggin Polian

I think it's pathetic, cowardly and outside the game. Is everything fair now? Perhaps the Colts should retaliate by assassinating assistant coaches or something.

You're referring to a professional sports general manager and member of the NFL Competition Committee physically assaulting a member of the Jets organization in a hallway, correct?

And that game meant...?
I was at that game...11/7/05...first NFL game ever for my fiance...it was ugly...What did it mean?...a slip to 4-4 before finally heating up down the stretch?...I guess not much, but it was an ugly loss...
Did they hand out any trophies after the game?
 Did they hand out trophies after the 4 recent games the Patriots won over the Colts?

what trophies did they give the Pats after beating the Colts? Hmmm..PS: I'm actually a Pats fan. I just think we shouldn't be such arrogant little s***ts all the time :)But back to the original topic...I think this is all in jest and I don't know if I see Pollian minding that muchAre the Pats actually going to have to change their turf? I missed that bit of news.

Not trying to be arrogant. Just don't like it when fans of the Greatest Team to Win Nothing talk smack to us...

AMEN BROTHER! :football:

Live in the now Pats homers... The era is over. Just as it is for the Cowboys, Niners and Raiders of way back when.

You had your run, step aside.

Polian does really get into the game though. I've seen him in the press box at the RCA Dome throwing chairs and screaming about something he didn't like. From what I heard it's pretty common for him to come unglued.

Quite amusing really.

Keep up with the no respect. It's our calling card.
The Jets?
No. Patriots.
I think we're all confused by the avatar now.As a Jets fan I say go Pats! Polian should wear a shick collar so he doesn't try to kill your employees...... :excited:

At least Doug Flutie retired so we don't have to worry about Polian calling for his legs to be broken. :lmao:

But another question is why would the NFL try so hard to cover this up? If this was a player he'd likely be fined(or even suspended) and it would be all over the news and maybe the same for a coach. Are Polian's relationships with high brass NFL people giving him some special treatment? He gets off easy and they go out of their way to cover it up. Double-standard? This an NFLPA issue?

Colts fans don't come on here talking smack. The Pats try to make a mockery of the league by the disgraceful condition of their field, their hiding every injury from the injury report, and now something stupid like this.

They are acting petty in all cases. "Oh, but it gives them an advantage..." blah blah blah.

Win with dignity, earn respect.

I think it is safe to say that the general sentiment on these boards is that Colts fans pretty much keep their smack talk in check.

Now for the Pats fans....

Isn't the AFC Championship trophy a trophy?Bottom line, Polian has demonstrated he's a jerk and has gone out of his way to whine about a team he usually can't beat on the field. So the Pats tweaking him back is kind of petty, but also pretty funny.

Which board are you referring to? Because on the football guys message board they most certainly do.

I love Pats fans. Their team won 3 superbowls in recent history and they still have this chip on their shoulder when it comes to the Colts or Manning. I love it! *cackles maniacally*

I agree that some Colts fans on here are pretty humble. However, the Colts have listed 21 players as questionable, coming out of their bye week no less. You might want to find the strike-through button on this one.

Belichick was asked about a report on NBCsports.com that the Patriots have spoken with the NFL about protecting their employees when Colts president Bill Polian comes to town on Nov. 5. Belichick smiled, then said spokesman Stacey James would handle that line of questioning. The NBCsports.com report indicated that the Patriots were likely tweaking the Colts, as Polian was believed to have spoken with the league about the condition of the Gillette Stadium playing field. Polian reportedly had a run-in with a Jets employee at a game in New York on Oct. 1.
From Boston.com.Also:
The issue of the Patriots’ security request to the league on Bill Polian was brought up, and Belichick said he’d rather direct questions to head-of-PR Stacey James. But check this out: When the 1990s Bills came up, Belichick was asked if the four-time AFC Champions were the best team he’d seen not to win a Super Bowl. The coach scuffled a bit before emphasizing that three of the four Bowls they lost “weren’t real competitive.” The GM of those Buffalo teams? You got it. Polian.
:lmao: GB Bill Belichick.

yeah from what I understand neither team even bothered to prepare for that game. Each team started back ups and the rumor that Manning and Brady were going to switch teams at half was probably true. That's why Tom was so grouchy at the end of the game. He wanted to run the Colts no huddle. It was a completely meaningless game.

All we need now is for someone to insult the Steelers and Bears (or their fans), and this will become the best thread ever!

It's ovah when we say it's ovah. :blackdot: They said the same thing after the Pats failedto make the playoffs the year after beating the Rams in 2001.

Yeah, pretty much how you want your GM reacting to situations.Polian is a fool. When he's not crying about NE pushing his guys around, he's pushing employees of other franchises around. My guess......that Jets employee was a 19 year old kid weighing about a buck twenty. Polian is such a tough guy.
