Sounds like he belongs...I don't know... here.Does this mean he will finally fall off the media bandwagon? I kind of hope so. Ocho can't be trusted. Sad, but true. And it'll only get worse if Ocho finds a way to manipulate the public via social media like a puppet dangling from strings. And, more important, he is careless with this data, makes all sorts of causal interpretations of things without any real justification, seems to show a sort of pride in his own biases, gets into all sorts of uninformed speculation, and that's just the short list.
Bucky BrooksWith his best days behind him, Ochocinco will have trouble finding work
I don't think Ochocinco will quickly land with a new team. There are several reasons why, but here are the main three:
1) Very few teams are interested in distractions and sideshows. Despite being on his best behavior for Bill Belichick, there is still a concern that he will turn back to his attention-craving persona of the past.
2) He has lost his explosiveness. That is the trait that made him so dangerous during his productive years in Cincinnati. He was never a technician as a route runner.
3) It wasn't a secret that Ochocinco struggled with the playbook in New England. That is going to turn off a lot of teams that are looking for a veteran to work with their younger receivers.
Charley CasserlyOcho's inability to learn Patriots' offense will turn teams off
Chad Ochocinco will have a tough time finding an immediate suitor on the open market. The buzz coming out of New England regarding his inability to master the offense will hurt his chances. (As will the dismal production from 2011.)
Ochocinco will eventually get another opportunity, but he will have to prove his worth in workouts before signing with a team.
Chad ReuterOchocinco's NFL days could very well be over
I would not be surprised if it was over. Ochocinco's physical skills have diminished, and he is not a disciplined enough route runner to overcome this decline. Also, when you sign a veteran receiver at the end of his career, you want him to be a leader. Chad is not a leader. He is not a starter and can't help on special teams.
I think this is it for Ochocinco. I would not sign him.
Gregg RosenthalOcho might have to wait until training-camp injuries create a void
Releasing Ochocinco now might give him a shot at latching on with a new team, but it might not be until training-camp injuries shorten a team's depth chart.
A 34-year-old receiver who could not make a significant impact on a wideout-bereft New England squad last year can't be expected to become more than a complementary piece.
Ochocinco won't struggle to find a new team
Ochocinco won't necessarily be a difference-maker anymore, but he shouldn't struggle to find work. Terrell Owens is a bigger malcontent. The Boston Globe reported that Ochocinco looked great physically this offseason. He looked "very fast" and was in shape. He just couldn't figure out the Patriots' offense.
I don't think Ochocinco is a quality starter anymore. There's no guarantee he'll even make the team that he joins. But he's going to get another chance for a team like the Jaguars, Dolphins, or Cowboys. The 49ers reportedly pursued Ochocinco last year before his trade to the Patriots, but it's hard to imagine them trying to fit him in with Randy Moss and Mario Manningham. The Raiders also reportedly had interest, but that was likely because of former head coach Hue Jackson. Now Jackson is in Cincinnati, and there's no way Marvin Lewis will want Ochocinco back.
Chad Ochocinco is not Terrell Owens. He's not a malcontent at the end of his rope. Ochocinco was also not a system fit in New England, so the Patriots made the smart move by releasing him on Thursday.
That doesn't mean Ochocinco's career is over. We'd be very surprised if he doesn't get an opportunity, and he may not have to wait long for a job.

Some candidates come to mind as possibilities:
Jacksonville: They are very thin at wide receiver. Ochocinco's old coordinator Bob Bratkowkski runs the offense there, so it shouldn't be hard to pick up the scheme. The Jaguars also may see him as a way to sell tickets. What better mentor could Justin Blackmon have? Hmmm ...
Miami: We aren't just listing them because Ochocinco lives in the area and the Dolphins are about to be on a reality show, although that makes it more fun. The Dolphins' top receivers are Davone Bess and Brian Hartline. It's a team that Ochocinco could potentially improve. Once again, it's a team that is looking for more attention.
Dallas: The Cowboys need a third receiver and Jerry Jones is not afraid to take chances. Do we even need to say they are looking for attention?
St. Louis: Because Jeff Fisher is just crazy enough to do it. And because eight receivers is not enough.
Okay, we're stretching it with the Rams. It's hard to see many fits after those four teams. Ochocinco, however, is usually good for a surprise.
I would suggest finding 1 other owner suffering from this same delusion and trade him for whatever you can get.I'm expecting value on a different team. Happy w/ this as an 85 owner.
The general consensus from scouts and general managers around football to me is this: Chad Ochocinco is no Terrell Owens. And that's a good thing.
The belief is this: Owens won't get an NFL job, not just because he behaves like a petulant child and has burned so many bridges his name should be Napalm Owens. Also because the feeling is Owens doesn't have the ability to make him worth the risk.
Ochocinco, some personnel people believe, is different. I can tell you that within the past few hours some teams have again whipped out the Patriots film on Ochocinco. What they are seeing, they think, is a guy who still has physical ability but was lost in the Patriots' sometimes complicated system. They believe he can still be an effective, though not great, player at the position.
I disagree. I tend to think Ochocinco is done. The few times he was in the New England lineup, he looked extremely sluggish. He didn't just look like he lost a step. He ran routes like he fell down a few. At times, it was shocking to see Ochocinco as a possession receiver. But that's what he is now.
The name that keeps coming up as a suitor is Jacksonville. That's the odds-on favorite, at least according to people around the league. I don't see that either.
The other is St. Louis. That's where I think he ends up. I also wouldn't rule out San Francisco.
One GM told me this is the order the Ochocinco "sweepstakes" should be in: Carolina, Dallas and Buffalo. That's it, the Gm said, those three. In that order. No others.
In actuality, who knows. He'll end up in a camp somewhere because he's almost no risk and a team might get lucky.
But I think it's over for Chad Ochocinco.
I hope Late was being sarcastic.I would suggest finding 1 other owner suffering from this same delusion and trade him for whatever you can get.I'm expecting value on a different team. Happy w/ this as an 85 owner.
I didn't realize there were any 85 owners left out there.I'm expecting value on a different team. Happy w/ this as an 85 owner.
this. what kind of value are you expecting... he's tweeting about being able to take his kids to school now and eating at waffle house. i wouldn't be surprised if he's thinking retirement.I didn't realize there were any 85 owners left out there.I'm expecting value on a different team. Happy w/ this as an 85 owner.
he really digs that waffle house --- one time he was tryin' to get everybody in his neighborhood over there.chad could knock on my door anytime and I'd go have waffles with him.
...and he's an optimistic 85 owner too.I didn't realize there were any 85 owners left out there.I'm expecting value on a different team. Happy w/ this as an 85 owner.
We can already cross one name off of Chad Ochocinco's possible wish list for his next team. Rich Cimini of ESPNNewYork.com noted Thursday, citing a source, that the New York Jets "have no interest" in the aging receiver.
The Jets reportedly are "comfortable" with their current group, and they like the youth of the position. Reading between the lines, that could indicate the Jets are also not interested in a reunion with Braylon Edwards.
It's no surprise that New York doesn't want Ochocinco after successfully taking him out of two games last year. You can also cross off other teams like the Atlanta Falcons that went out of their way to debunk reports of interest in Ochocinco last year.
We don't think Ocho will have to become a full-time reality show star yet, though. At least one team should give him a shot. (Even if some smart folks around NFL.com disagree.)
Are you suggesting that he's a HOFer?Do we finally get to fill in the blanks on the "Future H.O.F. 20??"?
"The Patriots would literally tell him to run a route a certain way, and a minute later he would run it the other way," wrote the Globe's Greg Bedard. "It happened all the time." During recent OTAs, he also struggled to recognize zone versus man coverage.
It sounds like Ocho was able to freelance and combined his athleticism with a growing rapport with Carson Palmer that made him very successful in Cincinnati. If his athleticism is toast, it doesn't sound like he's intelligent enough to digest a playbook and follow the routes exact to where he can be relied upon by either the QB or the OC.The second is an observation from Shalise Manza-Young of The Boston Globe. She described an OTA last month where The Ocho bolted offsides and then had to be told where to line up by another player.Sound familiar? (So don't look for Jacksonville and former Bengals offensive coordinator Bob Bratkowski on the list of possibles for The Ocho.)And the third is this observation by the guy that used to tell Ochocinco where to line up here, T.J. Houshmandzadeh, as he went into free agency back in March:"If I went with Tom Brady and didn't produce, I'd hang it up," Houshmandzadeh said. "Are you kidding me? Tom Brady? If you go with a Peyton Manning or a Drew Brees, or an Eli Manning, or Aaron Rodgers, and you don't produce?"
At this point, we don't have much more than hints and conjecture about Chad Ochocinco's future.
That's not going to stop us from starting a Stock Watch for him. Let's start with the bad news.
Stock Down
1. Dallas Cowboys: A Dallas scout watched Ochocinco according to the Sports XChange. He did not come away impressed.
2. New York Jets: It has been confirmed the Jets have no interest.
3. Baltimore Ravens: Mentioned as a possibility by ESPN, the Ravens have already dismissed Ochocinco as a possibility.
4. Cincinnati Bengals: The good news is that new Bengals assistant Hue Jackson loves Ochocinco. The bad news is that coach Marvin Lewis would never let him near his team.
5. San Francisco 49ers: With Randy Moss and Mario Manningham signed this offseason, there isn't room for Ochocinco despite the fact that the 49ers reportedly showed interest last year.
6. Oakland Raiders: The Raiders showed interest in Ochocinco when Jackson was there, but he doesn't seem like the type of guy general manager Reggie McKenzie would want.
Stock Up
1. Ochocinco's Twitter account: If nothing else, we have found a story that OCNN should be able to break. The Jaguars, Bills and Dolphins make sense for Ochocinco on paper, but nothing has been confirmed just yet.
2. Canadian Football League: Ochocinco north of the border. We could totally see this happening.

Chad Ochocinco is looking for a new home, but NFL teams aren't breaking down the door for a 34-year-old wideout who appeared lost in New England’s offense last season.
Ochocinco's on-field confusion with the Patriots is well documented.
Greg A. Bedard of The Boston Globe spoke to multiple sources over the course of last season who claimed Ochocinco just didn't get it. Coaches would instruct Ochocinco on how to run a route, only to have him forget minutes later.
Patriots receivers coach Chad O'Shea broke it down for Bedard at the Super Bowl:
"At times, there are four decisions that a receiver needs to make after the snap the way our offense is," O'Shea said. "That's one of the advantages of our offense, that we give players a lot of flexibility within the system to take what the defense gives us. And that’s definitely something that's unique about our offense."
Ochocinco was hampered by last year's lockout and forced to absorb former coordinator Bill O'Brien's system on the fly. (Let's not forget, he was paid $5.75 million to do so.) He made strides late in the year, but with Josh McDaniels taking over for O'Brien, Ochocinco was behind the curve again this offseason.
This is not the Cincinnati Bengals. Much is asked of Patriots wideouts, both on the field and in weekly preparation for the opponent. One week, you're at the center of the game plan; the next you're a decoy. We've seen New England bring back Deion Branch and Jabar Gaffney for exactly this reason. They've proven they can roll with the system and Tom Brady feels comfortable with them. Ochocinco never developed that connection with his quarterback.
Even with Ochocinco's reduced salary for 2012, this highly publicized experiment had run its course.
I think he's poking fun at one of Ocho's touchdown celebrations. ETA: if I'm filling the blanks it would be "Future H.O.F. 20Never"'David Yudkin said:Are you suggesting that he's a HOFer?'PatsFanCT said:Do we finally get to fill in the blanks on the "Future H.O.F. 20??"?
After the New England Patriots released Chad Ochocinco on Thursday, we couldn't help but ponder if the veteran wideout had reached the end of the line.
The league has gone silent, for now. We haven't heard of a team chasing after Ochocinco, but if he has his way, the Miami Dolphins will pick up the phone.
CBSSports.com reported Saturday that "if his prayers were to be answered," Ochocinco would continue his career with the Dolphins, according to sources in contact with the receiver.
Ochocinco hinted Friday that he's being courted (depending on how you interpret one of his 37,000-plus tweets). Inside this newsroom, there's rich debate about what Ochocinco offers an NFL offense at this stage in the game. His time in New England stained his reputation as a player unable to grasp the complexities of the Patriots' attack. Not a résumé builder.
As CBSSports.com points out, Ochocinco is a South Florida native and the move might make sense to Dolphins owner Stephen Ross, who seems hellbent on turning the team into a media darling.
It wouldn't hurt the upcoming ratings of "Hard Knocks," either, handing HBO a juicy plotline to zero in on.
As for Ochocinco, we found him Saturday nestled up to an old friend (as everything floats steadily into the surreal):
Chad Ochocinco
@ochocinco
Sliding on the field with @terrellowens for a quick 2 hour workout session...
He can play FIFA all he wants now. What a waste of a once promising career.
This is correct. As is your prediction.I think he's poking fun at one of Ocho's touchdown celebrations. ETA: if I'm filling the blanks it would be "Future H.O.F. 20Never"Are you suggesting that he's a HOFer?Do we finally get to fill in the blanks on the "Future H.O.F. 20??"?
We can stop wondering when Chad Ochocinco is going to work out for the Miami Dolphins. It already happened.
Dolphins coach Joe Philbin confirmed during a news conference Monday that the team "recently" worked out the former Cincinnati Bengals and New England Patriots receiver.
"We're going to do our homework. We're going to investigate," Philbin said.
Reggie Bush told NFL Network in an interview for "Total Access" on that will air Monday evening that he would love to have Ochocinco as a teammate.
"If we are able to get him on our team, I feel like he can bring a lot of wisdom and knowledge from a veteran standpoint. So, if we can get him, we’d love to have him. If not, then we’re just going to have to move on without him," Bush said. "I think he has a lot left in the tank. If we can get him on our team, I think that would be great for us."
We're not sure yet whether Ochocinco will get his chance. Philbin went on to credit general manager Jeff Ireland and his staff for doing a good job evaluating all players before saying that they're doing their "due diligence and investigating things."
Translation: We work out a lot of people. It's part of the job.
If the Dolphins felt like Ochocinco was a must-have, he would already be signed.
