WR Jalen Coker, CAR (9 Viewers)

ARSB ran low 4.5 at his pro day FWIW

I take what you’re saying but I live in USC country and he ran a 4.61. Hand timed. That’s not good. He may indeed have hit 21 MPH in pads which means that Detroit found a gem that slipped through the cracks more than anything.
So this is inaccurate???

More like "Unofficial".

Got him after waivers. Not expecting anything but the rest of the wire was retreads, has beens and never was'.

Honestly, you shouldn’t. Speed and separation issues and Bryce Young (as of now) as your QB? Ugh. Granted, he runs okay, but it’s not great.

Johnson did get traded. But Mingo is still there, and Thielen will be back soon. I think you’ll see a downtick in routes run and it’s not exactly like he was getting peppered with double digit targets.

I mean, I have him, too. I added him two weeks ago. But that’s dynasty—I wouldn’t expect anything great for redraft. He’s a stash and hold.

Good chance Thielen gets traded and Mingo has done diddly.

Think Coker could surprise...in a WR4 kinda way lol.

Yeah, true.

But who wants Thielen and what can he fetch? If Diontae fetches a round increase from six to five (I think that’s what it was), does Thielen fetch even a seventh to sixth-round increase?

I don’t know. The going rate for receivers right now is about nil. That market’s been set, apparently.

Right, but does it really make sense to keep a Theilen around when you have B. Young throwing, and then Mingo/Legette/Coker all catching the ball?

Get what you can get for an aging Theilen and let the young kids play.

I agree. I’m just wondering if Carolina and their trade partners are going to agree. It doesn’t behoove CAR at all to win games right now. Lose, lose, lose and take the pain now for that first overall. Then you just draft another QB at number one and reset this whole shebang.

So no, they shouldn’t hang onto Thielen. But CAR has their own way of doing things under Tepper, and it doesn’t always make tons of sense.

Arrow aggressively pointing up. Nice to see him earn some downfield targets (beautiful sideline catch last game). He is not huge but has a big vert and long arms. He said coming out he tries to emulate larger receivers with a “my ball mentality.” That combined with his route running skillset and great hands should bode well for his future.

*EDIT - I didn’t realize he was 6’3”, thought he was in the 6’1” range. Maybe not Mike Evan’s huge, but pretty darn good size.
*EDIT - Apparently he is 6’1”….final answer

Got dam son. This kid is an undercover playmaker. Those routes and hands, whoa! I thought he was much smaller watching his reel the first time, like a 5'11'', 6'0'' guy - he certainly moves like one... But he's 6'3'' 215!! In the year of the WR apocalypse, dudes like Coker and Tillman are poised to rise from the ashes!

I like how they dropped the beat right when he took a big hit

As running games start to take off again, that also means less nickel and more man coverage to offset this. That means these bigger WRs could succeed again.

Agreed that he’s stash and hold. He was my 7th round, #111 pick. Total lottery pick but maybe I won a couple bucks here. The guy has talent, they all do if they’ve made a team. He won’t be a YAC machine or particularly elusive but solid hands and range. But yeah, WR4 type is probably his ceiling.

He’s 6’1” according to nfl.com and the NY Times. Combine measurement. Don’t want you guys to get too giddy. He’s described as big-bodied, which he is.

I started Coker over Hopkins in my 2nd flex position this week.

I lost.

ETA: The Snickers was pretty good though.

Mingo out the door clears the way for more Jalen Coker snaps the rest of the way

Coke Heads, rise up.
He’s not always right, but I usually pay attention to what Harmon says regarding WRs. Think he’s right that Coker’s snaps should go up without Mingo out there doing cardio sprints, but the return of Thielen is still a concern. Net/net, while the fantasy community got a little too excited about Coker last weekend, had he not stepped out at the one yard line on Sunday, we might be having a different conversation about him.

Next Gen Stats
Bryce Young & Jalen Coker (83-yd TD) 📽️

Coker reached a top speed of 21.15 mph, the fastest play by a Panthers ball carrier since Week 4, 2021 (DJ Moore, 21.38 mph).

Over a two-play span, the @Panthers gained +8.8% win probability on the Cooper Rush fumble and +19.2% on the Coker TD (a +28% swing).

Coke heads stand up ! Not that I started him but still I’m hopeful about this mid season waiver wire grab, good signs today

Coker looked quite good down the stretch last year when he became a full-time player. Definitely thought he had the chance to blossom over Legette, and still may do so, although his ceiling does look pretty capped when they drafted Tet so highly. Doesn't mean Coker can't be a valuable depth/bye week guy though.

Very impressive UDFA rookie season, just gives the feel of a vet on the field already. WR getting a little crowded with Tet addition so not sure where he fits in. I would like to see Thielen moved otherwise he may not see as much time on field. Not sure if Renfrow is a threat at this stage after a year off, but possible he is healthier and effective. A little muddy, but I don’t see how they keep him off the field as he seemed to be their most reliable option last year.

Unless XL takes a huge step forward, Coker's path to the #2 doesn't appear to be that arduous. Coker showed last season that he can beat NFL DBs on a consistent basis and has great hands. If he can stay healthy he can be a very productive WR in the NFL.

I heard Tet McM the rookie WR is having issues getting off the LOS
Link?

Tet is a big strong human with excellent footwork, getting off the line seems to be the least of his concerns. He's special. Separation (the real knock on him from the get-go) is overrated when you're as long and strong at the catchpoint as he is.

Probably Reddit in some jibberish
I like Coker and think he can do well but I feel like folks are overlooking Adam Thielen who had great chemistry and terrific stats 2nd Half of the season last year coming back from injury
I still see Thielen as the WR1 for now but understand that Tet is their future
Thielen is going to be a relaible target and set of hands on 3rd down for Bryce

Thielen has had a hell of a career but he's 34 and the Panthers didn't spend a top 10 pick on McMillan for nothing. Coker came out of nowhere last year and it's not inconceivable that he would have taken over as the #1 on the team had he been able to stay healthy. His catch rate and yards per reception were better than Thielen's. Coker's yards per reception were actually better than anything Thielen has put up as a pro since becoming a starter. There are a lot of signs that point towards Coker being better than he's given credit for and becoming a real contributor in this league, maybe even a star.

Legit question, does Coker line up in the slot? I believe Thielen is their slot wide receiver, I could be wrong of course
Coker would push for time behind XL and Tet on the outside, not sure he is the guy to supplant Thielen in the slot
Thielen and Coker were both out there and getting targets towards the end of the season. Was Thielen lined up slot and Coker outside? I don't have that answer handy
I'm keeping an open mind for the first couple weeks of the season

Some WRs do not do so well in the slot, look at Diggs last year in Houston before the injury, he wasn't doing that great
Was his 1st season where he was labeled or lined up as the slot WR
I don't think it's as easy as we might think. And when you type in best slot WRs in the NFL, you can see who pops up near the top

I just haven't gotten there on Thielen being pushed out of the slot position, you on the other hand feel much differently and I accept that. I think Coker will make it difficult on any of the perceived starting WRs if they slip up much. He might be out there as one of the starting 3 WRs, we'll see when they open the season, maybe sooner
