Even though my team probably could use a little help elsewhere . . .
20.15 David Martin, TE, MIA
I am really surprised at how little love he's gotten in the PDSL leagues. Consider that:
- McMichael averaged 65 receptions per year the past 3 years
- Dolphins TEs overall averaged 78 receptions the past 3 years
- The Dolphins signed Martin and then cut McMichael
- At the moment, Martin is slated to be the Fins starting TE (unless they sign a free agent (who's left?) or plan on starting a rookie)
- Jermaine Wiggins had 71 receptions in his one year with Culpepper (if he's the starter)
- Tony Gonzalez averaged 77 receptions per year over 5 years when Trent Green was healthy (if he's the starter)
- The Chargers TEs averaged 77 receptions per year with Cameron as OC and developed Antonio Gates from virtual obscurity
- Martin is 6'4", 265 and Gates is 6'4", 260
Now, I don't for a second believe that Martin is anywhere near as talented as Gates, nor do I believe that Martin is a stud in the making. Yes, he's been banged up and has a limited track record. But he's got decent hands and it's 2 points per reception in this league. If he can get 30 receptions, that's the same as 60 receptions for a WR. Of all the WRs that have been going the past few rounds, how many of them have a decent chance to get 60 receptions? 'Cause if he DOESN'T get 30-40 receptions, we have grossly underestimated the Miami WR corps . . .
So I ask, given all that, are there really 32 better TEs and almost 320 better fantasy options out there?
