Peavy (1 Viewer)

What's your take on him being dominant this year once he comes back in a couple weeks? He didn't log many innings in the two starts before his last one.

I have an opportunity to aquire Peavy, or Wainwright for a little less, in a 9-player keeper points league (in 1st place now). So I really want to minimize risk to win this year, but the prospects of Peavy being in my lineup (with Hamels, Felix and possibly Volquez) for years to come is interesting to say the least.

Is this a no brainer pay the goods for Peavy....or take a little discount and run with Wainwright?

what kind of discount are you talking about?

it's hard to say exactly what peavy will do, but i would assume that'll he'll range anywhere from "above average" to "dominant" for the remainder of the season while being a significant injury risk. i wouldn't be surprised if he missed more time, but i think he'll be highly effective when pitching.

for a guy that was supposedly having a sub-par year before the injury, he was striking out a batter per inning with a K/BB over 3 with elbow pain.

Not totally sure yet. It's actually not that big of a difference probably.Francoeur to get WainwrightRios to get PeavyBoth will have draft picks involved w/ a possible 1st rounder in the Peavy deal.Might have to add Brandon Wood possibly into either deal.

Also, if he gets reinjured or stays hurt....he can't just be DL'd for a replacement. I have to roll with 7 SPs when some other teams will have 8 SPs (the max).....we start 5 SP each week, double starts are important.

unless the points system you use makes pitching really valuable (i've never played in a points league), i'd probably sit tight.i'm generally just not a fan of building around pitchers in keeper leagues. they're just too risky. i'm sure opinions of rios differ greatly, but i'd rather hang onto him in a keeper league. if you aren't convinced that rios hasn't turned into a poor man's shane victorino, then fire away.

The thing is my team is stacked (and young) in the OF. I want to win this year. It's a very competitve local league and while I always have a strong team, I have yet to win. I can always trade good pitching in this league. The points system favors power hitting overall....but good pitching gets solid points too. Wins are 8 points and there are no negatives. I agree with not building around pitching and building the team on power, that's sort of what I've done (only kept Hamels and Felix last year, the rest were hitters). Kinsler and Youk turned out to be awesome picks in the first two rounds this year.My OF (start 3):Rios, Francoeur, Granderson, Bradley, Guillen...plus Gomez rotting in my minors (and McCutchen). Gomez is 1pt/ab sitting in my minors and Bradley has been great so far.Rest of my starters: Martin, Loney/Youk 1b/dh, Kinsler, Tejada, Braun, and my OFs.I'm trying to push Franceour in both deals, I think I'd rather keep Rios.
