Pedestrian deaths surge...yay cell phones. (1 Viewer)

Five states account for 44% of all pedestrian fatalaties. Despite being 30% of population.

In vegas up by 27%

In L.A. up by 80%

“One possibility can be seen during rush hour in downtown Chicago just by looking at both the drivers of the dozens of vehicles inching through traffic and the scores of pedestrians crossing the busy intersections. One thing many have in common is that their eyes are down, staring at their phones”

Vegas doesn't surprise me. You have masses of pedestrians that are both drunk and distracted by cell phones. You mix that with distracted drivers (along with hyper aggressive taxi drivers) and those numbers easily balloon.

Yet nobody is calling for a ban on cell phones. These things are killing people. What a travesty!

I don't think people would care about guns if you guys were using them just to kill yourselves.  Bad comparison.

There are laws concerning cell phone use while driving a vehicle in many states. Abnd these laws are a direct response to deaths where the primary cause was a distracted driver. But I am sure you knew that and just wanted to get in some inane analogy to gun laws

In all seriousness, is anybody surprised by this? You have both drivers and pedestrians being distracted even more than ever by technology. I think this would be the expected result.

I have seen some footage of the self driving cars. That scares me. I think that can only make things worse. LOL
