Conference call with Tannenbaum on ESPN: "Bittersweet moment...great moment...Chad gave his heart and soul to the organization...we'll have more to say about that tomorrow.... We have more work to do with the league.... We'll have more in a few hours."

Q: "So you're saying Chad won't be with the team?"

A: "Yes."

Q: "Part of the trade?"

A: "No. He will be part of another transaction tomorrow."

T: "Didn't think this was going to happen...went away for a week, then it heated up real quickly at the end."

This was my immediate thought when I heard he was leaving the team. If everything aligns and they get a QB not named Brodie, they could compete...for the wild card of course.

I voted other though and I think it's not really a sleeper, but how about the Ravens. They could use a QB with experience(that isn't Boller) and Cameron's offenses are more run-based and short efficient pass based. Perhaps Pennington could be the player they hoped McNair was going to be.

The Vikes make sense, but they seem very committed to Jackson, I don't see Chad as a real option for them, though he's probably better than anyone they have.

- From reports for Chief fans on the board it sounds like Huard is on his way out. I just can't picture any team excited at the prospect of going into the season with a Croyle/Thigpen duo at QB. Say what you want about the MIA QB situation, Croyle/Thigpen is worse and it's not even close.

I'd say KC or Miami before the Bears, I really doubt he'll end up in Chicago. Out of the three, Chicago is the least certain about their starter, but adding a 3rd option would just make things worse IMO. In Miami it looks like McNown to start the season and Henne possibly taking over late (if he's ready) and KC's settled on Croyle for the time being. If either believes Pennington is a better option they may seek to pick him up. They're both in rebuilding mode so I don't see how Chad makes much sense for either of them, other then a veteran presence.

Minnasota Has T.Jackson, G.Ferrote (as the vetern backup) and Booty as the young buck. I doubt they'd want to carry four QB's and I'm not sure they'd veiw Pennington as a better veteran option over Ferrote.

i love pennington, but i think he makes the most sense as a backup somewhere, at this point.

the arm strength might be the fatal flaw. it's nice having a QB who's smart with the ball, but it's very limiting to an offense to know there is no deep threat. i'd think teams would exhaust all options, give every young QB a chance to succeed before having their offense rely on pennington. sounds like a backup to me. there are worse gigs in life.

i hope i'm wrong. i like the guy. would love to see him go start somewhere and have a great year.

i don't think he'll go to miami, but it won't be b/c they are divisional rival. if anything, that would be reason to go there.i don't see pennington going to a bad team though. for one, i don't see him being a starter and putting a weak armed QB on a bad team doesn't seem like it would help matters much.

if he's not in minny with a shot at starting by week 4, i see him as the back up on a good team that needs serviceable backup to prevent a disaster from happening.

I think Kansas City is the best option for all parties involved, but why would he NOT go to a division rival? I don't see a particular reason not to. It's not like, Oh I love this team so much, they cut me, but I still don't want to beat them.

I was thinking in before Felger said it and you posted it this morning.certainly Pennington will want to go somewhere where he can start, but I'd love him as a backup in NE.I've always liked Pennington's game... he's a smart QB, makes good decisions, and that really is as (or more) important than the rocket arm.

I just came back in to post that they are most likely releasing him today, so I guess all bets are off. With that said, for his sake, I hope he goes to a place where he can compete for a starting job.

While this is true, Pennington doesn't really bring anything that they don't have in Johnson. They both have rather weak arms but a good head for the game. Johnson is already acclimated to the team and offense. I don't see where Chad would bring any additional value. Their interest in bringing in Chris Simms is as a 3rd stringer. I don't see Pennington being interested in 3rd string duties.

No, he throws a nice deep ball. His biggest weakness is the 15-20 yard out pattern. That's the one that requires a gun.

Being this far into training camp, and Johnson already being well-acclimated to the offense and team, I don't see it other than age itself (32 vs. 40).

If reports are true that he's been trying to trade for Chris Simms, why wouldn't he want to take a look at Pennington?
