He should be a Dolphin faster than you can say "New York Jets Playbook".
From PFT:
FINS WANT CHADPosted by Mike Florio on August 7, 2008, 12:43 p.m. To little surprise, the guy who was running the show in New York when Chad Pennington was drafted is now interested in bringing Pennington to his current place of employment..
I don't think the Jets are scared.. Chad will just be like.. "Ok here is the play where they Dink".... "And here is the play where they dunk".... "Here is the play where they lob the ball 20 yards on the fly".... "Other than that they just hand off a lot or play action to the RB".

It's a shame you can't put Favre's arm on Pennington's body. I've never seen anything from Chad that made me think he was anything but a great leader and a great person.
:wolf: As opposed to Favre who lacks leadership skills or the head for the game? :)
My guess is that ODmcD was saying Pennington had a lot of potential to be great if not for the noodle arm. Most QBs at his stage physically would be shown the door to the NFL altogether, yet it is a testament to his composure, leadership and "brains" that he can still find employment. I don't this the poster meant a knock on Favre, just wished Penny had his physical ability. At this point, it makes sense, but as a Jets fan for life, I am sad to see Penny go. He was good for the team, could handle adversity and was a good teammate. I think most Jets fans would agree with that.

no doubt about it. Chad was/is a smart, tough, gutsy player. He'd run through a wall if you'd ask him too. His arm stregnth was just so poor, and he has really started to stare down recievers in the past 2 years (especially on the out routes he has trouble throwing)Give Chad Brett's arm and a good supporting cast and he'd be an All-Pro QB.

 Not as a knock on Favre, but as a statement that Pennington could have been special if he hadn't been plagued by arm troubles.

 Really hope he lands in a good spot.BTW, CNBC is now showing a helicopter in the air that WNBC *believes* is Favre's copter going to Hofstra. :) (earlier they showed the plain landing from Miss and them all getting out on the tarmac....)

Local (Boston) talk after the Pats broadcast tonight (speculation?) that the Pats may have an interest in signing Pennington.

No surprise, as bad as Cassel looks.
Plus, Belichck knows Parcells may want him. :blackdot: I continue to hope he goes somewhere with a better chance of playing. It is nice that Tannenbaum has started every interview talking about the bittersweet moment having to release Chad before he talks about Favre.

Miami is definately interested and that's a starting job. KC and former coach Herm Edwards could be interested. He's an upgrade in Minnesota but I'm not sure that's as good of a fit. The Bucs are always looking to add more QBs. Delhomme is still a question mark in Carolina as well. In Chicago it would create more contraversy instead of solving their real problems but they are a possibility. Maybe he wants a ring so he'll sign cheap with the Patriots like so many other vets. Now Baltimore is interesting but then they'd have to cut either Boller or Smith which I dont see happening.

I dont expect Green Bay to show so much interest. They spent two draft picks and its not like Rogers is a rookie in need of veteran support. Only if Brohm really struggles do I expect them to spend on a veteran. Green Bay is building with youth right now.

Why on earth would a rebuilding team like the Dolphins, with three decent QB prospects in McCown, Henne and Beck, want to get Pennington? :goodposting:

Minnesota's not interested, and the Chiefs think he'll wind up in Miami where he'll have a chance to start. The Chiefs said he'd backup Croyle in KC if brought in.

The Giants are showing interest too.

If Miami is the only team that will give him an opportunity to start, that's probably where he'll go. He's 32 and wants to play. You can't blame him.

Bringing him in would allow the Dolphins to cut McCown and develop Beck and Henne behind him. Pennington would certainly be a better mentor than McCown.

Good call, Andy.So do you (or anyone else) have any thoughts on Pennington this year? What kind of numbers do you forecast? I apologize if this has been asked or debated elsewhere, I am just a bit lazy right now to search for anything.

First of all, I appreciate the kudos. Thanks.I'm more of a reporter (outside of FBGs as well) than I am a forecaster or projections guy. If Pennington can get some decent protection I think he'll perform well. New York hadn't exactly been heaven for him in recent years. A change of scenery for a mature QB usually plays out well. I think he'll have enough targets in the passing game, but it's going to be reliant on a respectable running game. Sellable play-action will serve him well, as with most, but he'll be a little more reliant on it. If he remains healthy, I could see him finishing QB15-QB20 easily.TE Fasano gets an upgrade here.
