People who deliberately lie and spread hate (1 Viewer)

I’ve been thinking a lot about the issues raised in the “how do we get out of this” thread: like many people here, I’m worried about the growing divisions in our society. I don’t have any great solutions. But I thought one way forward might be to realize that there are people out there, in the public arena, who deliberately seek to divide us, to spread anger and hatred around, and that they do this for their own selfish gain, either political or monetary or both. I have decided to identify some of those that I believe fall into this category. In no way is this a complete list, and I will happily add or subtract from it if anyone has suggestions or arguments to make. I have divided this list into two categories: politicians and pundits. In no particular order:

Politicians

Donald Trump

Maxine Waters

Marjorie Taylor Greene

Ihlan Omar

Jim Jordan

Ayanna Presley

Rashida Tliab

Paul Gosar

Matt Gaetz

Lauryn Boebert

Adam Schiff ?

Tomi Lahren

Alexandria Ocasio Cortez ?

Joe Biden ?

Pundits

Tucker Carlson

Don Lemon

Candace Owens

Joy Reid

Tiffany Cross

Sean Hannity

Rachel Maddow ?

Again this is just a preliminary list, off the top of my head. i will add more later on.

Good start.
If you mean that ALL of them seek to divide us, I strongly disagree. The vast majority do not. Even some of the most partisan on either side, (for example Nancy Pelosi and Ted Cruz), don’t fall into this category. Sure they want their side to win and will push hard for it, but they don’t express hatred or push blatantly false conspiracy theories. Only a small minority do that, and I think it’s time to point them out.

This is a silly topic brought on by silly ideas.  And if you are going to reject other people's opinions, then you are being divisive and this whole thing is silly.

Why not just name it "Tim's list and everyone else is wrong if they don't agree."

Ugh....Aren;t you due for some more time off soon?

Can’t agree with this either. She is polarizing for sure, but not intentionally divisive IMO.
You went right to the specific people you believe before really even establishing what the criteria is...and now it seems fairly subjective.

Joe Biden is unequivocally seeking to ostracize and divide the covid unvaccinated from the vaccinated.

Why engage him?  Seriously.

The people most responsible for division in the country?:

Me

You

The politicians and pundits listed above don’t make us divided as a country - rather, they simply reveal (and then capitalize) on our own worst proclivities.

That's cool in theory, but they are called "leaders" and "influencers" for a reason.  People follow them.

"Here is a list of people dividing us and anyone you recommend is wrong.  My list is the only correct list."

I wonder that every time Tm starts a thread and all the usual suspects come out of the woodwork to take shots at him. I mean, you could see from the main page that he started the thread, so what were you expecting? That he would suddenly say something you found reasonable and intelligent? That you would post the perfect comeback in response to him and it would be so devastating, he would immediately quit the forum in shame?

I agree with Tim on some things and not on others; mostly I find his volume of posting to be exhausting. I don't really get why he more than anyone else drives other posters into such a rage (OK, maybe I sort of do). Regardless, if another poster did put me on tilt to that extent, I would probably just ignore him. I honestly don't understand why people feel the need to fight him to the death on every topic. I mean, what exactly are you hoping to accomplish?

It's like watching a car wreck.  That's why.  As much as you want to not look, you can't help yourself.  It's human nature.

You ever have that family member, or member of your friend circle that always thought he was the smartest person in the room? Always had a story to one up yours, always spoke to all the stuff he's read as some sort of personal resume?    You know the guy.  The one you are forced to tolerate because he's an in law, or a friend of a friend, and who most people just don't like?  That's Tim here.

I honestly thought this would be a good discussion. I disagree with Adam Schiff and Rachel Maddow. Doesn’t mean I’m going to disagree with everyone.
However if you guys really think they belong then fine. Not trying to be a dictator here. I will add them.

Does anyone else think I should add Joe Biden? If two people second you I will. Is there anyone I should remove?

Please add George Soros and AOC.
I disagree completely about Soros- he gives money to Democrats, how is that divisive?
AOC I’m in between on which is why I added the 3 other members of the Squad but not her.
But if somebody agrees with you I will add both.

So, just to be clear, you added ALL the other members of "The Squad" except the actual leader of said squad?  c'mon, Tim.  That's ridiculous.

George Soros sole purpose is to divide us.  That's why he gives to these causes that undermine us as a people and our democracy.

Again, if someone agrees with you, I will add them. Unfortunately I don’t.

This was predictable.

Tim please change the thread to. 'Tims list of those that divide us"  masking it as a forum for anyone's opinion other than yours is just wrong
