Perry Riley (1 Viewer)

Colts Rule!

Footballguy
How bright is his future? He's overtaken McIntosh finally as a full-time backer. 7 solo, 9 total tackles in his first week was nice to see. For those like me in assist friendly scoring formats being in the assist friendly stadium of Washington is a bonus. Can he be a tackling machine playing next to old man London the rest of the way and continue it into next year? Perhaps even having top 10-15 LB potential? That would be sweet!

I think he'll get his fair share of tackles/assists. Not sure about top 10-15 (LB1 air), but he can be a solid #2. He appears to be an absolute beast on the field. He gets in to holes and doesn't miss tackles, at least, not like McIntosh was.Jene posted this in the Everydown LB thread:

**The Redskins put Perry Riley into the lineup for Rocky McIntosh and trusted him with every-down duty.
Not only was he an every down LB, but when Fletcher missed a few snaps, Riley took over the play calling duties (add to this, Keyaron Fox played the other ILB position, not McIntosh; since he's only on a 1-year contract, I have serious doubts that McIntosh will be a Redskin next season). Here's what John Keim posted following Haslett's weekly meeting w/ the press:
Linebacker Perry Riley will continue to start at inside linebacker opposite Fletcher after a solid debut. Yes, Riley made mistakes: the coaches say he had 15 minuses out of 64 snaps. But Riley also had four tackles for a loss.

“He’s going to have growing pains,” coach Mike Shanahan said. “But everybody could see his speed and quickness and athleticism. That’s one thing you can’t teach.”

The Redskins blitzed Riley and Fletcher quite a bit last game, but they typically don’t run those same blitzes vs. Dallas. That means Riley will have to do more reading and reacting.

Haslett said there were a couple plays vs. Miami in which Riley executed his responsibility, but failed to adjust to a twist in the blocking.

“If it ever happens again or it happens this week, he’ll know exactly what we want,” Haslett said.

Not a great game Sunday, but 5 solos and 6 assists shows he was around the ball a lot.

You could a lot worse in good IDP leagues right now.

He is flying to the ball ala London Fletcher. I'm not used to seeing a Redskin fly to the ball that's not wearing #59 or #30 (or my display name for that matter).

He appears to have a bright future as an inside backer!

Maybe he rotates out of Nickel packages? Or maybe they went with a lot of 6 DB sets. Can't tell since I didn't get to see the game on tv.

Will he be IDP gold for years to come?

Hmm, don't remember him missing time. I believe he's usually been in nickel packages and I doubt they went 1 LB much against the Jets since they don't go 4 or 5 WR very often (I assume). I may still have the game on DVR. Not sure I'd get to looking at that until Friday evening, but I might check this out.
