Peterson hurt, who to pick up? (1 Viewer)

I play in an IDP league that starts 3 defensive players; 1 DL, 1 DB and 1 flex. Scoring is as follows:

Tackle Solo (1)Tackle Assist (.5)Sack (1)Interception (2)Fumble Force (1)Fumble Recovery (1)Touchdown (6)Safety (2)Pass Defended (1)

LB's tend to be the highest scorers and I was all set with Bullock and Peterson...until Peterson got hurt. :wall: I'm certainly not going to drop him, but I need to pick up another player in case Peterson can't go week 1. These are some of the guys still available. Who do you think is the best of the lot? Is there some sleeper player that I might want to look for instead?

Fletcher, Pierce, or Witherspoon should all produce numbers at the same level as Peterson's output. Your system does not heavily weight sacks or turnovers, so I would go with Fletcher.

Wow ... if those are the guys available, who's taken?

I'd go with Pierce but the homer in me might be effecting this choice.

That scoring system is heavily, heavily skewed toward tackle monsters.I'll echo the sentiments of those who've said Pierce, Fletcher, and Witherspoon. But Donnie Edwards has out-tackled those guys every season and there's little reason to think that he won't this season as well. The back and knee injuries are apparently not going to be an in-season concern. Despite what the general manager may be saying, Marty will rest Donnie for a series here and there (speculating) but will mostly use him in the same role. If he gets traded, the most likely destination seems to be NO, where he'll have every bit as much opportunity. He's got plenty of long term risk, but not too much short term risk.If you're looking for safe production, Pierce and Fletcher are your targets. If you're looking for top 3 potential and are willing to assume some risk, take Edwards. I'd probably leave Witherspoon and Ryans alone -- they'll probably be solid, but both are still somewhat of an unknown in a league where only 15-20 LBs are being started. Both could be top 10; both could be mid-teens.

Starting MLB Mike Peterson (MCL sprain) is expected to be ready for the start of the regular season according to head coach Jack Del Rio.

I'm pretty leery on this one. Peterson owners should probably hope he doesn't play until he's nearly fully recovered.MCL sprains, even insignificant ones, are important. You'll most often see them as a 3-4 week injury at minimum and some (Gerald Hayes, among others) get diagnosed as something worse -- partial tears, meniscal injuries, terrible triad stuff -- later on.

If he plays this week, he may be more likely to re-injure or sustain a separate injury while compensating for this one. It's hard to think he'll put up his usual production with the likely loss of leverage and pursuit speed due to the knee sprain.

Probably wishful thinking on the Axeman's part.
