Peyton going to ride the pine for the playoffs? (1 Viewer)

looks like peyton owners will need to be concerned about him playing very little the last couple weeks of the season. remaining schedule doesnt look like its bad enough to lose home field. i guess our only hope is that indy is still undefeated and they decide its very important to them to finish undefeated.

if they lose one game before week 15, its probably bad news for manning owners. :wall:

Well they should learn from last year....and just play on out....they lost their momentum for the playoffs and it killed them.

How did it work out for the Colts last year when they started benching their starters at the end of the season? I don't see them doing that again this year. I think Peyton plays at least until week 16 regardless of the situation.

I am a Manning owner petrified of this.

As a Pats fan looking at our easy schedule, I can see us running the table and maybe picking up a game so the Colts will come in to Week 16 with something to play for.

I had also read somewhere that the Colts think resting guys last year led to cohesion problems that contributed to them being flat against Pittsburgh and they're wary of making the same mistake. So maybe it lands in the middle– Manning and his receivers play well into the 3rd quarter or something vs Houston.

Meanwhile, I have Jake Plummer stashed for Week 16 vs. Cincy at Denver, in case I'm lucking enough to make the SB, in case I'm unlucky enough that the Colts have nothing to play for.

Also, the Colts have some potential tough games over the next few weeks– Wk. 11 @ Dal, Wk. 12 vs. Phi, Wk. 14 @ Jax, Wk. 15 vs. Cin.

So Manning owners can only pray they drop a game or two.

If you are concerned about this - root for the Chargers and Ravens to get on big winning streaks (and of course the Colts losing some games - especially AFC games).

this is the type of info i was hoping to find by posting this. while some whiny tools may think its "useless" speculation, i think its definately worthy of some discussion.

i have delhomme as my backup who is in atlanta for my superbowl week. seems like it would be a pretty good matchup, but obviously would rather have the guy that got me there in my lineup.

And don't forget @ Houston week 16!Ok, even as a Texans homer I couldn't get that out with a straight face.

Dungy has gone on record about not caring about going undefeated in the regular season (no link, just heard on Mike and Mike this morning) and while I agree the Colts lost momentum going into the playoofd due to resting the starters, I also think that Dungy's son passing played a very large role in their demise. I am sure that is something management is keeping in mind, so they may not balk at Dungy's decision to rest starters if they have a couple games in hand come week 16.

If they clinch home field, they obviously also get the 1st round playoff BYE. Note to Dungy: that is more than enough "rest" for the players, anything more = RUST. The only valid reason to sit players is to avoid potential injuries - how many of those has Manning suffered in his career? (I realize that just because it hasn't happened does not mean it won't happen, and I did see Manning get bent in half backwards in the recent game). It seems to be a very bad idea to throw away momentum, chemistry, or whatever you want to call it, and invite rust just to avoid the relatively remote possibility of significant injury...

Unfortunately, I'm fairly certain (as a Colts homer) that Dungy would do the same thing over again (rest the starters if there is nothing left to play for). I recall hearing that he did not blame the extra rest for their sub-par performance against Pittsburgh in the playoffs last season.

Our hope as Manning owners should be that the two-loss teams the Colts haven't beaten and won't play in the regular season (San Diego and Baltimore) stay undefeated the rest of the way. That way, maybe the tiebreaker would still be in doubt by Week 16 if the Colts are 14-0 by then.

As a Colts fan, I'm hoping for an undefeated season. But as a Manning owner in FF, it would be better for my FF teams if the Colts were to lose to Dallas or Philly or (gasp) Jacksonville along the way.

i find myself in the same position as last year. hoping the Colts a) chase going undefeated or b) hoping they lose and the top AFC teams win. lost the super bowl last year because of manning resting. this year i find myself waiting for teams to fall out of contention and see if i can get a QB cheap. sadly we wont know whats gonna happen until it happens.

Does anyone recall how Jim Sorgi or any of the other Indy backups did in those final weeks?
