It's too early to tell but on the list of potential Jamaal Charles Stud Killers I'm putting the ACL at #1.hardlyThere goes Charles as a fantasy stud.
Johnny U please explain. I don't own charles and was trying to get him before the Hillis signing. How does this not take him out of the top rb pool? Is it that he doesn't need a lot of carries? Or that Hillis will prolong his career?hardlyThere goes Charles as a fantasy stud.
By stud, I mean inside the top ten. Not sure he'll get there. They're also trying add Tolbert, you know. Seems like Charles is in Ahmad Bradshaw of last year territory, with fewer redzone touches. And that's if he's healthy. That sounds like an RB2 at best to me.hardlyThere goes Charles as a fantasy stud.
Hillis' touches won't hurt Charles' production. As we already know, Charles can do a lot with minimal touches and I'm not saying his touches will be minimal. I look for Charles to be the stud he was prior to the ACL tear. Hell, Gore has had 3 ACL tears. I expect Hillis to get around 10 touches a game and that won't affect Charles a whole lot.Johnny U please explain. I don't own charles and was trying to get him before the Hillis signing. Agree with Johnny here. It's not like they just drafted Richardson. We are talking about Peyton Hillis, Hillis is a quitter who blew last year. This signing really does not hurt Charles at all, Crennel is not a tard like Haley who will limit Charles that much.Hillis' touches won't hurt Charles' production. Were you expecting a lot of Jamaal Charles goalline carries prior to the Hillis signing?By stud, I mean inside the top ten. Not sure he'll get there. They're also trying add Tolbert, you know. From what I remember, most peopleidiots believed Charles' value tanked after Thomas Jones signed with KC in 2010 following his 2009 campaign of 1400 yards and 14 TDs. No way Charles would break 1000 or score more than 4-6 TDs total with Jones in the mix. Yet, he put up almost 2000 all purpose yards and scored 8 times total, and that was with slightly less than 50% of the carries (230 for himself compared to Jones' 245). I don't expect Charles to see a significant drop in value just because Hillis is in town... at least in non-PPR leagues anyway.
It's pretty obvious Hillis will definitely cut into Charles' reception count, though. Charles was the clear cut receiving back in 2010, getting 45 receptions to Jones' 14, but Hillis might slash that in number half or better, which means according to Charles' 2010 numbers, we're talking about a possible overall reduction of 200-300 yards and a TD or two at the least. I also think that while Charles will definitely play, it will still take him another 6-12 months from the beginning of the 2012 season to truly recover and get back to his 100%, pre-injury form, barring any re-injury along the way.
A ballpark 1400 all purpose yards and about 5-6 TDs total is about all I'm expecting out of him this year (considering both backs stay healthy and play all 16 games). But of course, I'm hoping he'll actually do better than that.
I recently dealt Blount straight up for Hillis (I already own JC).Was toying with the thought of starting them both just out of knowing one of them should blow up each week. For deeper thought: what if something happens to either of them? I wouldn't think McCluster would step in a get a share of carries and I certainly don't think Cyrus Gray is going to get the reps yet.'Routilla said:Anyone thinking of drafting both Charles and Hillis and starting them both each week while loading up at WR/TE/QB in the meanwhile?
This plus Hillis is actually a talented guy despite what people like to say on him here. I'm sure he can't bounce it to the outside as well as Charles but he can do it. He's a back that never needs to come off the field. He's playing on a one year contract for a big payday with an OC that he's been successful with. I know it won't be popular, but I think he'll score more points than Charles. For those who want to flip out and call me an idiot, give me your projections. Personally, I expect similar usage (including receptions) but with Hillis getting the vast majority of TDs. And I wouldn't be the least bit surprised to see Hillis receive more carries and receptions. The guy moves the chains and keeps the clock running. If Charles has lost any speed, there will be little motivation to insert him over Hillis. At their current draft positions, I think JC is an easy avoid and Hillis is an easy buy.One thing I think people are overlooking is that the Chiefs' OC Brian Daboll was the Browns' OC in 2010 when Hillis had his big year. And Romeo is a defensive guy, so much of the play calling may very well go to Daboll.
