BEREA -- The Browns are acknowledging that General Manager Phil Savage included a profanity in an e-mail response to an angry fan.

The exchange was first reported on the Web site deadspin.com.

"I heard something about it this morning," said coach Romeo Crennel. "We all get frustrated at times. Phil, generally, like the rest of us tries to be professional and hold it in, but sometimes some things slip out. It's unfortunate that it slipped out.

"But [during] tough times, tough things happen. I'm sure if we had to do it over again, we'd do it a little bit differently. I talked to him this morning and said we just have to hang in there, keep fighting and try to get this thing turned."

The e-mail exchange occurred during the Browns' 29-27 win in Orchard Park, N.Y., Monday night.

The fan, who appeared on WKNR radio on the "Tony Rizzo Show" without giving his real name, said he had been badgering Savage during the course of the evening.

Savage's last response was: "Go root for Buffalo. F--- you."

Savage sent the e-mail 23 minutes after the game ended.

I used think Savage was a sadsack... I don think that anymore.

:goodposting: good for you Jack!

I don't suppose the fan aired the entire exchange of e-mails?

i'd kind of like to see the rest of the exchange

Why the hell would youthrow the ball with 6 minutes left? This is officially a regime that isworse than Butch Davis'. By the way, just like last week - this emailwas written while the Browns still had the lead.Phil wrote (after the game had ended):Go root for Buffalo-f#@* you-

Some fan has the balls to berate the guy (for weeks it sounds like) and then when Savage gives it back, he cries foul and goes on the radio?

I couldn't care less about the Browns or Savage, but good for him.

...and people doubted KW2 in the incident where Savage acted like an idiot. Savage seems like a complete moron at this point. Stupid is as stupid does!

How dumb can you be? It's a stupid fan email - I'm sure he gets hundreds. Why would you reply? Why would you even read it?

Savage severely misjudged his team's talent and opportunity for a playoff run based on the 07 mirage induced by a very weak schedule.

This team was an implosion in the making from the start. The leveraging of his salary cap and future picks for a win now shot this season will continue that implosion into the foreseeable future.

This is just another symptom. The disease is a serious lack of judgment.

I agree. Im suprised the guy emailer didnt mention the "staph infections," and how Savage basically tried to sweep it under the rug.I know K2 is kinda big mouth but I think he was on point with his rant eventhough he prob. shouldnt have made it so public.

I'm not sure if I agree with you or not. One thing I do agree with is the fact that the danger was there to overrate the team based on winning 10 games with a very weak schedule.I blame the Pittsburgh and Washington losses on Romeo's poor clock management and two minute drill decisions. With those wins, we'd be 6-4 and right in the hunt. I do think that we'd be MUCH farther along and competing for a wild card spot already if Savage would have taken the best offer for Anderson and started off with Quinn. I also think that Savage swung and missed on the Corey Williams deal, and whereas Shaun Rogers is a beast, we were severely exposed in our secondary when Davin Holly went out for the year. Here's my blame breakdown:Romeo: 50%Savage: 25%Tucker: 15%Chudzinski: 10%

I think it's hilarious that people are actually congratulating him for responding in writing to a fan this way. Just proves that he really is an idiot.

Not too smart to put that in writing.

But I'm fine with the sentiment. Savage is the guy who started to work on our O & D lines, and this team is improving as a direct result of that. I know folks are pretty down on Romeo and some of his clock management/play calling skills - but the Browns show flashes of a pretty darn good team, and I'm not ready to throw them under the bus.

The dude didn't go on the radio crying foul. I heard the interview when he was on the Munch show a couple hours ago, not Rizzo's this morning, and he wished he didn't even write the email to begin with. Or been a little nicer himself over all his emails to the brass. Not sure why he went to the media then. He seems fine with Savage's response, almost like he deserved it.

They have talent there problem is Coaching.

That "talent" was very overrated due to the fluke that last season's schedule produced.Winslow, Thomas, Rogers, Jackson, and Cribbs are not enough to be considered a talented core.Quinn/Anderson, Lewis, Wimbley, Edwards, Jones......These guys should be part of that core, but instead are huge question marks.Winslow may not even be with the team next season and unless Quinn/Edwards really step up they actually have a noticeable lack of talent at the skill positions.Although the coaching is terrible, it's not all about the coaching.

I say good for both of them. Good for the fan for telling what probably many fans feel, and good for the GM for telling the fan how he felt. Both jobs are tough (fan and GM) but somebody's got to do both :^ P

If I were in Savages position I would not even respond. Just..Thanks for your input.

This is a very overrated excuse for things. The Browns have beaten teams they were supposed to lose to this year and lost a few games they could have easily won which would have them right in the mix for the wild card and division.

:goodposting: I assumed all of these guys had a real email account and a "public" email account that some intern somewhere sifted through. Most probably do.

This is what I'm thinking. Block the address and move on, right? I mean seriously, I'm sure every owner/player gets bashed at some point for something they've done. Why respond? Moronic. Not saying the fan is right, he's obviously obsessing over something he has no control over. But for Savage to respond? It's just plain dumb.
