Pitchers that are having a decent Spring (1 Viewer)

Megalomaniac

Footballguy
I need some pitching help in my H2H. Here are a few guys having a good spring. Anyone worth a spot and who should i drop?

Pitchers

Edison Volquez CIN 20IP (26 K, 6 ER, and 4 BB) 4th starter

Jake Westbrook CLE 14IP (15 K, 0 ER, and 4 BB) Abdominal strain LY, rebound?

Carlos Villanueva MIL 24IP (17 K, 7 ER, and 5 BB) 4th starter...right now.

Justin Germano SD 24.2IP (15 K, 10 ER, and 5 BB) Earned 5th spot. Added a changeup this yr.

Jon Lieber CHC 18IP (15 K, 5 ER, and 3 BB) Long relief, but could crack rotation.

Yusmeiro Petit ARI 12.1IP (17 K, 4 ER, and 3 BB) Might get spot on rotation with Johnson on DL?

My Lineup

Stats=W, SV, K, ERA, WHIP

SP Scott Kazmir, James Shields, Dustin McGowan, Brad Penny, Gil Meche, Bronson Arroyo

Other guys out there are Maddux, Pettitte, Mark Hendrickson, Wandy Rodríguez, Scott Olsen, Daniel Cabrera, José Contreras, Orlando Hernandez

I would rather have Maddux than Arroyo. Arroyo's 2006 was an aberration. He'll be mediocre at best. Maddux won't set the world on fire but he won't kill you and he's in a great pitchers park.

Monitor Lieber, Villanueva, and Germano, but don't pick any of them up yet.

Westbrook is the Jeff Suppan of the AL. He'll get you wins but won't help anywhere else. I don't see Petit getting much of a shot, and even if he does, I don't like his home park.

Volquez is an extreme flyball pitcher. I sense he'll be a disaster at GABP. Is Johnny Cueto available? He's the young Reds pitcher you want.

Stay far away from the other guys you listed.

Arroyo is going to be more prepared...we won't be hearing about weekend concerts anymore....I wouldn't drop any of your pitchers for the WW fodder. The only pitchers tempting are Pettite and Volquez and maybe Villanueva.

In H2H and unless it's a really deep league, I think most of these guys are matchup plays. Pick 'em up if someone has two starts or is pitching in favorable situation. But pitchers of this caliber should be available throughout the year in most leagues.

I like Volquez, but probably not this year. Also, not a big fan of his home park.Westbrook is pretty much a mediocre pitcher on a good team. Expect some decent wins, so-so K's, and an ordinary WHIP and ERA. Depending on how deep your league is, a guy like Westbrook is almost always available on the WW.

Villanueva I'm avoiding. Started off great the first half of last year, faded. Underwhelming at best, avoid.

Lieber is about done, avoid.

Petit I think the jury is still out, but without a solid rotation spot and pitching in AZ, I'm not buying.

Germano however is an interesting player. He was one of those sleeper picks by the touts before last year's draft and although he didn't pan out, I'd monitor his first few starts closely. He could be decent and pitching in SD is always a good thing.

In a K league, Danial Cabrera should be acquired and placed on reserve if possible. One day, possibly, he will harness his talent and not walk 10 batters per game and put up very respectable numbers.

Pick up Maddux, start him in all home games and when he plays at San Fran. If he starts 30 games this year you should plan to start him 18-20 times and will be happy about that decision almost every time. Look at his split stats last year, he's a quality start at home.

Great info guys....thx for the help. I'm leaning towards keeping Arroyo for now, but he will be on a short leash. I'll keep a close eye on the others.

Pip's Invitation....this is a yahoo league and for some reason, Cueto isn't available. I sent them an email yesterday to get him added. I also mentioned that some of Yahoo's writers have Cueto as NL rookie of the year and he is 3rd on the rotation....seems odd that he isn't available. Does anyone else have an opinion on this guy?

Yeah, that's right, he's not yet added to the Yahoo system. Forgot about that. I like him better in keeper leagues than redrafts because of his home park and manager. Still, he's got significant upside.
