PK Josh Brown (Rams) (1 Viewer)

I know kickers are normally regarded as meaningless or too inconsistent to be relied upon but I was noticing a couple of things that I thought I'd make mention of:

1. A healthy SJax allows the Rams to at least move the ball somewhat. Not enough for TDs per se, but methinks enough for FGs.

2. Two of the Rams' last four games are at home, in a dome. The other two are at Atlanta and Arizona (both domes). In these tough winter times, FG kicking can be greatly affected by weather. This kicker's situation will clearly be void of that danger.

3. Cardinals, Seahawks, 49ers, Falcons. Not necessarily intimidating defenses.

4. According to MFL, 49ers and Seahawks are the top two teams in Points Allowed to PK.

I know Bulger doesn't exactly help with his picks, but what do y'all think?

Good thread. This may sound ridiculous but I have been stashing Brown on my roster since he was dropped early in the year by another squad. I only start him against bad defenses, and usually at home. I have used Scobee, Bryant and even Hartley one week when Brown's match-ups were awful.

The key point is that with SJAX playing, the offense is good enough to move the ball. Also, the coaching staff will let him attempt kicks of 50+, due to the dome, which is huge. They also let him kick FGs when they are losing 21-0 (Pats and Bears games recently). I know that he is always rated low on the cheatsheets and in Kickermania due to the Rams anemic offense, but look through the numbers and I think there is something here. For those of us in leagues that reward longer FGs, the guy is gold.

Sneaky stupid. The Rams offense and team is in a complete collapse. Yes Brown kicked 4 FGs this weekend but only because they were in the game. If they get behind early they will forgo the FG for TD's. You want to roll the dice with the 17th best kicker coming off his highest pt production week go for it.

The thing is, the Seahawks and Niners are out of playoff contention and I can totally see them staying in the game against these two with SJax in the lineup. The Cardinals and Falcons may be another story but it's not like they're powerhouse teams, either.

Obviously a frustrated Ram fan, and you should be. But objectively, I have started Brown in 3 games since I picked him up: at SF (where they fell behind but he still kicked 3 FGs - which immediately debunks your theory), CHI at home (where he missed a 40 yarder which would've given him a good day, and also kicked a 45 yarder when they were losing by 21 - which also debunks your theory), and MIA at home (big day). I guarantee that if SJAX stays healthy, that in weeks 15 and 16 at home, Brown will be a top 10 kicker, with potential to be top 5, especially for those of us, like I posted above, who reward long FGs. In my league, a 40 yarder is worth 6 and over 50 is worth 9. Plus even if you choose not to use him, he is great to roster just to know you have someone in good weather three straight weeks.

Valid point. I have him on a few rosters, but will only start him against bad defenses. The Rams offense is bad enough where it can move the ball into opposing territory against a bad defense, but it cannot punch it in. Their goal line offense is terrible. Against a good defense, they dont have a prayer.

Good kickers can add five or six points to a score above an average one. Ask anyone who lost a nail-biter to miss the playoffs whether or not they're important.

Brown's week 15 and 16 are made for the fantasy playoffs. If Jackson is playing, he's a great option. If your league gives bonuses for long kicks, this could be your guy.

While Brown could be a sneaky play, I think Dan Carpenter over the next few weeks is an even more solid play given the points allowed to kickers of the teams he plays.

Against the 9ers a few weeks ago they were down 35-6 in the 4th quarter and kicked another FG to make it 35-9...
