Burress in trouble with the NFL

CBS Sportsline is reporting that Giants wide receiver Plaxico Burress is facing possible discipline from the NFL for his failure to report two domestic disputes that occurred over the past several months. They resulted in restraining orders being taken out against him although no charges were filed.

Fantasy Spin:

This could result in more suspension time beyonf Week 5, as he is technically in violation of the NFL's Personal Conduct Policy. Owners should be more than a little concerned. Domenik Hixon is someone to invest in off the waiver wire.

Wow if the holds true and Burress sees extended time away this spells trouble for Burress owners. Well at least I have Chad johnson to hold up the slack while Burress is out.

Yeah....right.

Gotta love these classy NFL WRs. Shining example for kids. :excited: I think I'll go buy a Burress jersey and coffee mug to support the league.

There's about 1700 players in the NFL, you can't expect that all of them will be model citizens. There's plenty of guys in the NFL who are a shining example for kids, but the bad news gets more attention, because of people like you

Burress, Moss, TO, Chad Johnson, Steve Smith, Keyshaun Johnson, Michael Irvin, Jerry Rice, etc., etc., etc., etc., etc.Burress will get thumped for failing to reveal the particulars of his "family problems".Cant wait to see that piece of human garbage Rosenhouse spin this.

From BBI's front page:

"The interim head of the NFLPA says he does not believe that WR Plaxico Burress will face discipline from the NFL stemming from two domestic incidents that occurred earlier in the summer. Burress’ wife obtained two restraining orders against Plaxico, but both were thrown out of court."

Wow. Read between the lines in that article, and it almost seems to suggest the team imposed this suspension to appease the league and head off at the pass any investigation the NFL might have otherwise pursued. Smart organization. Too bad the Danny Ware arrest had to break coterminously with Plax's woes -- takes a little of the shine off the wholesome unblemished image the Giants like to project.

I hate it when people take baseless pot-shots at the lead dog.

The whole NFL worlds gone to hell in a handbasket. First Kiffen, now Burress...what next? Gruden gets a DWI?

Cant wait to see that piece of human garbage Rosenhouse spin this.
 While no doubt all good players, Jerry Rice doesn't deserve to be mentioned in the same sentence as those selfish headcases. He was always a model citizen. I can't recall him ever being frustrated, pulling PR stunts, or serving suspensions. Someone feel free to refresh my memory if I'm wrong, though.

I would settle for 19 of them.

Jerry was a fairly model citizen off the field (although do I recall a divorce?), but on the field he was the orginal "Throw me the damn ball" guy, with some documented tension between he and Steve Young. Probably the best WR ever, but a whiner nonetheless.

Is Hixon in fact, the guy to take in this situation, as a Plaxico owner.
I'd like to know more about this as well - any homers able to chime in? Hixon is out there in a number of leagues. Steve Smith may be available. Toomer actually just came available in one of mine, and may be targeted in others....what's the play here?

personally I grabbed Steve Smith in a PPR league to cover for Plax. FBG cheatsheet has hixon listed alot higher. I've never noticed him on the field though

I've noticed Steve Smith more than Hixon I have to admit. Any body else want to chime in here?

Hixon is the primary backup at Plaxico's position while Smith has been working out of the slot.

I think it remains to be seen who Eli will throw to more.

Think Fred Biletnikoff, but black.

Give me a break. He couldn't keep his feet in bounds on the fades in training camp (as mentioned by the local beats), so they drilled him on it all week and then tested him with Plax's routes against the Browns in preseason. He performed brilliantly, but the Browns also looked like they showed up drunk for that game. Hixon is a hard worker and a real asset to the Giants, but he is probably the 6th most talented receiver on the Giants' roster. Just ahead of Tyree.

I like Boss, the Giants RB's, and the D against the Hawks. Folks picking up Hixon and expecting greatness are in for a letdown.

 Around 1990, at the height of the Montana-Young debate in SF, Rice went on record in support of Montana and critical of Young on the grounds that the rotation of Young's passes were backwards because he was a lefty. I've never forgotten that one. :lmao:

The higher power allows me to judge, just not to sentence.
