Player Spotlight: Kenny Watson (1 Viewer)

2008 Player Spotlight Series

One of Footballguys best assets is our message board community. The Shark Pool is, in our view, the best place on the internet to discuss, debate and analyze all things fantasy football. In what's become an annual tradition, the Player Spotlight series is a key part of the preseason efforts. As many of you know, we consider the Player Spotlight threads the permanent record for analyzing the fantasy prospects of the player in question. Last year, we published more than 140 offensive spotlights covering the vast majority of expected skill position starters. This year will be no different.

Each week we will post a list of players to be discussed. Those threads will remain open for the entire preseason, and should be a central point to discussion expectations for the player in question. Importantly, analysis done in the first week of posting will be part of the permanent record in two ways. 1) At the end of the week, we will tally the projections into a consensus. 2) We will select a number of pull quotes from forum contributors who make a compelling statement or observation. Both the projections and pull quotes will be part of a published article on the main website.

Thread Topic: Kenny Watson, RB, Cincinnati Bengals

Player Page Link: Kenny Watson Player Page

Each article will include:

Detailed viewpoint from a Footballguys staff member
Highlighted member commentary from the message board threads
FBG Projections
Consensus Member ProjectionsThe Rules

In order for this thread to provide maximum value, we ask that you follow a few simple guidelines:

Focus commentary on the player in question, and your expectations for said player
Back up your expectations in whatever manner you deem appropriate; avoid posts that simply say "I hate him" or "He's the best"
To be included in the final synopsis and consensus outlook, you MUST provide projections for the playerProjections should include (at a minimum):

For QBs: Passing Yards, Passing TDs, Ints, Rush Yards, Rush TDs
For RBs: Rushes, Rushing Yards, Rush TDs, Receptions, Receiving Yards, Receiving TDs
For WRs & TEs: Receptions, Receiving Yards, Receiving TDsNow let's get on with the conversation! We look forward to your contributions and let me offer a personal thanks in anticipation of the great debate and analysis.

tremendous value in PPR leagues..

Watson might become the starting RB if Perry falters again, and/or if Rudi looks old and slow like he did last season..at worst, he shares time with Perry, at best, he's the #1 RB in Cincy..

my $$ is on Watson taking on the role as last season, as a backup to either PErry or Rudi, with potential for a lot more!

way offfirst, if Perry falters again? Perry has never faltered because he has never played. i have no faith in Perry staying on the field. if, by some minor miracle, he does, then he's at most a 3rd down back. Perry is better geared as a special teams player at this point until he shows if he can do anything.

i think if Rudi looks old and slow again, he'll split carries with Watson. i think that its Rudi's job to lose though. i expect watson to have about 100-125 carries to the tune of 500 yards and 2 TDs - assuming Rudi at least keeps it to a RBBC. (and I suspect it's Rudi's year to return to normal. we are all so quick to forget he was a late first rounder last year and with good reason. while he looked bad last year, he likely also was never healthy.)

Perry has played and when he has, he's done well. If he's healthy Watson's receptions go down significantly. Rudi is back to his old self and is the starter. Watson and Perry will get the leftover carries and there won't be many to go around. Watson

50 - 280 - 1

20 - 200 - 0

Have to admit he looked pretty good last year. Was a good play in PPR leagues while filling in.

If Rudi stays healthy and the Bengals pound the ball with him I don't see much good out of Watson. But, if Rudi gets injured or the Bengals get Watson more involved he should be worth a look. Perry and Irons will not be factors once again. (Still can't believe the Bengals are holding onto Perry.)

Hold your breath. I'm not buying that 2.9 YPC as a one-time thing. Actually the more I think about it, the more I think this is RBBC hell.

At his current ADP, Watson is a MUST OWN in PPR.

THis isn't the type of player you draft based on a projection, but on upside.

I don't think he realized he was just a bowling ball, so he lost a bunch of mass so he could be quicker and dance around. He also had a bad hamstring all year. Now he's healthy and put all his muscle back on so he can go back to pounding it. It was a dumb idea, he realized it and fixed it.

Sounds nice. But still not buying "Rudi is back." Maybe, but I'll let someone else find out...unless he goes really cheap...

Here's a guy I've always rooted for yet never figured out why he's not starting. Outproduced Ladell Betts in WAS when Stephen Davis went down with injury, but didn't get his chance the following year as he was cut and signed by CIN. Filled in admirably when Rudi and Perry have been injured, however that may be the only time he gets significant playing time.

90/320/2 rushing and 28/200/2 receiving. Considerable bump to 250/1100/7 and 45/300/4 should Rudi, Perry, and Irons suffer injuries and Watson becomes the starter.

With the recent Rudi news concerning his hammy and trade talk, where does the forum see Watson in terms of touches per game? Even if Perry is the starter, it is unrealistic to think he will be a workhorse with his injury history. Anyone think Watson could have more value than just a few weeks ago?

Sure he does.Provided Rudi doesnt hang around and get touches, which is entirely possible.

Watson actually takes a small hit in that case.

It'll just be the 3-headed monster with Perry and Rudi flippin'. Initially at least.

If its just Perry and Watson - you can pencil Watson in for 7-15 touches every game.

And Watson is just as open to goalline touches as Perry (unlike with Rudi) as long as its within his touch framework.

:towelwave: I agree 100%
The only upside on Watson is if Perry gets injured if not your talking back up .We have seen that before a pedestrian veteran back up gets in for a injured player and plays well but he will keep being a good veteran back up.Like i said the only upside would be a injury to Perry.

I like those odds.
