Playoff Seeding Help (1 Viewer)

I am co-commishioner for a CBS league.  It is a 10 team league where 6 teams make the playoffs with 2 teams having byes.  The CBS website does not automatically create the brackets like Yahoo does so last week the co-commish created the brackets so that 3-6 played and 4-5 played.  4 beat 5 and 6 beat 3.  I think that 1 should be playing 4 and 2 should be playing 6 but the co-commish just set it up so 1 is playing 6 and 2 is playing 4.  He is using NFL rules but every fantasy site I have seen does not do this.  We do not have league bylaws in place stating how we handle this.

My question is how does your league handle this?

websites are notorious for liking a straight bracket format if you leave it up to the site to create your playoff bracket......number one should always get to play the lowest advancing seed....thats the benefit of being number one and not number 2....your other co commish did it right....

According to your explanation, your league is using the same system as the NFL, and the co-commissioner set it up right. Our rules lay out very specifically that we employ a floating seed playoff system, just like the NFL. The top seed plays the lowest remaining seed after the first round of the playoffs are complete. If you want it be "like the NFL", #1 should be playing #6 in this scenario, and #2 should be playing #4.

Why wouldn't you have figured this out as one of the commissioners before week 14 started?  That's especially bad if you or the other commissioner are in the playoffs and it impacts who you play.  You can't be making up rules/changes as you go.

if you don't let 1 play 6, what was the advantage of finishing 1 instead of 2....?......it actually works against the 1 seed if you do it your way and not the other co commish's way...

this is really one of the core things in FF 101....

In my leagues and in my opinion the higher seed should get the lowest seed that advances, so your co-commissioner is right (imo).

Also CBS does do this is you choose "yes" where it says Automatically Set My Playoff Matchups in the Schedule and Playoff Matchups settings.

The right way

1 would play 6 and 2 would play 4.

ESPN is just a straight bracket... which always irked me.  So in the league i commish i made a rule the #1 seed gets to pick his opponent out of the 2 winners from week 1 of the playoff.  I did this because whether it be straight bracket or a re-seed both of those methods you could end up with the #1 seed having what would appear to be the more difficult matchup... so this way the #1 seed gets to choose their destiny (they cant choose the #2 seed as the opponent). It works well and i feel it properly provides a minor reward for finishing the 1 seed. we've been doing it this way for 5-6 years now and the #1 seed choice hasnt ended up mattering for the #1 seed yet..

I finished first in a league that uses this same format, and I woke up this morning to find that I'm apparently playing the #4 seed, with #2 playing #6. That seems weird to me, although if it's how the site works then there's not much I can do.

But yeah, if there's an option to tailor it, your commish did it right.
