Playoff WW KICKER to have is..... (1 Viewer)

Just start any reasonable kicker in ok weather playing against the following teams:

32 made FGs by opponents:

Panthers

Ravens

29 made FGs by opponents:

Dolphins

Jags

Raiders

Week 15 Breakdown:

Panthers @ Chargers

Broncos @ Ravens

Dolphins @ Jags (Jags kicking game with Scobee sucks)

Chiefs @ Raiders

For waiver wire quality kickers, based on the Chiefs being #8 in field goals attempted, and the Raiders being a top 5 FG victim (also playing the game in warm weather), Ryan Succop looks to be my WW play this week for double digit kicker scoring. He already put up 11 against the Raiders this year, and 10 against Carolina, so the prediction model looks good.

Dan Carpenter for the Dolphins also looks like an interesting warm weather play, but his floor is lower to me than Succop. If Oakland weather turns sour, I'll look to Carpenter.

Week 16 Breakdown:

Raiders @ Panthers

Ravens @ Giants

Dolphins @ Buffalo

Pats @ Jags

For pure waiver wire kickers, Rian Lindell looks to be my week 16 start, provided the weather cooperates. He put up a double digit week against Miami already, and against the Jaguars, so the prediction model looks sound.

Graham Gano for Carolina certainly has a very good chance to score well (much better than Medlock), and I'll look to Gano if the Buffalo weather is bad.

Hope these thoughts help!

going with carpenter. at home the next two weeks vs. jags and bills. lets do this dan!
Next week against the Jags is fine, but playing Carpenter aginst the Bills the following week makes no sense at all. The Bills have allowed the fewest FGs in the NFL at just 14 total for the year, two fewer than any other team. I would certainly not play any kicker against the team that allows the most TDs in the entire league (Bills have allowed 43 TDs, tied for most allowed), unless I needed just two points to win the game.

Hmmm, didn't know that about Buffalo. Still like Carpenter. He will even the Bills out.

You have the Dolphins on the road for their matchups; both are at home. Which also means your weather concerns for Lindell are probably moot; the game is in Miami.

Thanks for catching that. I think I've been burnt more by changing kickers due to theoretical weather concerns than just letting them play, so unless there's a blizzard I'm not likely changing anything!

No prob. And if you're thinking about Lindell this week, their "home" game is in Toronto.

Good stuff. What are your thoughts on Dawson or Forbath? Redskins have been involved in some high scoring games lately.

Josh Brown isn't a bad pickup for this week and maybe beyond. Big leg, good offense and coming off huge game in Week 14. Nugent didn't practice yesterday so he's probably out this week for sure.
 Picked him as Nugent is listed as doubtful. Weather is going to be perfect, mild and 3 mph winds forecast. Bengals are going to get plenty of opportunities to score. If Nugent is a go, my fall back is Carpenter.

What does a team do to make them more or less likely to give up filed goals over the course of a season?

Is it just random? Is it a scheme thing?

Just wondering...

Someone who plays indoors for the fantasy playoffs. Weather can wreak havoc on kickers in December. Wind, snow, rain. It can get brutal.

Good stuff. But I think FG Attempts is a more accurate stat to use. A few teams have been lucky to face poor kicking, like Miami and Detroit (9 missed field goals for each), while other teams have been relatively unlucky, like Carolina (only 2 missed field goals all season) and Baltimore (1 missed field goal).

By FG Attempts allowed:

32) Dolphins - 2.9 per game

31) Jacksonville - 2.8 per game

30) Detroit - 2.6 per game

29) Oakland - 2.6 per game

28) Carolina - 2.6 per game

Imporatant to check out the weather for this weekend. http://www.nflweather.com/Tonight's game is the only one that is looking clear and perfect outdoor conditions (other than dome games). Take your shot tonight with Brown or Henery or you could be left looking at only dome kickers or that Miami game. The weather looks worse as Sunday progresses to nightfall with snow likely in New England.

Just a quick word of caution Josh Brown...

The Bengals are 10th in the league in FGs attempted per game at 2.1, and have attempted 3.0 per game over their last 3 - which is the good news.

BUT, the Eagles are 12th in the league in fewest FGs attempted against at only 1.7 per game, with only 1.0 per game over their last 3...

Do with this what you will...

After looking at all this, I'm personally leaning Succop for this week...

Chiefs average 2.2 FG attempts per game on the season - 7th in the league.

On the road, the Chiefs average 2.5 FG attempts per game - tied for 5th in the league.

The Raiders allow 2.6 FGs per game on the season - tied for 3rd worst in the league.

At home, the Raiders allow 2.7 FGs per game - good for 5th worst in the league.

Weather for Oakland is in the mid-upper 50s with a 30% chance of a shower, and while Bowe is out, Baldwin *should* step in, and they still have Charles against a completely inept Raiders run D.

I'm starting Brown and am a little concerned the Bengals score TDs all night which they've done before in easier matchups. But I think they'll move the ball with relative ease and Brown has a stronger leg than Nugent so hopefully that combination will result in at least one long FG tonight. If the Eagles' defense magically comes to play tonight that could open the door some more FG chances for Brown. Really though all he needs is one 40 or 50-yard FG in my league's scoring tonight and he should come through nicely. If he goes off like he did last week all the better.

I am wondering if/when FBG's is going to start some pinned threads to pick up Thursday Nights questionables. Specifically looking for confirmation of Josh Brown starting tonight over Nugent. Any news on this appreciated!

Interesting. I've got Carpenter going this week. Curious to see the teams with the MOST FG attempts allowed.??

Those teams above allow the most FG attempts per game. Carpenter is thus in a good situation facing a Jacksonville team that allows the second most FGs per game in the league.

i didn't have all those stats but i picked up Succop too and i'm playing him. :football:

Kicker Mike Nugent (right calf) isn't expected to go, but rehab trainer Nick Cosgray checked on his pre-game field goals that he tried while using a metal holder. He looked free and easy kicking from about 32 yards, but Josh Brown was expected to go Thursday…

Herman's got Josh Brown ranked as #4 this week. I have Tynes though so I don't think I want to risk it.

Yeah and Dodds still has Nugent in the rankings...
lmfao I saw the same thing, I was going up and down the list searching for Brown and wasn't seeing it, thought I was going nuts.
And still no pinned threads for any questionable players in a game a little over an hour away. Thx guys for the updates on Josh Brown. I'm counting on him and the Cincy Def to be quite a pair.
yes Nugent is doubtful, DNP yesterday.

I always figured it has to do with defensive scheme. Limiting your opponent to FGs is practically the goal of a bend-but-don't-break defensive philosophy. But that might be too cute an explanation. I'd love to see if there is a trend in the data.

I have both Tucker and Bailey and am going with Bailey mostly for weather reasons the next 2 weeks. Want a kicker in a dome if rain/wind could be a factor.

I dropped Graham for Barth, so I fully expect that to backfire.
Excellent - I dropped Gould to snag Graham.
I dropped Barth to pickup Graham. I like both of Graham's home cooking dome potential opportunities. I also thought a shootout in NO this week might not mean many Field Goals opportunities for Barth. We'll have to see who it backfires on.

There was a lot of luck involved but I'll take Graham's 18 fantasy points over Barth's 0 any day. It appears I would have won my game even with Barth as my Kicker however but the funny thing is my opponent picked up Barth after I dropped him

Teams that don't give up huge plays might be it. Soft zones that eventually creep in as the field gets smaller behind them?

Awesome job by Succop and the Chiefs to post a zero for me. Best part is, I dropped Barth earlier in the week to speculate on a FA, then dropped the FA for Succop... so it definitely wouldn't have mattered. Ugh.
