Please HELP....MY IDP's SUCK (1 Viewer)

RUN HARD

Footballguy
This is a 16 team dynasty league. To say I drafted IDP's LATE is an understatement. I know my IDP's suck....I am looking for feedback on who to keep and who to cut. If there are guys that are terrible and should not be on my roster let me know. I appreciate all feedback. I am very inexperienced on IDP's.

Thanks

We start 3 DL + 4 LB + 4 DB

Scoring:

All return yards are .05 per yard (1 pt per 20)....huge for DB's.

DEF TD = 6 pts

Sacks = 3 pts

Tackles = 1.5 pts

Assist = 0.75 pts

Safety = 2 pts

INT = 3pts

Forced Fumbles = 2 pts

Fumble recovery = 2 pts

BLOCK FG/PT = 2 pts

DL

Cornelius Griifin

Marques Douglass

Griffin---is he worth keeping?

LB

David Thorton

Eric Barton

Peter Sirmon

Kamerion Wimbley

Derrick Johnson

Keyaron Fox

Lavar Arrington

Abdul Hodge

Pat Thomas

David Pollack

Ted Lehman

Greg Ellis

Please rank my LB's. I need to start 4...Who are the TOP 4? Would you keep #5 & #6????

DB

Oshiomogho Atogwe

Mike Minter

Adam (PacMan) Jones

Bryant McFadden

Shawn Springs

Brian Dawkins

Please rank these guys in order.

My first inclination is to say no he isn't worth keeping, but you may need those steady 3 points per game. But, this is a 16 team league and the wire might be barren. If you need some other starters to round out the lineup look at Ian Scott, Israel Idonije, or Alphonso Boone on the bears. They will all be playing a lot with nothing to play for and all the starters out.

D. JohnsonThorntonWimbleyBartonSirmonI put Sirmon and Barton together, and you should use your best judegement here. Wimbley might be a bench too and you could play both of the other two. Wimbley could be big though too with more potentioal for the big play.Pollack, Ellis, Arrington are hurt so they are out. Lehman is just too inconsistent but you will probably want to hang onto him and hope he wins a gig next year. Hodge is a keeper, he could be very good if GB rearranges their starters. Thomas is a project.

Its hard to tell with 16 teams but I might be inclined to drop griffin.

I would keep the following LBs:

derrick johnson

abdul hodge

kameron wimbley

david thornton

eric barton

maybe sirmon & arrington

I would keep all your DBs if you have space. If you have to cut one I guess it would be one of minter, mcfadden, or springs but not sure which I would cut.

Welcome to the Forum. My thoughts are sprinkled in your post.

Need to evaluate relative value in your scoring system first. Scoring system values tackles significantly over big plays (sacks, INT). You need to be looking for DE who'll support the run, LB who are continually in a position to make tackles, and in-the-box safeties. A cornerback who doesn't tackle and doesn't return has no value in a system without points for PD. A solid run stopping, tackling DT may have more value as a player like Alex Brown. Take a hard look at what your scoring system does to each IDP position. In a 16 team league, any advantage you get at the LB3-4 and DB3-4 spots is magnified greatly.

Cornelius Griifin

Marques Douglass

Griffin---is he worth keeping?

You probably should keep both of these guys. Douglas is a perfect example of the player that has increased value in your scoring system relative to others that award more points for sacks. Douglas is 27th in a representative "standard" scoring league, but I'll bet he's much closer to Will Smith in your system (who is 16th in the standard scoring system). Griffin is aging, frequently injured, and may give way in three-technique tackle role to Kedric Golston next season. You should be looking to improve both spots here.

Greg Ellis, Kamerion Wimbley, Lavar Arrington, and David Pollack are the kinds of guys you let others roster in this league. The poor sack value makes these players marginal LB3-4 starters, even in a 16 team league. I've no problem with rostering a guy like Ellis or Wimbley to use against a primo matchup, but they're very unlikely to be an every week starter. Arrington and Pollack are all but done, Ellis has a tough rehab ahead and is likely to lose some of his explosiveness. Wimbley is worth keeping on the roster for matchup purposes. Sirmon is unlikely to have a job next year and probably ends up elsewhere as a ST type guy in 2007. Teddy Lehman is a tease, he probably stays rostered with teams this deep, but his injury history is ridiculous. Pat Thomas is unlikely to force his way into a meaningful role in 2007 with Peterson, Smith, and now Ingram established in JAX. Derrick Johnson is huge. You may get lucky if Keyaron Fox can force his way into the middle over Kawika Mitchell next year. If he plays on the weak side, he'll probably steal some value from DJ. Hodge is a must keep; he's the future MLB in GB. Barton and Thornton are nice steady back end vets who fill out LB3-4 spots well. They are safe plays every week and have LB2 upside. That should continue next year.

For 2007, you're probably starting DJ, Barton, and Thornton with Wimbley in some matchups and hopefully Fox and Hodge in the mix too.

DB

Oshiomogho Atogwe

Mike Minter

Adam (PacMan) Jones

Bryant McFadden

Shawn Springs

Brian Dawkins

Please rank these guys in order.

Jones is a stud in this system as long as he's a returner. Dawkins should be good for at least another season or two. And Atogwe is establishing himself as a solid option, although a healthy WLB and better SS may blunt some of his 2006 value. McFadden and Springs are tough plays in this system. They'll finish in the top 64 but not by much.
The good news is that you'll often be able to improve the IDP side of your roster quickly. While the other owners will be falling over themselves to take shots at guys like Chris Taylor and Demetrius Williams, players like James Anderson or Roman Harper should be there for the taking and are likely to have much higher relative upsides and hit rates. A solid owner in a reasonably competitive league with a solid draft and waiver season may have had a shot at Gerald Hayes, DeMeco Ryans, Ernie Sims, Trent Cole, Tamba Hali, OJ Atogwe, Yeremiah Bell, Keith Lewis, and Cedric Griffin among many others. You only need to hit on one or two to greatly improve your defense and if they turn into multi-season gems you're really ahead of the game.

You might do a search for threads started in the past two months on dynasty linebackers and the like. You might find some still on the wire in your deep league. And it's worth going through the FAQ above. There's a lot of general information from some very good posters on this board to get you coached up for next year. And stick around in the offseason. This place is nails in the offseason.

I have a 3 yr plan. I drafted offense very hard. My offense is set except WR3. As you said these guys will be fighting over Offense will I will be going after DEFENSE.

QB:

T Brady

J Cutler

K Clemmens

M Schuab

B Gradkowski

T Rattay

RB:

J Addai

L Maroney

C Williams

C Perry

M Smith

+ Rookie Adrian Peterson (I have the #1 pick)

WR:

A Johnson

D Branch

C Jackson

A Battle

T Williamson

M Floyd

J Cribbs

T Wilson

A Hakim

TE

C Cooley

T Sheffler

C Baker

PK

J Feeley

M Nugent

D Rayner

M Gramatica

You need to move one of the PK's in a deal, unless you can it's a start 2 or more league.

You'll be better served with a prospect anywhere else. You only have quality depth at PK & RB.

Yeah, Im not a huge fan of your WRs. Are RBs overvalued in this league? Can you start 3?

Good job getting rid of the surplus PK. Use those "found" depth chart spots at PK for talent possibilites at WR or DB.
