Please list your top 5 TEs in order (1 Viewer)

 Watson may not make my top 10. Over Shockey, Miller, etc? I reallllly doubt it. NE is notorious for spreading it around.

Don't you watch ESPN and get your FF strategy from them? Rule #10 - Don't draft Tony Gonzalez!(Yes, I'm kidding about ESPN, but I do happen to believe TG won't be top 5 this year.) Watson certainly looked good yesterday, and as the other poster said, if Branch doesn't sign, Watson will be the main target.

W/out Branch, and if Watson can stay healthy, it's hard to envision him NOT being top 5. 2nd preseason game he had 4 catches for 40 in a half of play, last night 8 catches for 97 and a TD in 3 quarters of play, if those targets are any indication he could easily be looking at 70+ catches. Eventhough his career YPC is 14.7, if we give him 70 catches at 12 YPC that's 840 yards. 840 yards and 6 or 7 TDs if Branch is not with the team. And in that case, I think that is his floor.

I think this thread just proves a valuable point regarding TE value. There are upwards of 12 TE's that COULD finish in the top 5 (simliar to the 30 WR's that could finish in the Top 10). You can wait until Round 8-10 (depending when the NEED strikes) and get any one of the 12 and look like a genius to your league mates (without looking like an idiot for picking one earlier and not get the return). Watson IS one of those guys that WILL be there later, so if you like him (which many do) take him.

LJ Smith might just challenge for top five also
:goodposting: This guy knows what he is talking about!
He's always injured though...can't put up numbers when your not playing.

Says the man with Heap at #1? :lmao:GatesCrumpler Shockey LJ Smith Gonzales/Heap/Cooley in a big pile.

Cooley going to have an impact or is going to stay back blocking and playing the HB position too much? Brunell will need someone keeping him upright.

I had two 8th rounders and 3 9ths, took witten and LJ smith in one league. I wont have that luxury in others but I think whoever made the claim that there are 12 TEs this season that could fight for top 5 you are right on.

I personally dont think Gates will be first. I dont think gonzo will either, as I think he scored some extra blocking assignments courtesy of his retiring linemen. All the rest, based upon each unique situation, could be good or bad.

Shockey

Gates

Heap

Watson

McMichael

LJ Smith

GONZO = Odd Man Out

Cooley (in PPR)

The draw about Watson is his value.. in that you can get him in later rounds and have good value (potential huge value) at TE, while using the spots you might have to pick some of those other TEs (4-7 round) on WR or RB depth.

I just finished my first draft and got Watson in round 12 (ten teamer). I was happy with that.

1) Gates

2) Heap

3) Cooley

4) Shockey

5) Crumpler

Cooley is really getting no love here.

The guy is an awesome receiving TE. He is coming off of a 71 reception year with 774 yards and 7 TD's. He did all of that at the very young age of 23. He will be cheaper to get than the other guys and I don't see him regressing very much if at all as he is playing with the same QB in a very TE friendly offense.

I'm rather surprised that nobody is ranking McMichael in their top 5...Why's that ?

How about Winslow if he's healthy ?

I totally forgot CooleyI'd rank him 4th, maybe 3rd, bumping Watson to 6thGatesHeapShockeyCooleyCrumpler
All these players plus McMichael and Gonzalez were gone. I had Watson last year and couldn't let hom blow up on someone else's team this year. I was contemplating LJ Smith who went a couple of picks later in our TE mandatory leagie but chose Watson.

If Watson is in your top 5, let's say #5, and the top 4 TEs are gone, and you take Watson, you are taking him too early most likely.

But I think Watson has just as good of top 5 potential as Witten, Cooley, McMichael, Smith, Gonzo, Crump....which is why he is a great pick when about 10-12 TEs are off the draft board. And if you miss out on him, get Winslow.

I'm telling you right now that Ben Troupe will be a top 5 TE this year. Mark it down.
I'm also surprised there hasn't been more mentioning of Troupe. The team may not be that good again, and could be throwing a ton. Plus, none of Bennett, Givens or the other guys is a true go-to receiver, which could make Troupe that much more of a preferred target for Volek/Young.

Anyone here last year, remember the Troupe love here last year?

I think if ya give Watson Troupe's stats from last year that's reasonable and also meets the hype requirement.

WMI, any improvement and I agree about Troupe. My problem is Kinney and getting further away from Heimerdinger's O. We expect a lot of stats from Titan TEs due to Heimerdinger but it's been a couple years. They have two vet WRs and those 3 rooks from last year that each showed some promise and ...well they've invested alot in the WR position the last two years.

BTW Greg Guenther is a huge. I'd love to see what that guy can do if he was on another team not so deep at TE. I hope he gets cut, selfishly, but he'll probably stick around and get a handful of catches again.

Depending on your scoring system...

Gates

---

Heap

Shockey

Gonzalez

Crumpler

---

Witten

McMichael

Cooley

Watson

Troupe

LJ Smith

Miller

---

Winslow

Wiggins

Davis

A Smith

Stevens

Clark

You can make your case for a few tieirings... grab Gates early (if your league requires a TE and has a premium for it)... if not - wait and wait and wait - plug your other roster holes and grab a combo of Troupe/Miller or Smith/Winslow or else later on and play the matchups - with the Ultimate SOS adjusted for TEs points USOSforTEs...

My 2 cents

PPR:

A Gates

R McMichael

T Heap

J Shockey

T Gonzalez

C Cooley

B Watson

J Witten

LJ Smith

J Wiggins

Non PPR:

A Gates

R McMichael

J Shockey

T Heap

B Watson

T Gonzalez

A Crumpler

C Cooley

H Miller

J Witten

PSI think Watson has a great chance to break the top 5 this year, even if Branch returns.
Logic would say that he has a better chance of making the top 5 WITH Branch in the lineup, deflecting some of the coverage.Tom
I do not think that is true. Gates, Gonzo, Heap, Crumpler all have showed in previous years that being the best receiver on a team as a TE can mean big fantasy numbers.

:goodposting: I'm considering Watson, Troupe and Winslow in that order as nice late round value. Unfortunately, in my 10 teamer yesterday, I landed none of them. I had Heap fall to me in the 6th, so I snagged him there, and Troupe went in the 15th, Watson in the 14th. So that is my lesson for my next three not to snooze, because I think getting both of them will put me in a position to have a top 5 TE. Maybe not both, but one should crack the elite. As a sidebar, why exactly is everyone so high on LJ? Always looked like a nice player to me, but ahead of Shockey? Is it simply the reciever hole in Philly?

I think so. Plus, a healthy McNabb will throw alot of TDs - I dont see Reggie Brown and WR2 (whoever that turns out to be) getting a ton of TDs, so they have to go somewhere. If McNabb throws in the neighborhood of 22-26 TDs, where are they gonna go?? WR1 could get 6-7, wr2 maybe 4 or 5, Westy will get a few, and that still leaves anywhere from 6-12+ to go elsewhere. I like LJs chances to get 6+ of them.

Ben Watson will be the #1 TE in the league this year, and it won't even be that close.

1. Watson

2. Shockey

3. Miller

4. Witten

5. Gates
