Poison Pills in RFA contracts (1 Viewer)

Verbal Kint

Clauses like the one the Vikes put in Hutchinson's contract where if he plays more than 2 games in Seattle he gets a $100 million bonus. As much as I get a good :ptts: , I can't imagine that is what the NFL intended. Is there anything they can do to stop it.

That is not in Hutchinson's contract. It is similar to the clause that Seattle put in Nate Burleson's contract.

Nope. They tried to work out a deal with the Players Union to get rid of it but they couldn't come to an agreement. So not only are teams allowed to use it, but they really don't even have a choice. If they don't use it now the Players Union is going to scream collusion amongst the owners. The NFL isn't happy about it but it's their own fault.

Basically RFA just got reduced to teams using the second highest tender which requires a first and third round pick in compensation. Basically no teams are going to be willing to pay that much.

 Right now it helps player movement and many players are now tendered at higher levels. Basically the players union wanted something in return for agreeing to get rid of this loophole.
