Poor sportsmanship to accept this trade now? (1 Viewer)

I was offered a trade - a WR for a RB. Neither had spectacular days today, but the ceiling clearly is much higher now for the WR I was to receive.

The WR owner sent me the formal trade proposal on Thursday. He wanted to complete the trade by Thursday midnight so he could play the RB I was to send him (he was desperate for a RB after losing Grant).

I sent him a text saying I couldn't do the trade Thursday night because one of my RBs is injury prone. Well, I never officially cancelled on the site we use so the trade proposal is still there. After week 2 results, I certainly would do the trade but I don't think he would.

On top of that, he is commissioner and the only way a trade can be vetoed is by the commissioner.

1. Is it against the spirit of the game to accept this trade now without telling him first or should I text him first telling him I still want to do it? Is it his fault he never cancelled the trade whether he would still do it or not?

2. If I do accept the trade and he vetos it only because he can as commissioner, is that even worse?

if you said no and the kid said he wanted the answer by thursday then clearly you can't take that trade.

 
Give him 24 hours to revoke the offer, then accept it.

Having said that, neither player is terribly valuable and the trade is far from unfair for either side.

 
Definitely would be poor sportsmanship. Unless this is a ruthless money league you should give the guy a heads up and ask if he's still interested if you want to avoid the #### move, imo.

:mellow: Mail him and ask if he is still interested in doing the trade before accepting anything.And then send a mail to your league pointing this out as an example of why the website should only be used to finalize trades and never to negotiate them. Because some people wouldn't show the sportsmanship that you are and might try to take advantage of a mistake.

Always do the right thing.

Ask if he still wants to do the trade.

If not, cancel it.

 
Don't even ask him. Cancel it, then re-offer the same trade right away. If he accepts the offer then you're good to go.

See post above about why offering trades on the website is a bad idea. Email him and when both sides agree on the details of the trade, THEN go to the website to finalize it.That way you're never in the situation of someone being able to accept a trade you no longer would agree to.
 
Its an owner's responsibility to manage his roster, his transactions, and his trade offers.

Its still an open offer -- click accept.

Although I don't really see the huge change in value for either of those guys after today, as you seem to?

Of course its poor sportmanship and you know it. That is why you asked the question hoping that someone would tell you its OK. Just ask if he still wants the trade, if not cancel. If you wanted to accept the trade as is you would have done it already.

 
Poor sportsmanship? Of course. You suspect he doesn't want to do the trade anymore, otherwise you would have never made this thread.

Sportsmanship isn't a requirement in FF though. Everyone plays differently.

If you're a sportsmanlike player, email him and make sure he still likes the trade.

If you're not, accept the trade then make another thread here later when karma bites you in the ###. :)

No, I don't know it. That's why I asked. Maybe someone had a similar situation or will have a similar situation.For all I know, he didn't cancel it hoping I would still accept it. It's not like he mistakenly sent me a proposal, called me saying he was away from the computer and couldn't cancel it, then I go accept it before he got home in time. He has had four days to cancel it if he really didn't want to do it anymore.

If you really want to know the answer to your question, why don't you just ask the owner who offered the trade?Since the other owner clearly wanted to have the trade completed by Thursday as you said, you bring the question to the shark pool instead of to the person whom you should be directing it. If you weren't concerned that he wouldn't want to make the deal now I'm pretty certain you would have asked him already instead of coming here.If you didn't know the correct answer before (difficult to believe), I hope you do now. This isn't rocket science... just ask the guy.

If the trade is still left out there, then it is acceptable. If he wanted to take the trade off the table, he should have canceled the offer.

I do agree with the previous poster though, if you want to know the guy's intentions, the easiest thing is probably to ask him instead of us.

The only way this is poor sportsmanship is if the offerer of the trade is away from the computer and was incapable of cancelling the trade offer himself. Otherwise, it is his responsibility to cancel the trade when he wants to take the offer off the table.

 
Leaving out the sportsmanship equation, what happened to Felix today that would make you say that? As far as I know, he's not injured. Dallas' offense might not be the best in the NFL, but its only going to get better as the season goes on I would think (at least based on the production so far).

Trading Felix for Wallace if its still on the table is fair pretty much anyway you look at it.

 
This is one reason I like MFL's system where you can put a date to automatically revoke the offer.

But the best answer here is to simply ask the guy or re-offer on the site. He wanted the deal for this week, you already rejected it.

 
Honestly, anyone that has to ask on this one, doesn't give a rat's ### about sportsmanship. Just do it and suffer the consequences if any. Don't be weak about it and look for validation here.

 
You should certainly let him know he left the offer open and see if he is still interested. I know a lot of people around here are throwing out the word sportsmanship but if that word does not get you how about the idea that in the future you guys may have a need to trade with each other again. Don't burn bridges with league mates.

 
If you had to ask in here then I think you know its probably not a good idea.. Just cancel it yourself and reoffer it to him. If he still wants it he'll accept

His propensity to do the right thing shouldn't have an impact on your decision to do the right thing. Take the high road - be the man that he should wanna be. And besides - didn't ur momma ever tell u that 2 wrongs dont make a right, lol.
 
cripes. I can't believe you're thinking of accepting it. You already rejected it... just because he hasn't gone out to revoke it doesn't mean u should still take it.
