Portable music device for streaming. I DO NOT NEED HEADPHONES. I need a new streaming device. The red zone is for immediate unloading and loading…. (1 Viewer)

I have (wired) headphones in my ears more than I don’t at this point. I wear them to bed, working out, walking the dog, watering the garden, etc.

I’m looking for something to replace my iPhone as my main streaming device. It's heavy and eventually the charging/headphone jacks wear out. It also gets my phone dirty.

Wants:
-Can stream directly from WiFi (I’d prefer not to have to preload the device)
-Small/lightweight
-Durable

Dealbreaker:
MUST have a headphone jack or adapter to use WIRED headphones.

Thanks in advance.

ETA - no the white zone is for unloading and loading of passengers. The red zone is for Parking.

AirPods/wireless headphones?

I dont like the wireless ones. I have to charge them, which is a inconvenience since I use them so much. Because I also use them when working with tooks or outdoors, those get dirty.

I like cheap replaceable wired headsets. Its a hill that I will die on if need be.

Yeah the charging is annoying but I have 2 pairs so I’m usually always good. It’s so nice not having the wire in my way when I’m working out, washing dishes, doing stuff around the house. I had the wired ones before and would constantly accidentally hit the wire with my arm and knock it out or even worse catch it so it tugged my ear pretty hard which would hurt a bit. I would never ever go back to wired headphones for regular use.

I hear ya, but again, cheap and disposable. I run the cord under my shirt so its not an issue.

The headphones arent my problem. I need a device.

It will likely be the hill you die on, as the entire ecosystem is moving away from wired. What @Ilov80s posted is the most viable option to continue using wired headphones, and what he also posted about wires getting in the way is very true.
My kid is in the trades and uses these Ankers, and loves them. They are built for getting dirty, last all day long, and charge quickly.

No such devices are being made anymore; phones handle that function, so the market no longer exists.

I was hoping for real world examples but I guess thats not a thing anymore. Dead internet theory is almost here.

Don’t those devices need to be charged?

Yea but the battery life is usually longer than headphones plus again- I can replace broken/lost/dirty wired headphones for almost nothing.

Do you have stock in wireless headphone technology!?!?!?

Username does NOT check out!!!!! ;)
He gave you the solution, which is to use the phone with a dongle for wired headphones.

I don’t want to carry my phone around. I covered this in the OP.

I feel like I’m being a jerk here, but you clearly didn’t read…..anything.

Isn't the cord catching on things as you work and getting in the way?

Not at all. It goes from my pocket, up my back and out through the collar. Perfect!

Your requirements are so specific and apparently inflexible that your options are limited. They're your requirements so not saying you are wrong or judging but there's a reason you aren't getting good responses (from your perspective) and it's not that folks aren't knowledgeable or helpful.

For what it's worth, I would go with the cheap bluetooth headphone option and then if the phone is too heavy to carry in your pants use a Flipbelt or something similar.

ETA:
$30 headphones

$40 flipbelt

$70 dollars I imagine will be cheaper than anything you can find and is much cheaper than all the options you listed above.

My requirements are so specific?

I have exactly 1 requirement. That it has a headphone jack. That’s it!!! :lmao:

If you all need is the jack, why not just buy a $5 jack adapter? I’ve got one of those when I want to plug in some good wired headphones.

My only concern for something like this is when I’m in places that don’t have wi-fi but you could probably save a large enough number of songs through Spotify that it’s not an issue. I have hours and hours of stuff saved from Spotify on my phone for when I fly.

THAT’S NOT A REQUIREMENT!!!1!

How about a used smart phone?
I have a 12 year old Samsung S4 that I use for mowing and farting around in the garage. It has wifi for streaming, headphone jack and an SD card so you can download a crap ton of stuff for off line listening. I use it to play Spotify for a Bluetooth speaker out on the porch. It only has a 5 inch screen so it's pretty small and easy to pocket around (and lose if one's prone to forget... pretty much everything)
