Portis characters (1 Viewer)

From ESPN:

Portis keeps teammates loose, and his eccentric outfits played a

part. In Week 8, "Southeast Jerome" appeared, with a black cape,

shaggy black wig, Lone Ranger mask and fake gold teeth. Two weeks

later, Portis introduced the world to "Sheriff Gonna Getcha,"

wearing big glasses and a sheriff's star and announcing he was

investigating the disappearance of "Southeast Jerome." Other

personas included "Dolla Bill" (lime-colored leisure suit,

purple-spiked wig), "Rev. Gonna Change" (black-and-white wig,

red-and-black tie), and "Bro Sweets" (yellow wig, heart-shaped

sunglasses).

I do wonder what it would be like to roll around in that guy's head for a day . . .
 Definitely one of the most interesting guys in sports. The best thing is that I think much of it isn't schtick. The commercial on NFL Network where he talks at the end is classic. "You can even call me Kid Bro Sweets if the mood so strikes you..."Sounds like the note Nicholas Cage left in Raising Arizona. "I shall not tarry..."J

Kid Bro Sweets is maybe my favorite. He came out to practice that day in character and handed out candy to all of the offensive linemen in the huddle.

"100 Pennies, 4 Quarters, 10 Dimes, 20 Nickels. That's Dolla Bill." "You can join the team if you know what I mean."

:D

The funny thing about his characters is that he came out one week with a weird hat and outrageously huge sunglasses and people laughed. But, it wasn't a costume. It was just Portis wearing what he wears. The attention he got from wearing his normal stuff is what led to his costumes and characters.

He can also be seen front row at Wizards games wearing some crazy outfits.

Yeah, he's definitely a free spirit. What made me cringe at first was my concern last year that his characters would provide bulletin board material for other teams, but he's done a remarkably good job in avoiding controversy and instead has really just done it for amusement or to make fun of himself.

Agreed redman. What always has me :lmao: on it is the fact he plays for one of the stodgiest coaches in the league. Only thing that would be better is if Tiki Barber did this.He said he did it to take attention off the team when they were struggling and it seems to have worked very well in that regard.J

:lmao: @ Coughlin's reaction to Tiki doing this.

J
So, does this mean he only does it when the team is struggling?

He did it for basically the entire second half of the season last year, during good times and bad.

He says he started it because of that. Then it took off and NFL Network picked it up each week and he kept doing it. J

Too bad those pictures are so small.

This is great stuff though.

The intro to his website is fantastic (the intro when you click "home").

He's baaaaaaaaack!!

CP = Napoleon Dynamite

Portis came dressed up today, fresh off his first 100-yard game of the season and with the team on a two-game winning streak. This time he didn't invent the alter-ego, just barrowed one from cinema.

I'll give him credit, the dude had Napoleon Dynamite down. He had the tight Wranglers on, in some hideous cut from the 80s, and some awful black moon boots. Portis was sporting a ruffled blond wig and some wire-rimmed shades and, for the kicker, had on a t-shirt that said:

VOTE

FOR

SANTANA

It was just like the VOTE FOR PEDRO deal that Nap wore in the movie. Portis spoke with a slight, high voice, just like the character. He dropped a few Uncle Rico bombs during his responses to questions and joked about needing someone to take to the prom. When asked if LaVar might be a fitting date this weekend, Portis/ND said something about LaVar not being a lady, so he had to look elsewhere.

So there you have it. All's well in Redskins Country. We're now back to abnormal on Thursdays, which, well, is really the norm.
Vote for Santana :lmao: edit: Name today: Dolemite Jenkins
