In regards to Betts workload, in regards to how he's feeling, in regards to the weather, Any info would be greatly appreciated...........

Took Portis and Betts yesterday in my local, benching Portis 2day. Want to start him, but got to believe the workload's divided today.

Redskins coach Joe Gibbs admits Ladell Betts is likely to get more touches than Clinton Portis against Miami.Betts, who also plays on third downs, is a decent flex play. Portis is looking riskier, although he will start the game and could get goal-line tries.Source: Washington Post

not sure where this quote was taken from, but its NOT correct. I've listened to several interviews on Redskins.com and Extremeskins.com that say just the opposite.

There is a massive Portis hater that works at the Washington Post. Jason Lacon something. I'd be interested to see if this came from him. The guy has been down on Portis the entire offseason and has been coming up with a lot of unsubstantiated stuff.

Rotoworld's source for this "news" is by that Jason LaCanfora guy. THe only guy who thinks Betts whould get more carries. And here is the exact article they get their source from:

How Many Carries for CP?

If it's me and I am facing this defense in this heat in this game, I am riding Betts. He was the second most productive back in the NFL in the final 7-8 weeks of last season and he's in great shape and worked hard all preseason.

I'd use him as my workhorse and use Clinton to spell him. But Gibbs is married to Portis as his starter, however nominal the title may be - becasue he also admits that Betts will probably rush more times than the "starter" - so, what do you guys think CP can handle?

Do you ease him into the game - especially with a guy like Betts right there - or do you believe that he's the CP of old and can run 20-25 times?

Will be interesting to see.

Thanks for the homer insight. I was not sure if this was coach talk or something like media bias, but I did not believe it.

Can someone change the title of this thread, it was not Gibbs but some Portis hating beat writer who stated these OPINIONS. Ridiculous that this kinda stuff gets put out on gameday right down to the wire.

Personally, and I haven't posted on the subject of Portis this season, I think that Portis is going to have a monster season. It might be slow today, but the next few weeks will win some owners some games.

Just my $.02

He did say throw this in the article:becasue he also admits that Betts will probably rush more times than the "starter" Id like to see his source for that

Portis got most of the carries in week 1 last year despite having suffered that shoulder injury. Just sayin'.

Frankly, Gibbs should split up Portis' carries with Betts as much as possible just to ease Portis back in and try to take a far sighted approach to his workload.

OTOH, this is a tough defense and they need this win IMHO. The rest of the AFC East will be tough.

IMHO, Gibbs will use Portis as much as he thinks he 1) can given Portis' conditioning level and 2) needs to given the game situation. If they're up by double digit points in the 4th quarter, I'd figure you'll see nothing but Betts from that point on.

So there's only one piece of information in that article, and he doesn't attribute a quote or source to it, and it happens to be the only thing quoted in Rotoworld, which in turn makes it the title of this thread? I'm still starting Portis (over Betts, Peterson, and Chester Taylor).

Me too. Figured at worst theyre all in a RBBC anyway. Might as well go with Portis.

Regarding Jason LaCanfora, that information appears to have come from his online blog, as opposed to a regular column. Be careful with that, because JLC uses that blog to speculate and offer his opinion; in other words, this isn't up to journalistic snuff (e.g. confirmed with multiple sources or on the record comments from someone, etc.).

I don't happen to believe that this is part of JLC's tiff with the team, as I don't see how this would further any particular angle. He's guessing, plain and simple.

Here's the link to the quote and yes, as the poster above me mentions, it's from his blog:

Jason La Canfora's Blog

Based on the comments made in this thread about this guy, I'm ignoring him and continuing to start Portis.

Ditto. It's week 1 and I would rather suffice to Betts outplaying Portis on my bench than take a risk and start the WAS RB2 who doesn't outperform the WAS RB1.

So, was Gibbs misquoted?
He was never quoted at all.
 Moreover, Gibbs is borderline paranoid about anyone, ever knowing his game plan. He's not one to make such comments. In fact, he's one of the most evasive, non-committal guys in his press conferences you'll ever listen to. He could teach Belichick and Shanny a few things in that regard, he just has a nicer personality so most people don't think of him that way.

Well, based on all of this, who's starting him?

I know I am. I haven't found anything rock solid except the original comments from Gibbs about his workload. He practiced all week, his comments to the media are positive.

I'll roll with him. He should get the goal lines anyway...

There are two camps when it comes to Portis.

1) On the heels of last season, he did everything in his power to avoid even a sniff of training camp and the preseason. Tendinitis? *wink wink* (Not doubting that he has it, but really how bad is it?). He's fine and ready to go. (I'm in this camp)

2) There are significant concerns about his health and conditioning for the season. He can only run in straight lines, not in football shape, etc. (LaCanfora)

Where's the truth? Probably somewhere in the middle. Betts will get his, no doubt. LaCanfora is firmly entrenched in his position, and has been all offseason. We'll see. I think Portis gets upwards of 15-18 touches.
