I've seen rookie draft (dynasty) threads & redraft threads before, but I don't remember having seen a keeper draft thread before. I searched the topic & didn't find one so I thought this might be an interesting addition to the Shark Pool.
Since keeper leagues vary so much it might be helpful to give a little league history (if necessary), include the scoring, as well as any interesting variances that your league does that others might like to know about, list your keepers, & share your draft.
I'm in 2 keeper leagues (as well as 2 dynasty & a redraft). My main keeper league drafted last Saturday, it's 10 years old now & evolved from a 10 team, 2 QB, online redraft to a live draft, keep 2 in its 2nd year. We're now a 12 team, 16 man, PPR, start 1 QB, 2 RB, 2 WR, 1 TE, 1 RB/WR/TE Flex, 1 K, 1 DEF & we can keep 4 players.
The difference is that every team MUST declare anywhere from 2-4 keeper players, but we've added a layer of strategy. For teams that only keep 2 (or 3) players, there are 2 conditional pick rounds (last to 1st snake) from the free agent pool (including rookies). (For instance, I took a chance by throwing Fred Jackson back into the pool this year instead of making him my 4th keeper in hopes of getting Trent Richardson on the way back. It didn't work so I picked FJax up b/c he was the highest rated RB left.) Every team goes into the draft with 4 keepers, so obviously 48 players are already off the board.
My keepers this year were Calvin Johnson, Larry Fitzgerald, MJD, & Fred Jackson. I had the 1.10 & 2.3 to start off with. After a few mocks I realized that I didn't like any of the players who would be there at my pick & I didn't really want to reach on others. I gambled, made a few moves back, & ended up with 2 2nd rounders, 2 3rd rounders, 2 5th rounders, a 7th, 8th, 9th, 11th, & 2 12ths.
Here's what happened:
2.7- Matt Ryan
2.11- Stevie Johnson
3.2- Willis McGahee
3.6- Reggie Wayne
5.3- Fred Davis
5.10- Matt Schaub
7.2- Pierre Thomas
8.3- Eagles DEF
9.10- Evan Royster
11.10- Bernard Scott
12.3-Doug Baldwin
12.11- Rob Bironas
I think the gamble paid off. I was really happy to get Ryan at the 2.7 (there were only 2 of us who didn't already have QBs, & I took Ryan in front of him). I never expected Johnson, McGahee, or Wayne to make it as long as they did. I regret not being able to get Spiller, Jennings, or Hillman but it just didn't work out. The Eagles DEF were tremendous value where I got them at (I live in Texas so all the Cowboy homers just kept passing them up).
QB- Ryan, Schaub
RB- MJD, FJackson, McGahee, P.Thomas, Royster, Bernard Scott
WR- Megatron, Fitzgerald, Stevie Johnson, Reggie Wayne, Doug Baldwin
TE- Fred Davis
K- Bironas
DEF- Eagles
All in all, I feel really good about it. Here's the link to see how the whole draft went- Draft
Keep in mind that doesn't include the keepers, so here is the rosters page- Rosters
I'm also in a 32 team, PPR, IDP, 8 Keeper, slow online draft league & this is the link to it- NFLFFL
Anybody else want to share their keeper leagues info here?
