Post your highly recommended grocery food items (1 Viewer)

I figured we could start a list of foods that you purchase that you really enjoy and recommend to others. Obviously some will be regional, but still worth posting. I'll start off with a few:

1) Noosa yogurt -- This is, by far, the best yogurt I've ever had. The mango flavor is amazing and is almost like a dessert. The kids love it. It's a great, quick breakfast. And the price isn't outrageous, especially compared to other premium yogurts.

2) Trader Joe's Speculoos Crunchy Cookie Butter -- This thing is just plain delicious. You use it as a spread (or just eat it out of a spoon if you really want). Worth a try if you can get it around you.

3) Argitoni Pecorino Romano Grated Cheese -- I just recently discovered this at Sam's Club. You can get a 32 oz bag for ~$16, which is comparable to most smaller containers of grated cheese. Once again, this cheese is, by far, the tastiest grated cheese I've had. I've introduced it to people who don't even normally use grated cheese on pasta and they've gone on to use this on a regular basis.

I love trying new food items so let's see what we can collectively come up with as a list.

Martin's Potato Rolls for burgers - they are amazing. I hate eating at other people's bbq's, because they always have cheap rolls.

I went to a Belmont party on Saturday and someone brought homemade jerk chicken with a container of honey mustard that was incredible. I asked where he got the honey mustard and he said "Kens, from the grocery store." Yummy.

If you like blue dots and your wife like chocolate, check out jif salted caramel chocolate cream spread (or something). I'm not going to tell you how I know, but I highly recommend it.

I'll add a few of my favorites, some more known than others

Soy Vey Veri Veri Teriyaki marinade --> PHENOMENAL grilling marinade on grilled peppers and onions, and my go-to for pork. Just grill a nice pork loin and baste it with this as you cook...so good.

Black Sweet Soy Sauce --> I usually get this from an Asian grocer. It's different than normal soy sauce in that it's much thicker and sweeter. Sauce makes a good light marinade on steaks, and is good in most types of stir fry as a base.

Smoked Spanish Paprika --> One of my favorite spices. Add some to tacos for a nice smoky kick. Add it on chicken or steak for a mildly different flavor. Excellent lightly sprinkled on white fish like tilapia too.

Kosher Salt --> I prefer this over regular salt when using it on food...especially on the grill.

BIGS Sunflower Seeds - Ranch flavor --> New discovery. Makes mowing the grass a lot more fun. I can ride around with a mouth full of these, spitting shells as I go. Good stuff.

Sweet Baby Ray's BBQ Sauce --> This used to be much more under the radar, but I feel like it's mainstream now. Best bottled BBQ sauce I've found.

Cedar Planks --> Not really food, but if you like Salmon, do yourself a favor and get some. Soak them in water for 1 hour, then cook the salmon skin-on, skin side down, on these with salt and lemon pepper for ~20 minutes on a grill at ~400. So good.

For bottled BBQ Sauce Sweet baby rays is pretty damn good. Their Original and Honey BBQ sauces are very tasty.

Sam's Club makes great Apple Pies as well as their ready made rotisserie rack of pork ribs for 11 bucks. Also their ready made rotisserie chickens (under 6 bucks!) are a great value and taste great.

I really like Famous Dave's BBQ sauce.
I go to the restaurant only because of Devil's Spit and Wilbur's Revenge. Their ribs aren't really that great but those sauces are amazing. I think you can get Devil's Spit at the grocery store but not Wilbur's Revenge.

Blue Bell Homemade Vanilla Ice Cream. Though all their flavors are pretty damn good.

If you live in an area that has Blue Bell, you probably already know this. I am kind of bragging.

We don't have a Trader's Joe though - very jealous of those that do (or a Jungle Jim's - but that is only Cincy)

Lawry's Herb & Garlic Marinade--Great on chicken (Use like a finishing BBQ sauce) or marinating steaks

Olive Garden salad dressing :bag:

The costco rotisserie chicken for 5 bucks is awesome, I think a full batch comes off right before closing.

Main ingredient is HFCS, just like most of the stuff at the store. Stubb's is the way to go.

1. goya canned refried beans - black or pinto, with or without chorizo... these are imo a few orders of magnitude better than other canned brands. i went from buying other brands to making my own because mine were better to goya because goya is just that good.

2. general tip - don't turn your nose up a frozen veggies, especially in winter. they are picked in season and frozen soon after so they actually taste better than the fresh stuff shipped in from the southern hemisphere, while at a better price too.

I recently became obsessed with Annie's cheddar bunnies/graham crackers.

They are essentially high quality, natural, organic Goldfish in a variety of different delicious flavors (cheddar, white cheddar, honey, chocolate chip, cinnamon, etc.). It's hard not to eat a whole box of them once you open it. Perfect snack on the go or compliment to beer.

Organic fresh squeezed Orange Juice from Kroger.

Stopped in three weeks ago and saw it. I picked up a half gallon and was hooked. The oranges used have been consistently low acid and the flavor fantastic.

Amore widely available organic OJ is Natalie's. Slightly more acidic, but very good nonetheless.

Yup, frozen is the way to go. Fresh is picked prematurely so that its allowed to ripen during transit depriving it of a important period of nutrient buildup. Love me some organic frozen kale. Steam it together with some onions and a little Bacon. Hell yeah.

Costco also has a gallon of its organic kirkland brand for a good price
