Project-a-Guy - Alcides Escobar, SS KC (1 Viewer)

Notorious T.R.E.

Alcides was a major piece in the Greinke trade to Milwaukee. He had a pretty brutal 2010, but just one year earlier in AAA (and a taste of MLB) the guy stole 46 bases. By most accounts, shortstop is a wasteland and many will be scrambling late in the draft to fill out SS or MI spots. If you're looking for some not so negative things from 2010, Escobar did keep the Ks relatively low, striking out just 13.8% of the time. He also suffered from a poor BABIP of .264, down from .344 in '09 (combined).

For me, the upside is in the steals and the Royals will need a bunch of them.

2010:

552 PA, 4 HR, 41 RBI, 57 R, 10 SB, 235 AVG, 288 OBP

Bill James Projection:

529 PA, 5 HR, 46 RBI, 69 R, 20 SB, 272 AVG, 318 OBP

TRE Projection:

610 PA, 7 HR, 50 RBI, 73 R, 33 SB, 260 AVG, 320 OBP

DO IT

540 PAs

5 HRs

.264/.319/.360

98 R + RBI

22 SBs

Most interesting advanced stat is 14.2% infield fly balls in 2010. That's not effective use of his speed.

I'm hoping he can do something this year because I own him in dynasty. He really has no place to go but up, because he'll be out of the majors if he regresses any.

Millwaukee's old manager (forget his name) is notoriously conservative on the base paths, it's why I stayed away from Escobar last year. Either him or Cain are going to be $ this year in KC, it all depends who is leading off and running wild on the bases. I'm buying Alcides first because of his position, true toss up though imo.

Ironically, KC's new manager Ned Yost is Milwaukee's old manager. He's not as conservative on the base paths as Ken Macha but Yost's Brewer clubs were around league average in both SB and SB attempts.

Oh yeah. :unsure:Seems like everyone is giving him a decent AVG bump.
I think you have to give his minor league stats some credence and its probably safe to assume his BABIP is going to improve (although it's kind of hard to beat out a pop-up to the third baseman).

Boy did this guy's stock fall.

I don't know why he didn't run more last year. He should be able to crack 40 at some point.
:goodposting: ETA: What's Willie Wilson up to? Let's get him on this.
Waiting for Michael Brown to come in here and tell us we're all insane.
Nah not everyone just you.I like your numbers on AE. What kind of success ratio are you expecting on 22 SBs? Gotta figure that Royals lineup is going to need to run every chance they get to produce some runs, so I think he may attempt a bit more.

TRE do you wanna just set up a bunch of these and people can chime in on several? It can be like the Spotlight series in the Shark Pool, but without the name-calling.

Oh, there will be name calling. I'll maybe set them up a little more frequently, but I don't want to get too crazy with it.
