Pujols an Angel (1 Viewer)

Albert will be 32 in January. 10 years? Probably has three years left at his peak, then another three good but injury riddled years. Think 6-7 would have been more than enough.

Al least he can DH when he is 42.

That deal is insane for a player listed at 31 yoa but probably older and coming of his worst season (statistically speaking). Marlins and Cards win in this situation.

I'm sure the Angels would have loved to give Pujols a 6 or 7 year contract. They would have much preferred that, I'm sure.

Wow, guess it was all about the money.
The Angels are a great organization that's committed to winning and in a great market. So, that's a little unfair to say.Pujols went to an equally good situation, for better money, and in a city/state that very well might be more desirable for him (it would be for alot of people).I have no idea how anyone could find fault with that.

No reason to be bitter about it. I can't imagine any one of us passing on a deal like that.

:goodposting: :goodposting: :goodposting: :goodposting: :goodposting: The guy had a wild hair up his #### about the Cards organization mistreating him for sometime. Sorry they only paid you $104 million in your career, you #####.
What is it with this attitude that Pujols somehow owes something to STL?He brought 2 WS titles (after a 24 year drought) and was the best $104 mill. bargain in MLB history.Dude deserves a shot to live somewhere else and make more money in an equally good organization.I think a simple "Thank you, Mr. Pujols" would suffice.

He just went to the highest bidder. I won't hold it against him, but that's what happened.

wow. no wonder he left if Cards fans treated him like this.
Seriously? Dude was an idol in STL. Don't let sour grapes on the day of this signing somehow taint how well he was treated in his 11 years there. Like a king.

The Cards had their shot to renegotiate with Pujols and they admittedly dragged their feet. He owes the Cards nothing.

All of my Card fan friends heads just exploded.....all at once.

I'm glad he's out of the Central.

He was the best player in baseball, he's a nice guy and he helped the franchise win two championships. Why would he not be treated like a king? Is St Louis Ukraine under Stalin?

:goodposting:The guy was beloved in STL. But for some reason, he felt disrespected in the organization and wanted out, despite all the bullcrap he said otherwise ("I want to be a Cardinal for life" is a good example). What else did he want from us or the team?

Pretty sure most of them will come around to this position, if they're not already there. This is one guy on a message board 20 minutes after his deal with the Angels was announced.

Pujols already gave you one under market value deal. I don't think it would have taken 10 for 250 to get him to stay in the Lou, and it looks like he really debated this for some time.

Pujols - $25+ million

Wells - $21 million

Hunter - $18 million

Haren - $12.8 million

Weaver - $14 million

Total of almost 91 million bucks for 5 players next year. Can't say that LAAAAA won't spend some money.

Maybe he did, but if he felt that a $200 million contract from STL would hamper their ability to keep an elite team around him, he wouldn't be alone.I'd guess the vast majority of people felt that way.Not that it isn't about money because that's always a huge issue, but in this situation, it's clearly about winning too.

if a player wins my favorite team two titles and plays like the best player in the league while being underpaid the entire time, and then the franchise waits until the last possible second to try and keep him around, I think it's pretty shameful to call him a ##### when he agrees to accept a deal that none of us would ever be able to resist signing.

I am sure they would love to dump Wells and Hunter.

I think Ravech was on yesterday saying that St Louis is better off long-term without Pujols, I tend to agree. That is just too much money for a smaller market team, even with St Louis' regional following.

Possibly. I'm a Pujols fan regardless. That wasn't about to change unless he went to the Yanks.

I totally agree. If Pujols were 28-27 like Fielder the deal may have worked. Even then it was a big risk. I could not see the last four years working in the NL playing the field everyday into his 40s. At least he can DH in the AL.

I don't disagree with the sentiment, but are we really classifying all of the Cardinals fan base on Mr. Phoenix's post-signing meltdown? As for waiting until the last second, were you asleep for the past year? Albert cut off all negotiations in February when he reported for Spring Training. That was an "Albert thing" that the Cardinals respected.

:goodposting:In the end, you're right.Ooh, I see the Angels got CJ Wilson, too.
I understand the point, but there's no way the Cards are better off without Albert Pujols.
today no, tomorrow yes

I hold no ill will towards Pujols. It is a bummer to see him go, but that is too much money and many years to give to him. And at least he didn't go to the Yankees or the Cubs or to a scrub team like the Marlins.

Thanks for a great 11 years, Albert! You'll always be one of the greatest Cardinals ever.

???1997, 2003...

Despite what anyone says, I sympathize with Cardinals fans. Those fans are the big losers here despite the 2 WS championships Pujols helped bring to the city. It sucks when superstars leave like this. I actually root for the Cards as my NL team but I'd be saying this even if I was a Cubs fan. Hopefully, it works out for the best as he is no use to the Cards if he can't play the field.
