QB by Committee (1 Viewer)

Hello,

in many years/leagues past, I've really held off on drafting a QB in a 10 team league and grabbed 3 quarterbacks and played the match-ups. I've almost always ended up with a top 5 score from the QB position.

my strategy consists of the following requirements:

1. In a 10 team league, do not draft a QB till the 10th round or later

2. Make sure 1 of the QB's is a young guy with upside (ex, Bradford/Stafford)

3. Make sure 1 of the QB's is a veteran (ex Eli/Cutler)

4. Lend extra value to what appear to be easy schedules against the pass.

just wanted to get thoughts from anyone who has used a similar approach and if you see it being a potentially favorable strategy again this year when surveying the QB landscape. Thanks for any thoughts.

Honestly, I've tried this a handful of times throughout the years, and I don't think it's as viable as it looks on paper. In theory you can use this to replicate stud QB production but in practice I find it hard to believe it actually happens very often. You need to correctly guess which 2-3 late round QBs to grab (based largely on something so flimsy as preseason SOS), and then need to correctly guess which one to start each and every week. Once the season is over it's easy to cherry pick the QBs and starts to "prove" that it's a workable strategy, but that doesn't help when it's Week 5, you're 1-3, and trying to decide which one of your mediocre QBs to start.

to be clear, I'm not talking about cherry picking the starts at the end of the season to prove the strategy. This has actually worked for me many times based on actual scoring from the QB position.Usually what happens is I try to guess match ups (not always correctly) for the first half of the season and typically someone emerges and I end up starting them the bulk of the games down the stretch.

the reason I made this post is not to try and hype the strategy but to be brutally honest......I wonder if I have just been lucky with it and should just cash my chips while I'm ahead!! I'm certainly no better prognosticator than most. I don't believe I have a master eye for picking sleeper QB's.

sounds like for at least one person, it has not worked. Thanks for your feedback.

You will get a lot of negative responses in regards to QBBC, ive also read a couple articles lately that suggest that QBBC even when done perfectly is still lacking in comparison to an elite QB.

That being said, I do it every year, I feel the value from the skill position players you draft in the round where you skip a QB more than makes up for the difference. In regards to your strategy, Ive waited till the 10th before but doing so made me settle with someone I didnt particularly like, I suggest waiting till the 8th then take your 2nd in the 11th. Been targetting Eli Manning and Stafford/Bradford/Kolb although ive been able to get Schaub in the 8th round in a few leagues. I agree with the your Veteran/Young guy idea, although depending on how deep your benches are id suggest taking a 3rd best available QB.
