QB scoring. How many leagues have -points for INTS? (1 Viewer)

Interceptions, especially, are often not the QB's fault. I certainly don't want to lose 6 points every time my QB throws the ball exactly where it's supposed to go, but the receiver slips, runs the wrong route, has the ball bounce out of his hands into a defender, etc.
So should a QB also get credit for yardage he would have gotten if a receiver drops a ball? Of course a QB's INT are effected by the play of his teamates. So are a RB's yardage. A WR's catches. And every other play on a football field. What does this have to do with anything?
It has everything to do with everything. You are proposing that a quarterback should lose 6 points every time he throws an interception. I'm pointing out how ridiculous that is, considering that INT's are often not the fault of the quarterback. And again, even if they were always the fault of the QB, an interception is NOT the equivalent of a TD. QB's are notoriously undervalued in fantasy football as it is. Why make them moreso?
If you give QB's 6 points per touchdown the good one's aren't undervalued. If you take 6 points away for TO's then the Aaron Brooks's of the world are undervalued.... just as they should be.
Brett Favre just set the record for career INTs.
And TD's.???
Under your scoring system, caretaker QBs would be better plays than Favre. 1 TD and no INTs is equal to 3 TDs and 2 INTs. I disagree with that.
You think a guy that scores 3TDs and 2INTs typically has the same # of yards as a QB that has 1TD and 0 INT???????
You think the average guy that throws 5 INTs also has 300 yards and 2 TDs??????????????????And wins the game??????????????????
Fact: There is a significant and high correlation between PaYards and INTs. About as high as PaYards and TDs.To reward TDs and ignore INTs seems pretty silly.

Total minus points for Romo was 15 points monday nite
And what were his net points in your league monday night?
Total net was 10.0610pts 2tds passing

16.36pts 309 passing yards

0.07 7 rushing yards

minus 2pts 1 fumble

minus 15pts 5 ints
And do you think Romo won the game for DAL last night or DAL won the game for Romo last night? Did he have a net positive impact on the game for DAL? Could an average NFL QB have led DAL to a more convincing win in BUF than Romo led?BTW I just want to make the point I have no problem with Romo in particular, my problem is with scoring systems that can twist statistics so that Romo can get positive points based on a performance like the one he had last night. Aaron Brooks did it for years in NO and I hated it just as much then.
I understand your point...to me Folk won the game for Romo. But all leagues have set rules so there is not much anyone could say about the performance of Romo.

I'm still waiting for caretaker qb's that would be better than a guy like Favre. Can you think of any?
That's OK, I am still waiting for a response to my point about meaningless end of half and end of game INTs erasing valuable TDs.
Michael Turners stats in the fourth quarter of the DEN game. Meaningless stats occur often.... meaningless INT stats aren't any different. They do occur, they certainly aren't the norm. What's more they occur across the board for all QB's.I never said there weren't meaningless stats in fantasy football. You said caretaker QB's would be a better play under my rules. Defend what you said, that's all I'm asking.

I hate debating scoring systems, because they are all completely arbitrary, but I'll keep playing for a little while.

Let's assume for a moment that FF is serious business as opposed to a game, and let's also assume that scoring systems matter (i.e., one scoring system is inherently better than another). What would make one scoring system better than the next? In other words, what is fantasy football supposed to measure?

Agreed. Does anyone disagree with that? I certainly think a QB that avoids TOs should be more valuable than a QB that doesn't.I disagree that INT=TD. Which is BoltBacker's premise, if he chooses to admit it or not.

... and I really want to underscore the point I'm not attacking the perforance of Romo. I'm attacking the scoring system that allows Romo's performance last night to score positive points. It's the scoring system that bugs me.... not Romo.

Well, I'm fine with penalizing the QB. But, when you have to score other positions (e.g., RB, WR, etc), you'd pretty-much reduce the QB value with a -6 INT to less than is already the so absurdly diminished in your typical, run-of-the-mill FBG league. So, why not just ditch the position altogether? Or, find a way to reduce RB and WR scores as well?

I don't think that's true at all if you are giving QB's 6pt for TDs. The only thing is the really good QB's turn out to help you a lot. The bad QB's end up hurting you because there's a bigger divide between the bad QB's and the good QB's. Right now in most leagues Romo's performance didn't even hurt most people despite the fact it was putrid. Why bother drafting good QB's when bad ones aren't going to be penalized for bad performances?AGAIN: Romo is not a bad qb but that was DEFINITELY a BAD performance and shouldn't in any way be awarded by positive points.... especially double digit positive points.

I posted above that negative points for ints or fumbles is a much more accurate reflection of real-life football. By the same token though, is 60 yards or rushing or receiving equal to a TD in real-life? No way! Is a 57 yard field goal worth any more than a 25 yarder? Is the point of a scoring system to most accurately reflect what's actually happening on the field or is it just a framework to hang a game on?
