Question for Dallas Homers (1 Viewer)

Why didn't the Cowboys take advantage of the Seahawks secondary. You have 2 top starters out and a rookie playing along with a guy who was doing bank loans the previous Sunday. To boot that guy doing bank loans tried out for Dallas and was cut in training camp so they knew his weaknesses.

I just don't understand how guys like TO and Glenn, two of the best WRs in the game, could be held down to 6 catches combined.

What was the situation here? Was it a mistake by the Parcells led coaching staff, was it the WRs thinking this was going to be a cake walk? Enlighten me here, cause I don't get it.

I really don't get it, either. From watching the game, it seemed as if Seattle played a lot of zone and mixed their coverages well. Romo still has to learn to read defenses and take the underneath completion, instead of always looking to throw the ball 20-30 yards downfield. Both Owens and Glenn tend to lose a little focus when the ball does not come their way early and often, so that was probably a contributing factor, but I cannot let the Cowboy coaching staff off the hook, especially when a team like the Patriots sees a weak point in the Jets secondary, and continues to throw the ball to Jabar Gaffney, hardly a world beater, for numerous early completions.

I think it was a blend of Romo's inexperience and the 'Boys coaching staff, but mostly blame the Cowboys coaching staff. So what if they woulda thrown the ball 60 times. They coulda beat the Seahawks if they'd have taken advantage of the secondary.

I mentioned this in several other threads. I will say that Seattle did a good job of rolling the safeties deep. The problem I had was they did not attack the underneath stuff. The slants and out routes were there all day.

This should have loosened the deep coverage and they should have been able to play action to it.

This team's next Head Coach needs to be an Offensive Co-Ordinator.

I dont think the staff is convinced in Romo, me neither. I'll bet Dallas drafts a QB this year. Holmgren did a good job protecting his secondary in a variety of ways.

Romo=Plummer?

I am willing to bet that they give Romo a full Training camp+ a full year. This team has bigger holes at NT, O-line, WR, and CB.

Bankerguy I agree that NT is a big need but next to that I think an argument can be made that the biggest need is a pass rushing DE or LB.

Uh yeah.Ferguson is what 34? One injury there and our run D is swiss cheese.Who back's him up? Think about it.Also consider that we might be going back to the 4-3. The 3-4 has been a disaster in my opinion.I think NT/DT is a huge need.

Because Bill is an old fart and too damn stubborn to the point he won't change the offensive/defensive scheme to give his team the best chance to win.See N.O and way too many others to mention.

OL seems a huge need. I'm not too worried about WR and actually wish they'd just run with Crayton, Hurd, and Glenn not sure about TO. With Fasano and Witten at TE and MB3 and JJ their offense would otherwise be fine with Romo given a full offseason.

So give me atleast one high pick at OL unless a stud WR falls.

That leaves defense ... is Roy Williams going to move to LB? Is Anthony Henry moving from CB to safety? Atleast one DB with an emphasis on pass defense is a necessity.

Next up is a pass rush. Losing Ellis really hurt and next year could combine with Carpenter but I would still pursue another DL/LB pass specialist.

Another NT is viable but I think comes after the needs listed above.

I really like Justin Blalock.

Take into consideration that they had five drops by WR/TE/RB plus the two fumbles (Whitten and Glen). That does tend to slow your passing game down. Even if you don't like the fact they never tried to take them deep, the game plan put them into position to win the game. All they had to do was execute a play that has the highest percentatge of succes in the NFL, basicly an extra point. Then go and play a little Deffense.

Roy Williams is not going to play LB he is to small.Anthony Henry may move to safety but unlikelyCarpenter is going to move to ILB. If Bradie James doesnt figure out how to play zone or cover a RB or FB in the flats it will be sooner than later. TO was the vocal point of the #2 scoring offense in the entire league. The Cowboys would have huge problems without TO. Without TO they would be left with Crayton, Hurd, Austin and Glenn. Glenn has not proven to be the most durable WR, so either draft an elite WR or stick with TO.
