Question For Mets Fans (1 Viewer)

Growing up in the 1980's I watched a whole bunch of games on the TBS and WGN Superstations.

At the games at Shea it seemed that every 90 seconds or so the broadcast would be stalled by the sound of a low flying jet approaching La Guardia. (the screen would shake with the reverberations). I remember Harry Caray completely losing his train of thought whenever a jet crossed over.

But then suddenly, all the noise stopped, and it was never an issue.

Was there some official law that diverted the planes during baseball games? Or did the airlines schedule differently?

harry caray lost his train of thought thousands of times in other stadiums as well...hth
The story I remember most about Harry was during a game against the Mets at Shea, and how he was shocked that he had to pay seven dollars for a bagel and lox at a NY deli.He must have spent three innings bemoaning the price. But what made it funny in a non-PC way was how he said to Steve Stone: "Wait, you're Jewish. You eat this stuff. How does a piece of bread cost seven dollars?"Gold.

IIRC the way it used to work was that there were about 3 approaches to LGA and only one went over Shea. Depending on the wind, sometimes the planes went elsewhere. I don't know if that is still how it is.

Planes still go over Citi field and did over Shea but it seems like less then in the 80s. Of course this is about as unscientific as it comes and have no support for this.
