Question for Phillies fans and Mariners fans (1 Viewer)

On Dec. 6, the Braves traded Horacio Ramirez to the Mariners for Rafael Soriano.

On Dec. 8, the Phillies traded Gavin Floyd to the White Sox for Freddy Garcia.

I don't want to debate who made the better deal.

But from Phillies fans, do you wonder why Floyd for Soriano wasn't considered?

And for Mariners fans, would you rather have Floyd than Ramirez?

Honestly, I don't know what Gavin Floyd is going to bring to the table long-term. But the Phillies had a glaring hole in their bullpen and chose to trade a commodity for another starter. Now, they're stuck with 6 starters and a lousy bullpen. If Charlie Manuel gets fired and Pat Gillick doesn't, I'm making a big stink of this fact if I'm Manuel.

I don't think anyone would rather have Floyd than anything.

If Garcia is healthy and the same guy that we have seen be very good in the past, then I still think it was a good move for the Phillies. I am not sold on Lieber this year. I also think that Gillick was trying to position himself to unload Lieber for a reliever (the SD deal got the most pub), but in the end couldn't get the right deal done.

If Garcia was damaged goods before getting here, then it probably was a bad move.

Also, as FairWarning pointed out, who knows if Seattle wanted Floyd. At least Ramirez had shown that he could be decent on the major-league level.
