Question for Vikings Watchers (1 Viewer)

Is Percy Harvin only on the field in 3-receiver setups? Is he ever on the field when only 2 WRs are present? In other words, does he ever cut into Sydney Rice's playing time? I am trying to get a feel of the guys value, but haven't been able to watch any Vikings games to really know. Can anyone help? THANKS!!!

From what I've seen the Purple are making a real effort to get Harvin the ball and Favre seems to trust him, but I haven't seen him in two WR sets. Sidney Rice has been getting numerous shots down field and they are looking for him when they get in the red zone.

I don't think Rice is getting 'numerous shots' downfield, as I think Favre has only thrown like 2 passes over 10 yards or so it seems. He does seem to trust Rice though on the intermediate stuff. It sure looks as though Harvin is his favorite receiver for bubble screens and other quick routes. Harvin has made some people miss in both games after the catch. But, i have not seen him in there on 2 receiver sets either. Even though Berrian didn't get many looks in game 1, it was he and Rice as the base 2 WR sets.

Harvin is mostly on the field in 3WR sets, but the thing to consider is that he's proven to be a favorite target of Favre's, they are sticking with the WCO short, high percentage throws and hoping for Y.A.C. so Harvin's still going to to get a lot of looks. Maybe as Favre evolves with the offense he'll open it up and pass more downfield (Berrian had six catches last week with low yardage, however,) but for now the Vikings seem content to stick with playing it slow and steady.

harvins 2 tds have come on the same exact play .... a bubble screen inside the 5 and let him work with the ball. Otherwise they have had him all over the field but never in a true Flanker or split end position.

Thanks guys... I appreciate your insight. I reached for him in my league (return yardage counts) and I am trying to decide whether to keep him (for higher upside) or trade him (sell high) at this point. It is good to know that he is getting a lot of opportunities, but it kind of sucks that he is not getting on the field for base two WR sets. That limits his upside a bit.

In week one, he was in on 23 snaps. 16 were 3WR, 4 were 2WR, 1 was 1WR and 2 snaps as tailback.

On the field for 15 of 26 pass plays.
