Quick: Name the top 5 teams in offense this preseason. (1 Viewer)

Weapon of Mass Instruction

Watch my feet!
Yep, the Tennessee Titans. Link here -- as measured by total yards per game -- moving the football.

An article at Titansradio.com surprised me, too. Now, there is a big difference between moving the ball and scoring points. However, despite their issues -- they have moved the ball...and more on the ground that in the air. But that is what they want. Time of possession and defense will be their M.O. once again.

I rewatched the first half of Friday's preseason game vs. ATL because I watched it live at a family function and couldn't follow it very closely. My impression had been that VY looked off...again. Well, after rewatching it...I don't think so.

Gage drops (frankly, I think he caught it and fumbled) a 25 yarder right on the money. Gage quits running the route on the INT. Gage loses the ball on what would have been a great over the top pass for a catch in the end zone for about 25 yards. McCairens drops one after slipping.

Yep, VY had a couple of bad passes, too but who doesn't?

I guess this is what I'm saying:

-- Once again, VY has no WR to work with. No, he isn't Brady and never will be. But...Brady wouldn't be Brady either with these bozos.

-- Lendale, CJ, Crumpler, and Scaife will have to carry the load.

-- We need 2 WR to step up. Gage had been that guy but he just had the worst game of his life.

-- I had thought the WR would be better...but no.

-- The best looking WR on the team is rookie Lavelle Hawkings out of Cal. But...he hurt his ankle in the 2nd preseason game and hasn't played again yet. I say by halfway he'll be the #1 WR -- similar in style to Derrick Mason.

The brass insists that they haven't shown anything. That they have a ton in the bag. I hope so.

I'm not worried about the ground game AT ALL. It will absolutely be there...but not if 8 are in the box every play.

Thanks for posting this. I suspected the Titans offense was superior to the Patriots and Colts and now this proves it.

While I agree they have moved the ball well...VY has looked bad.The INT...don't put that on Gage...it was a terrible pass and decision as he was getting rushed.

and Im a VY apologist usually.

He has looked ok...but not great at all.

Have you watched any of the pre-season... the Tenn 1st Team looks terrible. If you thought VY was a disappointment last yr... wait until this yr.

Alright, you guys missed the point I was trying to make. I am NOT trying to say that they are one of the top 3 or 5 offenses. Obviously they are not and will not be. My point is that, comparitively, in the 3 game preseason so far their offense has actually moved the ball as well as anyone else and, frankly, better than most.

I'm just saying it isn't as "bad" as it appears to be.

I believe that the run game will be very good.

I also believe that the woes in the passing game are more a result of poor WR play than VY's play. VY had 2 poor passes Friday night -- the rest of them were good and should have resulted in a TD and several more receptions for quite a few more yards.

I'm just sayin'.

What difference does it make whether it was poor WR or poor QB play? Last time I checked you need both to complete a pass...

i figured what Carolina just did to WAS would vault them into top 5 even if they were last coming in

Be warned; Hawkins does have decent size and speed and runs good routes, but he has suspect hands.

Vince/Lendale/Johnson is going to look an awful lot like Vick/Dunn/Duckett at their peak.
:whistle:Lendale/Johnson >>> Dunn/Duckett (both parts of the equation..that is White>Ducket and Johnson>Dunn). Plus, as bad as the WRs on Atlanta were, the Titans passing game could asctually be more anemic than the Falcon's were. I think the Titans run more (with their RBs) than Atlanta did - and yes, I realize Atlanta was near the top in rushing offense.

Top 5 preseason offenses from 2007 and 2006 with their eventual regular season finish:

2007

Arizona: 12

Jacksonville: 7

San Diego: 20

Detroit: 19

Tennessee: 21

2006

Dallas: 5

New England: 11

Denver: 21

Cincinnati: 8

Atlanta: 12

Not really all that great of a correlation from preseason to regular season team stats. And the fact that Tennessee was also in the top 5 last preseason and finished 21st really doesn't do a whole lot to convince me that their regular season offense will be all that impressive this year either.

While I agree that Lendale is way better than Duckett, and I think Vick ran more than Young will...you can't be serious putting Johnson (an NFL Rookie who is not even a starter) ahead of Warrick Dunn at his peak. That's just nuts. Maybe Chris will get there someday, but not as RB2 in his rookie season.

And Crumpler is in Tenn as well now. Deja Vu. Here's hopin' Lendale plays well this year. I picked him up on the cheap in an auction draft.

I'll give you White over Duckett, but Johnson has a LOT to prove before being put in the same company as Dunn. At this point, he's not even close.

So you are saying he's Clifford Franklin, from The Replacements?
