Quickest Conversion of a NFL player with fantasy relevance.... (1 Viewer)

Who has made the quickest conversion after changing their playing position?

The most favourable conversion seems to be a QB that gets moved into a WR role. Guys like H. Ward, D. Bennett, and Randel El. I don't think fullback to tailback is a conversion; I think those 2 positions are 2 similiar.

Who has been the best at making the transition to a new position? Will Matt Jones be the quickest guy to do it?

H. Ward had a slower transition. He did not reall break out until his 4th year in the league where he finally reached the 1000 yard mark and had 4 TD's. Ward did have a decent year in year 2 where he caught 61 balls for 638 yards and 7 td's. Not great but better than average.

D. Bennett hit 1247 yards in his 4th year as well as having 11 td's after being well below average his first 3 years in the league.

M. Jones in year one had 36 receptions for 432 yards and 5 TD's in comparison to Ward who had 15 catches for 246 yards and 0 tds vs Bennett who had 24 catches for 329 yards and 1 td.

It seems as if M. Jones is poised to be one of the quickest ever conversions. Are there guys I am missing?

I can't think of other guys that you are missing.

I do agree that Matt Jones is poised to have a potential break out season though. None of the other guys you mentioned possess anywhere near the combination of size, athletic ability and flat out speed that Matt Jones does.

I am very high on Matt Jones in terms of potential. I honestly have had a very hard time projecting numbers for him. I am thinking he ends up with 65 catches for 900 yards and 12 touchdowns. What are others thinking?

was awhile ago but Bert Emanuel played QB at Rice, and transitioned to WR.

| 1994 atl | 16 | 2 4 2.0 0 | 46 649 14.1 4 |

| 1995 atl | 16 | 1 0 0.0 0 | 74 1039 14.0 5 |

Not a bad second year.

Good call on Bert Emannuel. I should have remembered him.

He could have been the fastest QB in college football history and was certainly the fastest player Rice ever had.

Drew Pearson, probably before some of your time, was a college QB at University of Tulsa. He was a very good WR.

I also happen to think Hines Ward has done a very good job transitioning to WR from QB. Brad Smith seems to be doing well, too.

Jerry Porter played QB fulltime in HS.

Then in College was a jack of all trades, playing some QB, some WR and a lot of DB.

Don't know if he fits your profile or if we can say that he's really broken out. He keeps just missing the 1,000 yard mark these last couple of seasons.

Count it for sure.

Nice! Not before my time, but I didn't know he was a QB. Good job on the old school trivia.

Matt Jones is the white Randy Moss str8 up....he will have Jimmy Smith Numbers with more Touchdowns....he was studying mad Randy Moss film and Del Rio wanted him to mimic Mr Moss....Matt Jones and Lee Evans are gonna bust out hard this year dude...

Pearson, was a QB some in college then converted to flanker late in college career. Interesting fact: Pearson began his football career at South River High School where he succeeded Joe Theismann as quarterbackAlso, oddly enough for a small school, they have had some big football names come through: Glenn Dobbs, Rhome, Twilley, Largent, Frerotte, and a few others plus only school that I know of that graduated two African American players that went on to become NFL head coaches: Ray Rhodes and Lovie Smith

I think Matt Jones is a very solid option as your #2 WR with excellent #1 potential as well. The guy is just a straight up beast, and he catches all the touchdowns.

I can easily imagine him going for 1,200/10 this year.

Power Forward at Kent University to the most dominant TE in the game today count??

Please tell me this is shtick.

In a way, Troy Brown's seemingly overnight conversion into a serviceable nickel back in 2004 might be at least as amazing as any of the examples already mentioned on this thread.

Wow, never thought I'd see my high school mentioned in this forum. I grew up and still live in South River. And though it was before my time, I understand from my neighbors that Joe's name was pronounced "Theesman" when he was here. :)He was doing a Sunday night game once on ESPN and he said "Back in my high school days in New Brunswick, NJ..." and I wanted to punch the TV. Theismann is a traitor to his small-town roots!/hijack

True. Before Jones can mimic Randy Moss, Lefty has to mimic a QB that throws TD passes.

Randle El went from college QB to dominant KR/PR.

Not such a great WR, but not terrible.

Matt Jones is a specimen, by the way. Maybe the most phyically gifted player to ever play WR based on his measurables.

6'6, 250 LBS runs a sub 4.4 40.

Ronald Curry went from QB to WR and did pretty well once he climbed up the depth chart.

Wasn't Jim Kelly was a LB before a QB?

:hot: Like who? Your boy Brooks? :lmao: Nothing personal Mojo, but I just cant see how Lefty ISNT an elite NFL QB. I also refuse to believe people actually speak like OsWizzle. :loco:

I love Leftwich. One of my favorite players. He just doesnt look like a guy primed to throw more than 20 TD passes soon. That windup and delivery still looks like a rubber band propellered toy airplane. Doesnt mean he isnt one helluva team leader. I'd rather have that, just not on my FF team.

To keep him on the field every play I'd play Reggie Bush at WR. Pretty much every analyst when pondering the point has said that he would have gone in Round 1 of the NFL draft as a WR. When McCallister cycles out of the game, move Bush to tailback. I'm sure Bush will actually play a lot of WR anyways this year, ala, you know how the Eagles start Westbrook in the backfield and then split him out wide. But, I'd honestly put Bush with Joe Horn at WR when the Saints go with a TE, FB, and RB. I think that would have a lot of safeties taking a couple steps out of the box and crapping their britches.

I hope you're right because I drafted both of those guys in ALL of my money leagues.

Matt Jones is nice. Dont get carried away on 12TDs. JIMMYSMITH was not scoring that and he is one of the most natural strong, fluid receivers i've seen. Matt Jones is giong to have safeties hanging on him, defenses know he is going to try to go over the top so he has to establish teh underneath game adequately.
