In a move that’s unlikely to curry favor with owner Al Davis, Raiders coach Lane Kiffin has called Tim Kawakami of the San Jose Mercury News to apologize for the conduct on Monday of John “Get Your F–king Hand Off Me” Herrera, who among other things told Kawakami to get his f–king hand off Herrera during one of the all-time classic NFL off-field videos.“We were trying to have a professional news conference, I think,” Kiffin told Kawakami. No other member of the organization has contacted Kawakami. We also think that someone from the organization should be apologizing to Mike Silver of Yahoo! Sports, whom Herrera accused of being Kawakami’s “smoke pot . . . smokin’ buddy” during the tirade.Reached for comment about Herrera’s decision to direct venom at Silver, who wasn’t even at the press conference, Silver told us via e-mail, “I stand by the column that provoked this ridiculous response.”
